|Minimum Stay||7 nights|
L'Atelier is suitable for four adults + two children. As the rooms are spacious and easily accommodate one extra single bed each, L'Atelier can also accommodate six adults.
It has two bedrooms both with a double bed and en-suite bathroom. Both rooms will also accommodate cots or an extra single bed.
L'Atelier has a dining room with a fully equipped open plan kitchen/lounge at approx 40m2.
Outside there is a private terrace of approx. 30 sq meters, from where you can hear the fountain. It has a picnic table for dining al fresco.
There is also another private outside space - a small walled garden with picnic table under beech trees.
Washing facilities are available in the utility room adjacent to the Farmhouse.
Can Llouquette is recently renovated and set in 11 acres of forest and garden with it's own stream. It has a large pool, a mature garden, vegetable garden, fields, a stream with picnic tables, hammocks and BBQs.
We are in the Eastern Pyrenees, in the most southerly valley in France. It is an area of outstanding natural beauty only thirty miles from the Mediterranean at the start of the Pyrenean mountain range. We are only minutes from Spain and can be reached from Girona or Barcelona, as well as Perpignan airports.
What makes Can Llouquette extra special is that it is set in its own little valley. It is extremely private with no neighbours and has acres of meadows, forest and stream for you to enjoy. Yet the local bakery, cafe and restaurant is only 5 minutes away and market towns are only a quarter of any hour away.
We have four restored holiday cottages for rental: La Bergerie (for four people), Le Pommier (for two people), El Casot (for two people) and L'Atelier (for four to six people).

We searched for years for a property with land and a river with several outbuildings. After two years of circumnavigating Canigou on the French / Spanish border we found this place and fell in love. It is tucked away in its own valley, and feels safe and secluded.
You can see the stars at night and listen to owls. There is no light pollution, no noise from roads and no neighbours. Listening to the stream, birds and butterflies it was hard not to fall in love with the tranquility of the place. And the air quality is wonderful, it is a joy to breathe the night-time air!
We spent a wondeful week staying in La Bergerie at Can Llouquette. It's a beautiful, tranquil place, set in a wonderful, quiet location, close to Canigou, one of the iconic mountains of the Pyreneés.
Simon, our host couldn't have been more welcoming and took real pleasure and pride in giving us the most relaxing, worry free of holidays.
Le Bergerie is a comfortable and well equiped Gîte, with it's own terrace and there's also a lovely swimming pool which is a great place to get to know any other families in residence.
I can thoroughly recommend a week or two at Can Llouquette for a completely care free family holiday.
Can Llouquette didn't live up to our expectations - it surpassed them! From the moment we arrived, Simon made sure that we were comfortable, had everything we needed and was a mine of useful information about the region, what to do and where to visit. The gite was immaculate and equipped with everything you could possibly need, with the benefit of a large shady private terrace to shelter from the midday sun. There are 4 gites at the property, and L'Atelier proved a good choice for our boisterous and sometimes 'barky' dog as this gite is set a little away from the main house and other gites ... our neighbours were probably grateful! The grounds are beautiful, with a stream running through and lots of private spots for picnics and generally just lazing around. The pool was probably the best I have enjoyed in a holiday rental - big enough for a decent swim and with sun-facing terraces and plenty of comfy loungers ... and, like the accommodation and garden, was kept beautifully clean. Whilst I enjoyed lazing around the pool, 'himself' could just take himself off for several hours of strenuous walking, with mountain paths accessible directly from the property. Days out were spent frontier-hopping between France and Spain - the Sunday market in Comprodon (Spain) was a great place to do the food shopping, so you only need to arrive with the basics on a Saturday. All in all, a perfect spot for a late season break, although I imagine it could be even more beautiful in the verdant early summer-time.
Can Llouquette took longer to get to from Beziers airport than expected, and we arrived late at night. It seems very remote on first visit and after dark, but once you get to know the roads and get a feel for the place, the ten minutes or so to Montferrer or Prats doesn't seem too far. The track down to the cottages is very rough and when we arrived in a dark distant forest tired and hungry we couldn't have been happier with the warm welcome and the beautiful accommodation. The offer of a carafe of wine was most welcome, and we were so pleased that Ashley had put a travel cot in the spare room for our youngest, and a chest of toys for him, so thoughtful. The beds were comfortable, the cottage was cosy, and the view from the cottage in the morning was just amazing.
The owners were very helpful and accommodating, nothing was too much trouble, and although we saw them around during the day they were not at all intrusive and really very lovely people.
The pool was too cold to swim in comfortably in May, but no doubt will be fabulous later in the year. It's really a very lovely part of the world and I genuinely think we will return sometime. We would happily have stayed much longer than the week had our schedule allowed.
Can Llouquette is such a beautiful & restful place to spend a holiday. Simon & Ashley are very welcoming, the location is stunning and if you ever get bored of lying beside the immaculate pool watching the myriad butterflies (which I didn't) there are lots of things to do in the surrounding area, including driving into Spain for lunch, or hurtling down a mountain zip-wire. Prats de Mollo, the nearest town, is very pretty. Our accommodation, L'Atelier, was very spacious - we were a family of 4 - and well-equipped with a huge kitchen/living area and 2 en suite shower rooms. The mountain location means that it's cool during the night and early morning. My sons (11 & 9) loved the pool and Simon & Ashley were very tolerant of their sudden penchant for evening swims! A week wasn't long enough to properly explore the grounds, which include a long riverside walk and plunge pools, as well as hammocks. It is rare on holiday that I feel I could stay longer but this was one of those rare times.
Our young family (4 & 6) recently spent one week at L’Atelier and we had a wonderful time.
Simon and Ashley are both well travelled and have worked hard to create an environment that is really lovely to stay at. This ranges from the smallest details within each property to the relaxed but thoughtful way they treat you during your stay. The properties all benefit from the pool and garden but residents can also wander around the rest of the grounds which are left fairly wild to attract an enormous number of butterflies.
The people in the nearby villages and towns were the friendliest French people that I have come across.
We followed our stay with a week at the beach which was a good balance for our family but our second property just could not meet the high standards set at Can Llouquette.
Our week in Can Llouquette stands out as the best family holiday in years. It's 7 months since we visited and still both our boys - then 7 and 9- talk about our week in the French Pyrenees as the absolute best. It's hard to your finger on why it is such a special place. It is beautiful and carefully thought-through without being precious, the bumpy drive invites you to switch off to the demands of normal life, the pool begs you to jump in. For our oldest the highlight was the arrival of the two new donkeys which he likes to think he personally tamed and meeting another boy of his age. For our youngest Sophia (owners' Ashley and Simon's daughter) was a big hit as was climbing his first ever mountain.
At Can Llouquette there is no pressure to socialise. It really is a case of 'make it up as you go along' and Simon and Ashley strike just the right balance of hospitality and warmth and knowing when to leave you to your holiday. What a find! If we didn't have to go to Portugal for a family party this summer, this is where we would be again in August 2013.
We are in the Vallespir Valley of the Pyrénées Orientales, on the outskirts of the village of Montferrer. This is the southern-most region in France and the sunniest, averaging over 300 days per year.
At the heart of the region is Mount Canigou dominating the horizon from almost every vantage point.
The planes undulate with vineyards laid out before the impressive mountains. The higher valleys are covered with oak, ash, beech and chestnut. The views are exceptional, the roads ‘untroubled’, and the weather very agreeable.
There are no properties overlooking us, no busy roads, no light pollution, just perfect peace. The nearest market town is Prats de Mollo at 15mins.
The nearby French and Spanish Mediterranean coast has many long beaches and secluded coves: Argeles, Collioure, Roses and Cadaques.
Perpignan at 1hr is the capital and other famous cities and market towns within reach include: Ceret, Figueras, Carcassone, Montpellier, Girona, Besalu and Camprodon.
Other Activities: Cuisine, wine tasting, sight seeing, Spain, Vallespir Rally, spas, watersports.
Golf: There are some outstanding courses not far from the house. The two closest courses are Domaine de Falgos and Camprodon (over the border in Spain).
The closest of the two is the stunning 18-hole course at Domaine de Falgos.
Established in 1991, it is a Par 70 of 5044 mt, where you'll also enjoy an exceptional panorama: the snows of Canigou and blue of the Mediterranean.
The Camprodon Golf Club boasts a 9-hole course located in the beautiful natural surroundings of the Camprodon Valley.
The club has made the most of the natural course of the River Tortell which cuts across many of the holes: meaning that skill, strategy and focus are required.
