|Minimum Stay||4 nights|
Set in its own gardens with a sweeping drive to the terrace, olive groves and vineyard, this villa (with wi-fi) has the wow factor with a fabulous panoramic view of the Majiella and Gran Sasso mountains, words and pictures cannot show how beautiful this is.
Close to the Adriatic coast, the sea is only 20 min away with its miles of sandy beaches. The villa is perfectly positioned for a beach, walking, or cycling holiday. Or simply sit on the terrace in the perfect stillness and watch the local farmers tend the vines and olives in the valley and watch the lights coming on in the valley as evening falls,
The property comprises 3 bedrooms and bathroom upstairs, and downstairs there is a large kitchen, sitting room and shower room. In the gardens there is a shaded eating area and plenty of room for lounging in the sun . Simply enjoy a glass of wine overlooking the fabulous views and when you are ready to eat why not have a barbecue on the terrace or even try the outside pizza oven. Loungers and patio furniture, also outside lighting for late al fresco dining.
The area: Elice nestles between the Adriatic coast and the majestic Gran Sasso mountain ranges, and offers the possibility of a very varied holiday. You can be on the beach within 25 min or walking in the National Park within an hour. Train and bus services to Rome are regular and simple to use and offer the possibility of combining a short break in the Eternal City or just a day trip there.
The landscape surrounding Elice is picturesque against the backdrop of the majestic Gran Sasso and offers superb walking and cycling. There are also many hilltop towns to explore including the historic towns of Penne, Citta San Angelo and Atri. In July a Blues music festival is held in Atri and in August the famous Mugnai Festival is held in Elice. During the summer there are many festivals at surrounding towns and villages.
There are plenty of local shops to serve your needs and a large supermarket and indoor shopping mall is not far away on the way to the coast. Also a smart designer outlet village is well worth a visit.
A variety of great value restaurants are within easy access of the house and there is a local supermarket, superb butchers with restaurant, a famous arrosticini (local speciality lamb) restaurant and a cantina which produces the local Montepulciano and Trebbiano wines all within 10 min. A health spa with pool is also nearby.
Facilities: The house accommodates 6 people comfortably and has everything required for your comfort and convenience including large well equipped kitchen and dining area, outside dining area with lighting for al-fresco suppers, BBQ, pizza oven, sun loungers and cushions. The house has gas central heating and an open fireplace for winter comfort. Upstairs there is a room with twin and single beds, a large double bedroom and a third with sofa-bed which can also be used as a sitting room/kitchenette if preferred. The upstairs wet room has a shower, toilet and bidet. Downstairs you find the large kitchen with table for 6, the sitting room is complete with sofa-bed to seat 3, a two seat sofa and a single rocking chair and selection of DVDs in English, and games. Also cloakroom and large shower. You can enjoy our own olive oil from our olive trees and help yourself to the figs, oranges, apples, pears and artichokes when in season. There is also rosemary and a bay tree to help your BBQ taste even better! Local guides and maps are provided. A perfect place to relax
Getting there: Ryanair operates regular scheduled flights from Stansted to Pescara airport. Car hire can easily be booked and the house is a 30 min drive from the airport. Rome and Ancona airports are easily accessible via the motorway network.
There is also a ferry service between Pescara and Croatia.
Hi, we live in Rugby, Warwickshire, UK and have 3 grown up children and 2 grandaughters. We didn't have any contact with Abruzzo before buying the house there and no italian blood in our genes but now when we visit there it feels like home. The local people are friendly and welcoming.
Julie A'Barrow purchased this house in 2007
We just fell in love with it and the Italian rural way of life. We wanted somewhere to spend our holidays in an area with good transport links, that we would be able to reach on a short flight from UK. The plan is that we will be able to spend months at a time here when we eventually retire. We have had many wonderful holidays here and made friends in the local community. The house is large enough for all of the family for visits and to entertain. Our neighbours have been great and really helpful and supportive of our efforts to make a good wine. We are learning as we go along and now our efforts are being rewarded. The best part of any holiday for us is relaxing in the garden. We spend many happy hours looking at the view watching the local farmers. The light changing all the time. There are vast expanses of vines planted down the hillsides for optimum sunshine and olive trees. We are ideally placed for several small towns nearby for half day visits and a choice of beaches at Montesilvano and Pineto. We have found restaurants to suit every budget including basic trattorias with fantastic food. We even have a buffet sushi restaurant nearby. Not to everyone's taste when visiting Italy but in a popular place in a smart outlet village providing another choice in an area which inland is full of sights of ladies sweeping in their housecoats and old men sitting on old tractors smoking a cigarette. The beaches at weekends are full in summer with extended family parties spending a day together. The proximity to Rome was another factor and we have visited many times and still want to go again.
The view was what we fell in love with first - the estate agent cleverly kept us waiting outside and we thought it must be a tip inside! So it was a welcome relief that the house was in good order and the upstairs all ready to move in to. We were impressed with the large bedrooms, fitted wetroom and the wide corridor hallway. Downstairs we have changed the kitchen and lounge rooms over and fitted modern units and a large cooker for entertaining.
Review # 5535769 "A really great holiday"
After a drive, we arrived in Elice and were excited about the new holiday destination. According to our first impression, we were very excited, my kids were very happy about the large property. Receiving Tracey, despite language difficulties, was very Friendly, welcoming and attentive. We understood each other what was going to say the one and the other. She has shown the house and grounds and explained everything. As I said, we have probably filled in the same house, it was like coming home. Our children have enjoyed, entlich to have a great holiday and our two dogs also. They have "poodle well" filled. Of the house, everything was there, washing machine, TV, dishes, shower 2x, etc., but a coffee machine (Germany) was missing, my wife has brewed the coffee, has also tasted. Now to the beach, despite the 30min drive each day, the beach was always clean and easy, even if one was a storm in the night, was cleaned the next day the beach. Parking near the beach are small, you should schedule a time to get shut a parking lot, as had lost some time now and, well, that was so, we still had great fun on the beach. The shopping opportunities in Pescare were very good, everything had found what we were buying daily (fresh). In the shops the prices were very different from one another. Pescare is worth the trip, it is a beautiful city, the people are very Friendly, the interior is very nice, it's just 30min car ride from Pescare and is in the middle of the mountains. In our time there were several festivals in the area, we all haten 2-3days always a firework in the sky, the fireworks were very huge and marveled again. Now, at the end: A great pleasure to Julie, we say thank you for the herlichen great holiday and look forward to next year 2013. Greetings from Bavaria, the Miller family
We arrived at night after a short drive from the airport so didn't fully appreciate the views until we awoke the next morning.
We were greeted by the most amazing picture of the fields of olive trees, grape vines and the gran sasso mountains.
We found the Villa to be well equipped with a modern kitchen and coffee making facilities. We enjoyed a coffee and freshly picked grapes, pears and figs from the sun terrace for breakfast which was a real treat and we took in the stunning scenery.
The bed was comfy, so comfy we struggled to get out of it and the shower was piping hot and had a decent amount of power.
We found the plastic plates etc and the cool box, sunshades and chairs invaluable to take our picnic to the beach which was a short drive away.
There are some lovely local shops selling fresh fruits and vegetables. We bought some great meat and wine and had a barbeque in the garden one night. There was some very tasty olive oil provided which we took advantage of and understand the olives were grown at the Villa.
Also useful to note is that Wifi is available and worked in the garden so enabled us to sit in the sun and surf the net.
Although you do need a car to get around we did go for a walk and find a good bar to rest at. The local restaurant Agriturismo was fantastic we paid €25 for a feast that we couldn't finish but were given the remainder to take out and eat the following day.
We would fully recommend this beautiful, well equipped Villa to stay and experience the flavour of Italy.
We spent 5 nights at this fabulous villa. Perfect location to explore the region. Spacious with all the amenities you would need. Welcome package and Wifi were a bonus too. The locals were extremely friendly and accommodating. The best part were the views and sunsets from the gardens. Will definitely return. Absolutely recommend!
This is a fantastic house. There were only 2 downsides: the only stairs are on the outside of the house, and you have to go through the kitchenette room upstairs to get to the other 2 bedrooms. Had we known we may not have booked, and would have deprived ourselves of one of the most relaxing and tranquil holidays we've ever had. After 9 years of visiting Italy, we thought we were settled and happy in Umbria. Then we visited Abruzzo, and now have to re-think the whole thing! We've never been anywhere before where you can sit outside, mid-week, mid-afternoon, obligatory glass of wine in hand, in absolute - total - silence. No wind, no dogs (No, really! Well ok, not all the time) and see for miles and miles with no movement and swear you were the only people in the country! The house is a great base for visiting the area, and Julia and David have made this a welcoming and relaxing facility. The local people are friendly, local roads are largely empty and interesting! You are not far from Pescara and the A14 Autostrada at Citta St Angello. Pescara Nord shopping center is just a minute away from the toll booths.
Within an hour or so on the A14 you can get to Ortona - we fell in love with the place, as well as Chieti; a bit further afield and places such as lago di Scallo and Roccascalegna are easily reachable but the roads to it are not for the faint of heart. The wonderful sandy and family-friendly beaches at Montesilvano are not too far away either, and with the provision of 2 beach parasols at the house, we were well set up for a day or two by the sea, with free parking right by the beach.
There are many recommendations in the house for places to go and eat, most at a very affordable price. If you go to the local Agriturismo be prepared for a very warm welcome and a huge meal and great value! Also il Gallo is great. Very relaxed, beautiful hotel, and exceptional value. And very friendly owners. The Pizzaria la Mugnaia was nice. Family-run, very busy but lots of space, very friendly, good food, good value.
There is a bit of light pollution at night but the Milky Way is clearly visible and I got some good photographs.
The house is very well equipped - it has insect nets at all the windows so bugs are very effectively kept at bay, and fans in all the rooms - very necessary in the summer. Lots of space outside - we ate outside a lot.
So it is with great pleasure that we highly recommend this house for family holidays.
I would definitely stay at La Collina again as it is in such a beautiful and tranquil location. We spent a lot of time in the garden as it was so lovely to be able to sunbathe there and eat meals looking at the amazing view. The kitchen was well equipped which was lovely as part of the holiday for us is cooking with the beautiful Italian food. The bed was very comfortable and the house was cool and spacious . It was also good to have WiFi, even in the garden, which meant we could research places in the area. All the information provided was excellent too. We ate at the restaurant in Casabianca where the arrosticini was delicious. We also ate at Terre e Sapori where the anti pasto della casa was amazing and at Il Gallo where the owners were so friendly and welcoming. The food was good there too, proper rustic Italian food. The countryside is beautiful and unspoilt by tourism so you feel you are visiting the real Italy. We have been to the area before and will return again in the future as we always have such wonderful holidays in Abruzzo.
I would highly recommend La Collina for the perfect Italian holiday.
The point in this house are the views from the yard and the surrounding countryside. The location is really peaceful, but rural so a car is quite necessary. Of course having a car available allows one to drive around Abruzzo, the small hill towns are good places to visit and a drive to the mountains is also an experience.
The house itself is in good condition and e.g. the kitchen is well supplied with the necessary items to make your own meals. Maybe the toaster could be fixed...
Plenty of room for two persons, having a lounge and kitchen downstairs (with outside stairs to the upper floor) and upstairs two bedrooms and a lounge and with two bathrooms.
During our stay the the temperature was often over 30 degrees, the highest we hit was 36 in the shade. So the fans supplied were really useful in the bedroom to get air circulation. Downstairs was a little bit cooler in the heat than the upstairs rooms, but we spent most of our time in the yard. During the day it was possible to either select a location to sit in the shade or doing some sunning.
Arrived to gorgeous weather at end of March so was able to sample al fresco eating with wonderful views of the countryside and mountains. Lovely clean hoise with all the facilities you would need. There are villages in easy walking distance, medieval towns not far to drive to and the drive to Pescara or airport, shopping, beach, harbour etc only 25 mins away. The local vineyard sells excellent wine too. We had a day trip to Rome (bus from Pescara - 2.5 hour journey through wonderful scenery) and it was an unmissable experience to see the many sights of Rome including St. Peters, the Vatican, etc as well as the pretty streets - I really recommend. Although if you feel like doing nothing this is the place to do it as plenty of places to sit in the sun or the shade and gaze at wonderful scenery.
Set in the beautiful Abruzzo countryside which is likened to Tuscany. This property is near the beach and the National park. There are fantastic views from the Villa of the mountains and villages, vineyards and olive groves. The villages of Elice and Casabianca are a short walk with local shops and restaurant. A swimming pool in a beautiful setting is no more than 10 minutes by car at Castilenti. The picturesque bustling medieval hilltop towns of Penne, Atri and Citta Sant Angelo are nearby and well worth a visit for a coffee or gelato. Pescara for shopping and the beaches (25 min) are within easy reach. Daily buses run from Pescara to Rome for a day trip or perhaps you would like to extend your holiday. Elice holds an annual medieval sagre at the beginning of August highly recommended. Pescara Nord motorway junction is 20 min away from the villa for easy access if you arrive by car. By the motorway junction there is a large supermarket complex and a smart outlet shopping centre.
