The Malatesta is the territory that extends along the course of the two main rivers in the province of Rimini, where you will find many medieval belonging to the Malatesta.

Santarcangelo di Romagna: The heart of the old village is perched on a soft hill called Colle Jupiter here is still very recognizable the typical structure of the medieval fortified village. The Middle Ages left an indelible mark in the high lands of the old town, dominated by the solid Rock, strategic bulwark on the plain around. From the twelfth century there were fortifications around the village. The Malatesta's Landlord, who ruled the country as early as the thirteenth century, made the castle even bigger and richer.

Montebello and Torriana: On some rocks typical rock of Valmarecchia, that in times of invasions and hostilities represented a good natural defense, we distinguish the profiles of Torriana and Montebello. Two impregnable strongholds that have seen the glory of the Malatesta and fierce battles with the castles and the troops of Montefeltro. Two villages that over the centuries have had different fates: Torriana was amended and became the capital city, the village of Montebello has remained virtually unchanged and his silence, which lasted for centuries, is now his fortune having been preserved as a true island story and culture. So much history, but not only, there are also mysterious legends and there is a natural environment particularly rich and important.

Verucchio:Who, starting from the plain up the valley of the Marecchia see, a short distance from the sea, high rocky cliffs that overlook the river. The first of these, in a privileged and spectacular to be able to shift its gaze on the entire Adriatic coast and the foothills of the Apennines, is Verucchio. Higher than all is the imposing fortress overlooking the village chosen by the Malatesta family as a place of origin of the family. A capital Malatesta therefore (traditionally Verucchio is called the “Cradle of Malatesta”), but that has a history of more than thousands of years old, the story of a refined population today told in a museum where you can admire exhibits of extraordinary beauty, unique in Italy. Between the ninth and seventh centuries BC, a people living in Verucchio evolved, it is of Etruscan origin, that testimony of art and culture incredibly refined. This is called Villanova civilization (but it would be more correct to say Verucchiese – Villanova), which after numerous excavations, we can now know through rare fabrics, wooden objects, bronzes, ceramics, precious jewels of gold and amber, weapons and tools of everyday life. Virtually unique, great throne inlaid wood that was found.

San Leo: Previously known as Montefeltro, is located 583 meters sm, Val Malrecchia (SS 258), on a huge boulder around impassable, is accessed by a single road cut into the rock. On the highest point of the spur rises the impregnable Fort, rebuilt by Francesco di Giorgio Martini, in the fifteenth century, by order of Federico III da Montefeltro. The ancient city that was the capital (from the origin to the end) of the county of Montefeltro and the scene of battles civil and military for nearly two millennia, with Berengar II assumed the title of Capital of Italy (962-964). The city hosted Dante (“It goes on in San Leo …”) and S. Francis of Assisi, who received the gift of the mountain of La Verna from Count Orlando of Chiusi in Casentino (1213). It still has the room where the interview took place between the two men. In the fort, turned into a prison during the papal rule, were held at the Count of Cagliostro, who died in 1795, and Felice Orsini (1844).

Repubblica of San Marino:Runs the year 257 A.D. when the emperor Diocletian issued an edict for the rebuilding of the walls of Rimini, destroyed by Demonstene, king of Liburni. Among the stone cutters and engravers called from all over Europe, two came from Dalmatia (exactly from the island of Rab, a former colony of Roman origin), are destined to remain in the memory of many: Marino and Leo. ….. so begins the legend that tells of the creation deille resort San Marino and San Leo …. And ‘certain that the area was inhabited since prehistoric times, but it was not until the Middle Ages that we have no certain information on the existence of an organized community. Whatever the truth, the legend is certainly an expression of the strong desire for independence of the inhabitants of Mount Titano and seals the evocative image of “ancient land of freedom.”
