La Mosella was a farmhouse and is situated in a quiet position on the outskirts of the village of Riol, only 14 kilometres from 'Trier'. You live alone in this house. Within view are the slopes of the vineyards and the river Mosel, only 500 metres away, offers the possibility of fishing, water sports etc. The Mosel cycle path is directly accessible from the house. From a terrace which is not overlooked from the street you can barbecue, drink coffee or let your children play. Shops, pubs and restaurants are available in the vicinity.

Absolutely Lovely!!!

We had tried to book Haus Mosella in previous years without success. So glad we managed to book it this year as we've had a really lovely time The pictures shown here, really don't do this lovely little house justice. It isn't brand new, its traditionally German and it is totally charming and full of character but with every modern comfort you can possibly think of. The beds are comfy, the kitchen is very well equipped with plenty of utensils and crockery. We are a family of 4 with two teenaged boys and we had plenty of space, we particularly enjoyed the little courtyard garden. We had a very comfortable 2 weeks, but it would be more than fine for a longer stay - and we might well do this in the future. We didn't find very much in Riol, there are a couple of shops and lots of wine sellers but a couple of bars seemed to have closed - perhaps because of the big Trialago resort down the road. However, it is a very pretty village with lots and lots of really good walks direct from the house. At the Trialago, you can swim or do watersports on the lake, there is a Rodelbahn and a Segway ride. We didn't use the hotel restaurant, but we used the Waldsee Pizza restaurant a lot and it was lovely. There is a freibad in Shweich but we used one in Kordel, the Kylltalbad which we thought was well worth a few minutes extra drive. Riol is very near the A1 Autobahn so is fabulous for touring the area which we did a lot of. We visited Trier, Luxembourg City, Saarburg, Bernkastel, Piesporter and Zell and would recommend any of them for a day out. We also caught the train at Schweich and used the Rheinland Pfaltz ticket to go to Koblenz returning with a stop off at Cochem. We had a fabulous time and really didn't want to come home!

Great stay in Riol

We spent 12 good nights in this house in Riol. The house is very good value, well stocked, clean and with good facilities. When we arrived, Beatrix was there to greet us and show us around the house and there was a chilled bottle of local white wine in the fridge! Riol was quite sleepy but had a shop that opened just in the morning and a restaurant (that we didn't get round to trying). There is a good size secure shed in the nearby garden for storage of cycles, we hired some from a nearby village (Longuich) for 9 Euros a day per bike. We couldn't get helmets so if you are thinking of hiring bikes, it would be worth bringing your own if you have them. The house is quite close to the river and there is a cycle path along the river in both directions. However towards Trier the cycle path soon leaves the river side and is not so nice but still mostly a separate path. Down river the path follows the river more closely and so is a bit nicer. Very nearby (10 min walk) is a hotel that had a rodelbahn (bit like a cross between a roller coaster and a tobogan run), a cable water skiing/wake boarding lake and a swimming lake with beach and very large inflatables for the kids to play on. The resort is still a work in progress and there was some landscaping going on so was not so pretty but in a few years I expect the trees will have grown and it will look great. All these were quite a reasonable cost. The Roman remains in Trier are worth a visit and there are some nice towns and villages down the river. Luxembourg city is 40 mins drive away and has good park and ride and is also worth a visit. The trip from Calais took about 4.5 hours and is mostly motorway with no tolls. Only the last few miles is non motorway. The driving locally was quite relaxed (much less manic than Italy last year!) Eating out was quite reasonable in various restaurants at about 50 Euros for 4 people. Ice cream cones were very cheap at 80 cents for one scoop of very nice icecream or sorbet. There is a 'Aldi' like supermarket at nearby Longuich called Norma, which was well stocked and good value and had a good bakery and cafe attached. However two of the supermarkets we tried did not take credit cards, including our Thomas Cook Eurocash Mastercard so we ended up using a lot of cash, but there was a bank near with an ATM. Overall we can thoroughly recommend this area and this property.

Very Spacious and Well Located

We stayed in this home for 1 week and found it to ideally located for exploring the Mosel Valley. It was well equipped, clean and well maintained. The house is located in a small village and on a very quiet street. We looked forward to returning to our "home" at the end of a busy day. We would definitely recommend this property to out friends.

Weinort Riol

Wir waren 1 Woche im Dezember dort. Das Haus ist ideal für Hundebesitzer. Man ist in 5 Minuten an der Mosel zum spazieren gehen. Ein Parkplatz ist am Haus vorhanden. Und die wunderschöne Stadt Trier ist in 15 Minuten mit dem Auto erreichbar.

Gemütliches Haus

Wir waren an einem kühleren Herbstwochenende dort. Es war warm und gemütlich und mit allem ausgestattet, was man braucht. Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt.
