Hale ‘Amakihi is a great space for families and friends!
- English, Spanish, Portuguese
Wendy and Marcos love to travel. We each traveled extensively before we met, and traveling is one of many things we love to do together. When not traveling, we work around the property creating gardens, harvesting honey, tending the sheep, building chicken coops or going out and about on 'staycations' and taking advantage of this lovely island home. We love cooking, good food and good stories.
Owner/Manager purchased this House in 2002
Why Owner/Manager chose Hawaiian Paradise Park
Hale `Amakihi is located in a special place that pulled us in and became our home. The family who lived here were our friends through work at Hawai`i Volcanoes National Park and Malamalama Waldorf school. During our visits to their home, their nine year old daughter would eagerly show us around the place. She loved being outside exploring and climbing trees. She fully had all the birds' nests mapped and knew how many young had hatched. She was really an inspiration for how we wanted our son to grow up. As it turned out, the family had to move out of state. Through some interesting sequences of events, we moved in, purchased the property next door, and built our current home. Our best friend and her sons have lived in the house for the past years while she has been working on her PHD. She recently moved, and though sad to say goodbye, we are embracing the change! Last summer we traveled to Thailand and had a great house sitter who encouraged us to share our unique place as a vacation rental. While in Thailand, we were honored to be hosted by some great individuals and had fun being the gracious guests. Upon our return, we decided to become hosts by bringing guests into our special place. Come! We are happy to have you as a guest at Hale `Amakihi.
What makes this House unique
The `Amakihi bird is one of many Hawaiian honey creepers. it is a resilient and adaptable little bird, and is making a comeback. They have a strong population here in our neighborhood and we are lucky to hear them daily. Our community makes us special as well. Copy the link to our favorite spots:

Visiting from LA
Beautiful property with it's in unique sights and sounds with access to highways leading to every side of the island. Enjoyed our stay and would stay here again.
Very nice stay at Hale ‘amakihi
Wendy was a very welcoming host. It was a really nice house for our stay. The kitchen was especially well equipped and spacious, so if you like to cook for yourself, it is a good place to stay.
Tropical forest stay
We love our stay at Wendy’s. We got the whole property to ourselves, but Wendy is right next door if we need help w anything. The yard was huge and cover w tropical plants. Upon arrival, Wendy gave us a tour of her property and garden, and my kids were excited to meet the animals in the yard. The lanai has a hammock, and it was so easy to spend an afternoon there w a book.
There are also all the beach gears we need to enjoy a day on the beach.
The location is conveniently located within 20-30 min drive from the local attractions. We were able to visit Hilo and also Pahoa area all in one day. It was quite an experience to see the new lava field from the 2018 eruption.
If you are a nature lover, you will really enjoy being surrounded by the tropical plants and falling asleep to the chirping of bugs and frogs in this spacious place.
Sorry that our stay was cut short. I wish we could of stayed longer to use the washer and dryer and get use to the place. Next time we will stay longer if available.
Our home away from home.
These folks make us feel welcome and have everything we need to be comfortable in their kitchen, bedrooms, and their orchard. We hope to return again and again.
Thank you!! You are always welcome! We are honored to have hosted you for the third time, and trust you feel at home in Hale `Amakihi.
For the Family that really wants to relax like a local surrounded by plant and animal life.
Wendy and Family have been so hospitable to all of us. It was a comfort to know that she was next door should we have any questions about tourist destinations and in case of emergency (none had). Each night, we slept comfortably in our beds to the sleep of singing frogs and birds. The outside porch/deck provided an amazing place to sleep in the hammock, play card games and eat meals. The solitude that this house provided cannot be understated. If you want lots of space, peaceful sounds, fresh fruit and a big kitchen, this is for you.
Thank you Mark, Rosemary & Family!
It was lovely to have you stay at Hale `Amakihi and you are welcome back any time.
