|Minimum Stay||7 nights|
When looking for a holiday home, in lower Normandy we came upon La Joliere ‘the pretty place’ an area set high in the rolling hills, on a scenic route, where the air is clean and fresh. We immediately fell in love with the 360 degree views over the glorious surrounding countryside and the large, old stone farmhouse that enjoys sole residency in this magical spot. With a wood close by that is ribboned by little streams, it is a haven for wildlife and several unusual species of birds. If you mention La Joliere to the locals, they will respond ‘Ah, La Joliere, tranquille!’ And tranquil it is with your nearest neighbours 1/2 kilometre away. However, 2 miles in either direction will bring you to 2 well-appointed villages. We are just 6 miles to the bustling town of Vire with its wealth of restaurants, shops, theatre, cinema, weekly market etc. and direct train line to Paris. We have WiFi and an indoor games room with pool, table tennis & darts. Outside - boules, badminton and heated swimming pool.
Dear Moira and Chris
I hope this mail finds you both well?
I wanted to drop you a note to say thank you!
We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay at La Joliere. There are too many things to compliment you on re the lovely farmhouse however a selected few are the fabulous, well stocked kitchen with the warming log fire; the great bedrooms which have all been tastefully decorated and furnished with comfortable beds and bed linen; the very entertaining games room which kept us all occupied for hours on end during our stay; the warm welcoming hamper which you kindly left for us; the La Joliere folder on things to do was very informative – indeed everything that we could and would want was available, even down to the adapters which was a really nice homely touch.
We all continue to speak of our great experience and are even talking about when and not if we will come next time
Hope we cleaned up well enough to your expected standards and thanks once again
We will defintely be coming back
PS – Chris …the star gazing is out of this world…thanks for the tip
This house is really fantastic for a stay with children. The large garden where they can play football and other outside games, the swimming pool.
Even inside is the large play- room with possiblities to play table tennis, darts and there is a pooltable.
The nice and big kitchen gives you the opportunity to have cosy family dinners with each other! The rooms and beds are good. I really don't have any bad remark about this beautiful Normandy House. Even the owners are such lovely peoply and so willing to help to make your stay wonderful and full of nice souvenirs of Normandy!
What a wonderful place. My mixed age family group of seven first stayed here in 2015 and on leaving booked immediately for 2016. Nothing has changed, we did the same this year and will be back in 2017. Moira and Chris run an immaculate house kitted out with everything you need to create a 'home from home'. The grounds, pool, BBQ and outdoor eating area extend the theme of excellence. A shame that we're only there for a week.
This house is by far the best we have ever stayed in in France and there have been many over the last 15 years!! Beautifully decorated and so well equipped they had thought of everything even the picnic hamper! such a quiet location not a sound and hardly a car!! Hope to return next year.
Three generations - and we all absolutely loved our stay at La Joliere. The location is stunning - so quiet - until the children got in the pool (!) but then I didn't have to worry about noise as no nearby neighbours. The games room and pool were a great bonus and provided much amusement. The kitchen had all that was required; and we enjoyed a few BBQs during the week. Moira and Chris were very helpful during the week responding to the few queries we had. Such a peaceful location but only a few miles from the morning croissant - we tried the bakeries at Gathemo and Sourdeval - both good but more choice at the larger Sourdeval bakery. Also about 5 miles from Vire for the supermarket shop. We had a few days out- easy access to Mont St Michel - we went late afternoon but still quite busy. A very enjoyable few hours canoeing on the River Vire from Conde sur Vire. Browsing at a French car boot / brocante shops. The swimming pool at Vire (with slides/tubes/inflatables) also highly recommended. And finally Villedieu les poeles - for lunch out and a visit to the bell foundry (recommended). We all really really loved our time at Le Joliere and Normandy and wish to return. Thanks Moira & Chris.
Stayed here with friends in June 2015. The house is well maintained, the owners having thought of the guests every need. The house and grounds are beautiful and so peaceful, with the nearest neighbours being over 1/2 a mile away.
The owners are always contactable by phone and nothing is too much trouble, the dishwasher broke down during our stay and following a quick phone call they arrived the following day with a replacement!
If you are looking for a peaceful retreat in a beautiful setting then look no further.
We've already booked La Jolière for 2015 - for the sixth year running. That in itself tells you how much we and the family love it. It really has everything - great facilities for the children, plenty of space for the grownups and peace and quiet for us oldies. It's beautiful, it's scenic, it's comfortable, it's conveniently situated. Above all, it has Moira and Chris. We've never encountered owners who put more thought into making their guests comfortable and happy - from the generous welcome pack of groceries to the high quality of linen and kitchen equipment to the helpful and prompt response to any request, the attention to detail is obvious. All you have to do is sit back, pour another glass of wine and feel as carefree as the innumerable songbirds.
La Joliere is centrally placed to visit a host of interesting places that are easily accessible by car. Le Mont. St. Michel, rising from its island in the sea is 50 minutes, the west coast with its lovely beaches 40 minutes, Bayeux and the Normandy landing beaches 1 hour. Swiss Normandy and the castle of William the conqueror can also be reached in an hour, we have a folder at La Joliere with suggested routes for full and half-day trips out.
Other Activities: Lovely walks may be enjoyed from the foot of your drive.
