Recently refurbished historical residence in Chateau d'Oex - La Soldanelle. The apartment is just 400m from the town centre in a quiet, sunny, elevated position, in a quiet cul-de-sac, south facing, with views over the town. The property has a balcony where one can enjoy spectacular panoramic views of the alpine scenery in both summer and winter. Chateaux doex provides year round fun with numerous activities for all. The town has a large co op supermarket with a good range to select from, plus a couple of lovely local bakeries. There are several good restaurants in the town, La Gare which offers steaks on a stone, La Poste, another restaurant serving good local foods and The Bear which also has a great menu.

2 hour train ride from Geneva and 2.5 hour train ride from Basel.

A Superb ski region with 250 km pistes, 66 lifts/cable ways and nurseries. Nearest piste with cable car 10 mins walk, ski school 400m. Glacier 3000 40 minute drive usually open for skiing Nov to June. Other slopes within 15 minutes driving distance.

The 32nd International Balloon Festival will take place in Chateau-d'Oex from the 23rd to the 31st January 2010. With its exceptional microclimate the alpine capital will welcome around 80 balloons from over 20 countries.

Brief overview of Chateau-d'Oex: In both summer and winter Chateau-d'Oex presents a diverse range of holiday experiences and sporting activities. The wonderful mountain scenery and old decorated chalets are typical in this area of Switzerland.Situated at around 1000 metres in altitude, a charming picturesque village situated in-between the resort of Gstaad in the Bernese Oberland and the small town of Gruyères in Fribourg. The holiday region of Pays-d'Enhaut in the region of Vaud is linked to the Lake Geneva region by the Col des Mosses and by the Montreux – Bernese Oberland Railway.

Hot Air Balooning Festival: Thanks to its favourable micro-climate, Château-d'Oex has developed into a hot-air ballooning metropolis and in January the hot air ballooning festival is held where balloonists from around the world convene to participate in week-long competitions. Passenger flights are available throughout the year.

Summer Activities: A beautiful pre-Alpine walking area lies south of Château-d'Oex: La Pierreuse, the largest nature conservation area in western Switzerland contains rock areas, forests, abundant flora and flat moors. For both leading bikers and amateurs, the Pays-d'Enhaut offers a large network of marked mountain biking trails along the tracks of the 1997 world championships. You can indulge in white-water sports on the fast-flowing river Saane: canyoning, hydrospeed, canoeing /kayaking and river rafting. One of Switzerland’s most beautiful river rafting routes lies between the wild Vanel and Gérignoz gorges.

My favorite apartment in Chateau doex

We have been visiting chateau doex for over 12 years now and stayed in various apartments. This one is our favorite so far we have stayed 3 times now its in a peaceful location. Its very clean light and airy a good size and all the rooms are nice. Lots of room for all to sit. It is well furnished and very tastefully decorated. Just 10 mins walk to the town a large co op there and several good restaurants. Perfect location if you like the mountains for skiing or walking. Nice spacious alfresco dining area on the balcony with great mountain views and also great for drinks We like to stay in and cook in the evenings and there is something about this apartment that is so relaxing it makes you want to stay in. It has good facilities Wifi, lots of tv channels and the building has a good pool and steam/sauna. The kitchen is well positioned and has ample plates, cutlery, pots and pans. The lounge area has nice comfortable sofas and arm chairs.

very beautiful and comfortable apartment and clean room ,kitchen,bathroom every things was beautiful and wonderfull view from balcony, all restaurant and train station supermarket in less than 1 km ,quite place , fantastic swimming pool in the building

i have been in the same apartment last yaer and i come again to the same apartment and i like to come to this apartment every year

Chateau d'Oex is in many ways the quintessential Swiss alpine resort. Nestled on the South side of a valley amongst the French speaking Alps. The town is the picture of a quaint ski village. To the west is the famous cheese making town of Gruyere and approx 15 minutes drive to the east the glamorous town of Gstaad.

Chateau d'Oex has a vast array of activities year round. Skiing and snowboarding are the most popular activities here, with plenty of trails for both novice and the advanced skier.

Perhaps the most exciting time to visit this resort is towards the end of January when the international hot air balloon festival is held. This is truly a breath-taking sight from the top of the slopes across the valley as hundreds of balloons decorate the sky.

With options year round and plenty of them at that Chateau d'Oex makes an ideal vacation anytime of the year. Car is recommended although not essential

Golf: Within 1hours drive from Chateau d’Oex, there are 4 golf courses, at Saanenmoser, Villars, Lake Gruyere, and Aigle. The nearest, 20 minutes away, and arguably one of the most spectacular Alpine courses, is Golf Club Gstaad Saanenland, a stunning 18 hole course, (par 70, 5305 metres) at an altitude of 1400 metres, and is open from June to October, after the snow has receded. The driving range has a view to die for! In early summer the fairways weave between protected orchids in a nature reserve and alpine meadow flowers and pine woods. Golf de la Gruyere (par 68, 5058 metres) has views over the lake and to the mountains beyond. Montreux Golf Course at Aigle (par 72, 5828 metres), is flatter and easier on the legs. The green fees vary between £30 and £50, depending on the day you play.

Ski: Chateau d'Oex is part of the Glacier-Alpes Vaudoises Ski area and has direct access to 50km of downhill skiing with 22 individual pistes, served by 10 ski lifts.

Thanks to the Videmanette cable way, Rougemont has a direct connection to the ski area of Gstaad. In winter, the railway also brings winter sports enthusiasts to the nearby ski areas of Schönried and Saanenmöser. The high plateau of Les Mosses – La Lécherette is very popular with cross-country skiers. 35 km of trails lead through snow-covered fields and forests. Further activities and facilities include snow-shoe treks, toboggan runs and winter walking trails.
