The first floor has two comfortable bedrooms with log walls, a wonderful log lined bathroom and a partial log sitting room with a Franklin fireplace. The second floor features a fantastic kitchen, breakfast/game area, larger dining area, half bath, library, and a living room/tv area. About Jim Smart
Hi, we are Jim and Cindie and we are both business owners and have lived in Minneapolis most of our 46 years of marriage. We are heavily involved in our community and belong to many non-profit boards of directors. Jim is an architectural designer and owns a business that designs retail stores and restaurants all over the world. Cindie owns a complex litigation support firm and she too is involved in work all over the world. These businesses have given us an opportunity to travel the world for both work and pleasure, and we love travel! Our one and only child, Casey is an up and coming chef in New York City and is currently the Executive Chef at a really wonderful restaurant in the Flatiron District. Jim, who is a very good cook in his own right, likes to think that she acquired her skills from him, but the truth is he is learning lots more from her! Our Minneapolis home in the beautiful Kenwood neighborhood is very well situated for a great urban stay. We are close to our beloved biking and walking trails, (right out our back gate,) and our wonderful lakes! We're a nice 45 minute walk to downtown and about twenty minutes from the Uptown area with many restaurants and movie theaters as well as live theaters. Our home in the Catskill Mountains of Upstate New York is about as opposite as we could get! Nestled into the northern Catskills The Chalet is very secluded and surrounded by beautiful trees. There is also a wonderful rushing mountain stream that we call Casey Creek! The house is very unique in its design and construction and has many wonderful features such as a soaring vaulted ceiling of Douglas Fir logs and a great kitchen! While our home in Minneapolis has been featured in numerous design magazines, our home in the Catskills hasn't YET! (Stay tuned!)
Why Jim Smart chose Bloomville
Our Catskills Chalet is truly unique. It is a two story chalet style post and beam house built with a combination of conventional construction along with some of the most amazing logs you've ever seen! Some are 24" in diameter that soar into the vault of the room. On the first floor entering the house, there is a sitting room with a Franklin wood stove. Just off this room are the two bedrooms and the main bathroom which also features log walls (including right in the shower!) Both bedrooms also have log walls with beautiful wood plank ceilings and floors. Up the slate and cherry wood stairway you enter the living quarters of the house with a wonderful and very well equipped kitchen -- our daughter is a chef, so we have everything, including a Robot Coupe and a Sous Vide! The kitchen counter separates the breakfast table, which is actually a poker table that was once owned by Al Capone and came from one of his "hideouts" in Northern Wisconsin. The door to the outside covered porch separates the table area from the living room. The living room is very comfy with a corduroy sofa and a beautiful Stickley wood wing back upholstered chair and ottoman. Also a nice wooden rocker and a juror's chair. There is a flat screen TV and we have a wide selection of movie DVDs as well as an HTML cable to connect your computer for Netflix, etc... The adjoining library features many wonderful books, games, puzzles, movie DVDs, and loads of CDs from most genres. Around the bend from the library is the dining area where we have a table that will seat 8 to 10. Next to the dining area is what we call the study cove. It's just a nice corner of the house with some jurors' chairs, a secretary that stores our glassware, and a china cabinet. This is a fun cozy area because the chairs are in front of some stained glass windows. Next, on your way back to the kitchen is a half bath. Keep reading in Unique benefits section....
What makes this Chalet unique
You may have noticed that this route seems to be circular. It is! All of these rooms are open and wrapped around an open "atrium" in the center that houses the stairway and a view into the lower entry/sitting room. It is also something of an art gallery featuring a couple of beautiful paintings by Cornealious Zwaan, a Dutch/American painter from the turn of the 20th Century. As you look at the photos, you'll notice a funny looking structure in the back of our home. We call it the Hobbit Hut. It's actually an entry room into our basement. Look to the right of the Hut and you'll see some beautiful windows, so you can tell this isn't just a "normal" basement. The room with the windows actually features a very nice slate pool table which you are free to use. However, our work on this wonderful quirky house has not yet included the lower floor so, if you don't mind the unfinishedness of it, have at it! Interaction with Guests If the Chalet is for rent on VRBO, then we are probably at our permanent home in Minneapolis, Minnesota. We are always available by phone or email, and we do have representatives in the immediate area who are available to help with most any issues or questions that may arise.

Peaceful mountain retreat
We had the most amazing time at this beautiful mountain chalet! It is about a 4 hour drive from Brooklyn NY. My fiancé and I needed a break from city life and this was the perfect setting. Very quiet and peaceful area set among local farms, mountains and forests. Upon the owner's recommendation, we stoped at Adams Farms in Kingston to pack up groceries for 4 days and enjoyed the rest of the scenic route to the chalet. The house is decorated beautifully without feeling intimidating. Every piece of furniture and artwork has been selected thoughtfully and tastefully. The house is spacious yet cozy. Everything you need is there including a fantastic open kitchen to cook in. We look forward to visiting again and again and getting to know the area more. Highly recommend this property. The owners are fantastic. They respond to all of your questions and are very helpful!
Thank you so much Patricia! We are so happy that you enjoyed your get away at the Chalet!
Our daughter lived for years in Little Italy and our drive from there took about 3 hours, but I've been known to exceed the speed limit a little, I guess.....
We look forward to your next visit!

We are seniors that found each other and started a new life! What a perfect honeymoon cottage! You can see the owners love their home. Every detail is perfect! We highly recommend this wonderful hideaway!
CONGRATULATIONS YOU TWO!! We are so happy you chose our Chalet to celebrate! We send our very best wishes for many wonderful years together!
Delightful, Romantic Getaway
This chalet is the coolest. Very charming, totally comfortable and surrounded by the beautiful Catskills. If you want the perfect place to really get away - private, but not remote - this is it.
It's kind of laid out "upside down", in that the bedrooms are on the 1st floor and the main living space upstairs, but one look out the stained glass windows at the magnificent view and you say, "Of course!". Perfect. And it is.
The whole place is wonderfully decorated and the kitchen is totally set up. We grilled on the gas grill outside on the upper deck, steps away from the kitchen. Sweet.
The game room is through a separate entrance you get to from outside. It adds to the overall charm and rustic feel of this "cabin". Just bring a flashlight. Night time is pretty dark way out in the country!
It got chilly while we were there, but between the wood stove and the boiler, we were toasty. Plenty of blanket, too.
The hiking around is fantastic and you just have to visit nearby Hobart, the "Used Book Capital of the Catskills". Lots of fun.
We also played about a gagillion games of pool in the game room on the lower level.
Truly, ya gotta check this one out! Just don't book it for the weekends when we'll want to come back. ;-)
Amazing vacation retreat
We (a couple + 1 dog) had a wonderful stay at Jim's chalet. The house itself is incredibly unique, clean, and full of character. The kitchen is by far the best-stocked I've seen at a rental, and probably better than our own! Same for the living room in terms of books, games, music, and movies (and cool photographs!).
There is plenty of space to relax both inside and outdoor, especially the 2nd floor covered deck with a gas grill. The well-maintained area around the house is perfect for building a fire, playing bocce, or just relaxing. And the surrounding forest is fun for exploring, including the nearby stream.
Getting to the house was pretty straight-forward and a very nice drive with the leaves changing. It's convenient to grocery stores and some good places to grab a bite to eat.
Overall, highly recommended!
Peaceful, Beautiful, Quiet
We spent 5 nights in the Chalet. We couldn't have been happier with it. It's beautiful inside and out. There was no breeze when we arrived and I was surprised at how absolutely silent it was. Very private, gorgeous surroundings, an excellent place to take a break from your "real life". Great kitchen, stocked with spices and condiments. The owners are nice people who really care that you enjoy your stay and they are available for any questions you may have. Lots of woods to walk around in. It was perfect.
Thank you so much Dewey! You were the perfect guests too! Our housekeeper told us that the place was in perfect condition!!! Please be thinking about your return trip! Surely there must be a "rubber match" due on the pool table!!

Amazing Dream Chalet
Me and my husband stayed here earlier this month for our wedding. We spend a week at this magical home. Words won't do it justice. From the moment you arrive, the Chalet is nestled in a private and quiet area. The design and architecture of the chalet itself is impressive and so special. Then each room and nook in the chalet has everything you could possibly need and you can tell so much thought went into everything in this home. We had a few of our friend's over everyone was amazed by the chalet the minute they walked in. We watched a few movies, listened to a few CDs from Jim's collection while we lit up the wood stove on the rainy days and hiked down to the stream when the sun came out. The kitchen has everything you need and more if you like to cook too. We are already planning on coming back on our anniversary next year! Just FYI, we didn't have cell service but the landline inside worked just fine. Jim was great and replied to any questions we had immediately . We can't wait to stay here again.
THANK YOU SOOO MUCH WENDY!!!
