About Laurel Casey
Performance artist, writer, painter, jazz singer, - Yes. A person without a pension.. which is why I love guests at "Camp Casey" -- I didn't think I was cut out for landlady status but I have met the coolest people when I am in town, and they return again and again, almost like an extended family. You can't get more Vermont than this. People have been known to leave the rent in the cookie jar if they stay an extra day.
Laurel Casey purchased this Cottage in 1967
Why Laurel Casey chose Bridport
This cottage is perfect for loners, people who want time to themselves to think clearly and get to know somebody REALLY WELL! Take the canoe out and drift and watch the stars. Difficult to really see the stars in this busy world. But with no street lights in Bridport, it's not a problem! I've installed outdoor lighting and people come and turn them off~! The darker the better!? Wth a full kitchen and a grill on the deck, you can eat well and sleep well and recharge. Long wonderful walks on the lake front itself .. beach combing ( fossils) fishing, late night bomb fires, no need to behave- nobody will hear you-- And close to Middlebury, 20 minute drive, if you want some non-wild nightlife.
What makes this Cottage unique
I'd have to say the ambiance. You don't find this kind of Parisienne artist's studio feel very often. People arrive and they immediately want to create. They ask for paints, a canvas, they start writing poetry. They sit on the deck at the table, and watch the waves. They wander down to the lookout and then the private beach. They build a camp fire. They drink wine and look at the stars. They skinny dip. Uptight people will not like it here. It's that simple. (for example, there is an oil painting of a nude in the living room, and somebody duct taped a towel over it! It took the paint off her face!) But please, NO Smokers.

Great little place!
Fine size for a family of three. Great kayaking. Beautiful views.
Nice getaway place in Vermont
Lovely property for 2. Unconventional charm and fun place to enjoy the lake. Definitely use the bug spray! Sunsets were a charm!
Million dollar views.
This property is exactly what's advertised. My husband and I had an awesome time here. Loved the house... It had everything you need. Laurel was so great making sure we had everything we needed. Great beach with a firepit to hang out and enjoy the most beautiful sunsets I have ever seen. The deck has views of the lake and is a great place to have breakfast every morning. The look out is awesome... We took plenty of pictures here. All around a fantastic place to relax or enjoy the lake. Thank you Laurel for being so great. Will definitely go back.
My dog Sheba loved it more than I did and I really loved the site, so peaceful
Being right on the beautiful Lake Champlain was wonderful, a short walk down the path. My dog and I stayed close to the cabin. My dog had free rein to explore the area. Laurel was impressed that she stayed close by me. Now that we are home, she thinks she can escape the fenced yard and explore, always staying close by but there are cars at home and it makes me nervous.
I highly recommend this site if you just want a peaceful and relaxing experience. Just what the doctor ordered for me.
I even added an extra day on the front end . I will go there again!
Quiet and Cozy Retreat with Amazing views
Amazing lake views right out the door greeted us every morning. This place was just as the description stated. (Make sure you read it closely!). It was so cozy and very quiet. Laurel was great and made our stay excellent. I thought the bed was super comfortable, yet if you are tall your feet might hang off. The daybed is also comfortable and would accommodate a taller person. I highly recommend this place if you want to get away from it all. So close to many outdoorsy things to do. You can kayak, canoe, or swim right from the back yard. We made a fire on the beach and had s’mores. We watched the sun set behind the mountain every night. So many neat nearby towns to visit. Hike snake mountain or go across the lake to the Adirondacks. Love love loved it!! We will definitely plan to come back here again soon!
cozy retreat time
I spent 3 nights at the cabin with my dog for a little cozy, peaceful getaway, and it definitely fit the bill! The electric fireplace added to the charm and cozy effect, with the ease and convenience of being hooked up to the thermostat, so that you just set the temperature, and the fireplace would rev up as needed. It ended up being a rainy couple of days, so I missed out on getting to see the beautiful-looking sunsets, but would be worth another trip back, just to experience those! We did manage to get out for a hike one day to Snake Mountain, as others have suggested, and that was perfect, and only about 15 minutes away. Another day took a little outing into Middlebury, cute college town, and visited their natural foods coop, very well-stocked place with all you could need. The kitchen area is small at the cabin, but I brought supplies and food with me, and managed to cook up a nice beef stew one day! I found the bed to be kind of hard for my preferences, but I then opted to sleep on the daybed the other two nights, and that was fine. If you are looking for peaceful, simple, rustic but with a few nice amenities, this is a great find. Also, Laurel was very helpful and kind, offered some good suggestions about the area, and was nearby so stopped over when I was having trouble with the wifi and helped me get it hooked up correctly. And her dog is a charmer too!
Google Middlebury, Champlain Valley-- several great beer breweries, so many farmers markets and street fairs. This is the real Vermont. Glorious swimming holes in Bristol and East Middlebury. Revolutionary Forts across the bridge in New York State. Amazing hikes up Snake Mountain.
