Blaven is situated on the edge of the town of Oban, the centre is about a 15 minute walk away. It's elevated position ensures outstanding views from just about every window in the house. Oban is the Gateway to the Isles and ferry services to many Scottish Islands are a five minute drive from the house. As well as being an idyllic family holiday home Blaven also provides the ideal base for bird watchers, fishermen, photographers, visiting the Gardens of Argyll and Munro Bagging!
There is also a sea plane service which runs from Glasgow into Oban Bay and you will see the house as you fly in!
Three families from Italy, USA and UK shared this house for 1 week. We loved it! Great location (walking distance to town), large and spacious, nice playground for kids, and nice furnishings. Highly recommend for families, couples, etc. Master bedroom was large with large bath (shower and big tub). 1 bedroom in back connects to playroom with private bath which was very useful for 1 family to share (parents in bedroom and then used fold out beds for kids! We were able to close this area off for a private suite for a family. 2 large living rooms downstairs with TV and lot seating area. Large eat-in-kitchen. Laundry. Excellent house and highly recommend.
The house is wonderful, well kitted out, good rooms for a big party. A great kitchen/dining room. Plenty of things for children to do, excellent climbing frame.
A pity the beds were only made up for 11, as we had booked for 12!

The house is lovely with fantastic views across the water. There are some really sweet touches like the hamper, fresh flowers and Arran Aromatics shower gels which makes for a super welcome. The kitchen is well equipped with lots of space to cook family meals, and the beds deserve special mention as they are so comfortable with high quality bedding. The housekeeper should also be commended as the house is spotless. The walk down to town is really quick and its fun to have a race to see who gets to the top on the way back. We bought fresh langoustines and crab claws from the fish shop right at the ferry terminal (they even cracked the claws for us), and enjoyed them sitting at the picnic tables in the garden with the added bonus of sunshine while watching the ferries come in and out. I have only given the house a good condition as the BBQ is still missing (review from guests in May), and the kids play room needs attention with the lack of anything to use the Playstation and broken table tennis net. However, very small issues and certainly would not stop us recommending the house or returning to stay. A really gorgeous place to stay with many happy memories.
My husband and I rented Blaven for a special trip for us and our five grown children. We all agreed it was a perfect retreat to explore the highland region. The house is beautiful, spacious and well appointed. I particularly loved the view from the master bedroom! We enjoyed walking into Oban for activities and dinner. It was only a 10-15 minute walk down to the town center but the walkways are very steep. Even for an active family, the trip back up to Pulpit Hill felt long and strenuous after multiple trips in a day. The house has wifi, but it was only accessible in the sitting room. The owners have two extenders, which would probably have made the signal strong and accessible throughout the house, but the password for the extenders was not provided. On the positive side, this gave a good excuse to be disconnected from the "real world". We enjoyed Oban's restaurants but also cooked at home two nights.
The house is beautifully presented and the attention to detail is great. It was all the little touches that were so welcoming. Brilliant for kids and adults alike and our dog loved bounding up and down the garden too. The play area was excellent. We really needed a few more nights to fully utilise the facilities, would definitely come back. Oban itself is stunning and the views from the house do it justice!
This property couldn't have been better set up for our large group. The kitchen was fantastic and allowed us all to sit around the table even when we entertained family from the area. Having all the equipment for the one year old that was travelling with us was also a bonus for us. All the children enjoyed the home and the outside play yard while the three year old was over the moon with the toy room. Everyone in our group enjoyed this home very much and the views were amazing. The only thing we missed was the barbeque as we understand a new one had been ordered but not yet delivered. We would highly recommend this property to friends and family and would love to stay here again!
The sheer variety of interesting locations in the Highlands make touring around worthwhile - while the views and vistas on the way are a further bonus. Some attractions reflect the wealth of the area's heritage, from prehistoric cairns to stately homes and castles.
Others are specific natural features, impressive on their own account - for example, the Corrieshalloch Gorge near Ullapool or the Quirang on Skye. Then there are the wildlife attractions, which range from TV close-ups of nesting eagles to wildlife parks and rare breed farms. Whatever your preferences, variety is guaranteed.
