About the property

10 min From Oslo Central Station, spacious and Garden, Overlooking The Fjord

Our beautiful and cozy apartment is back: Located on a small hill in a lush green garden right next to Ekeberg Forest and Park, less than a 10 min bus ride from the city. Enjoy the beauty of the fjord on a sunny day from the garden or norwegian cozyness with a wood burning oven in winter.

The apartment is on the lower floor of a large house (we live in the other apartment). It is perfect for families, located close to the city but in an area surrounded by the nature and just 10 min walk if you want to jump into the sea.

**NB - in June 2018 we will do some renovations in the apartment, new bathroom etc, so the place may look a bit different than on the pictures - but it will all be brand new and even more comfortable **

The apartment has a fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher, wireless Internet, TV (N.B. only 2 Norwegian channels), DVD player with a small DVD library for your enjoyment, washing machine. 2 bedrooms, one of them is with a large double bed and the other bedroom has a bunk bed with room for 2 people.

The bus stop is 5 min away and buses take you to Oslo Central Station within less than 10 minutes, leaving approx. every 10 minutes. The house is situated atop a hill and there is a 300 meter walk up the hill from the bus stop, which is great for the view! But if you have severe mobility problems, the walk up hill might be difficult without a car.

There are 2 other houses on the property with the most friendly neighbors, so if you need directions, it's easy to get some help.

The apartment is perfect for small groups or families and those who appreciate to have the great Norwegian nature around the corner (literally behind the house), even when being very close to the city.

We had a great stay. Would definitely rent it again.

  • 5 of 5

The apartment was great! One thing to keep in mind...there is quite a hike up to the house. We had no problems, but keep this in mind should you want to rent. Nicholas also showed us a walk through the forest to the train station and grocery store. The train was easy to navigate and we ride it many times. His notes at the house were very thorough. He had the correct train and bus numbers and gave us the name of a great local restaurant. Nicholas is a very gracious host. I would definitely stay there again.

Economical Family Flat

  • 4 of 5

Great and scenic location just outside of the city center. Very friendly and helpful owners. The inside of the flat was spacious enough for a family of four. The walk up to the flat from the bus stop was more difficult than described as it was a strenuous hike, up several paved roads, at quite an incline. It was an enjoyable workout for some of us, but the older members of the group really struggled, especially with luggage, when we arrived. Luckily, the owners showed us a short-cut through the woods, which turned an uphill hike into an easier downhill trek. We would stay here again, but not with anyone over sixty years old, or with mobility issues, or in poor health.

excellent apartment close to Oslo

  • 5 of 5

lovely location, excellent directions to find it, everything we needed and very close to the bus in to Oslo. There's also a petrol station close by for emergency snacks! Couldn't fault the place, or the friendliness of the Norwegians.

What a find!

  • 5 of 5

Before arriving I wasn't sure if I had picked the right property but from the moment I arrived and saw the view I knew I had made the right choice. So near to the city but far enough away to rest and re-charge your batteries after a day's sight-seeing. Public transport to and from the apartment is frequent and reliable. Property is as described on the website and both Nicholas and Volker are accommodating and welcoming hosts. Nothing is too much trouble. We booked an Oslo pass for the 3 days we were there and it was indispensable for using public transport and entry to all the main attractions. I found Oslo an enchanting city with lots and lots of things to see and do. We will definitely book this apartment the next time we come back to Oslo

Very welcome

  • 4 of 5

Nicholas & Volker were very welcoming in their messages and in person. Nicholas popped in the first evening to answer any queries, turn up the heating and arranged to show us the shortcut to the tram in the morning. Although the route through the woods to the tram is short, it is uphill (very steep in places), uneven underfoot and challenging in the snow. As the bus stop is downhill along the approach road, we took the bus into town in the morning and came back by tram. Since it was dark before 4pm, we needed our torches for the route through the woods, however this almost serene silence as we tramped home through the snow became a very welcome part of our day, and will be a treasured memory. We took up Nicholas’s suggestion of a day trip to Holmenkollen, to visit the ski jump and museum, and even though the view was limited by dense fog, it is stunning. Recommend for information on public transport and journey planning. Their 7 day travel pass was amazing value at 240NOK, and allowed us to travel all Oslo by train, tram or bus as we desired (also covers some ferries). You need a 60NOK top up for travel to the airport. The Oslo Pass is aimed at tourists, and includes free entry to museums and attractions as well as travel. Eating out is expensive, whether in cafes, brasseries or restaurants: expect food to be double what you’d pay in UK for a similar location and drinks 3 or 4 times as expensive. Accept it, and enjoy spending time in a beautiful city with friendly people - who all seem to speak English and enjoy showing their country to visitors. Where else could you sit next to an open fire, in a tent, enjoying elk burger and gluhwein, surrounded by stalls selling cheese, smoked meats, salmon, and Sami crafts? Not to mention an opera house that encourages people who walk up its roof for an amazing view over the harbour. Just remember to take multiple layers of warm clothing, good snow boots - and your credit card.

Car: not necessary

The house in which the apartment is located is on the hills that surround Oslofjord. This gives the possibility to see the fjord, but it also means that coming to the house from the road or the busstop is up a small hill.
