Description of Chania : Chania is a wonderful port town that is a popular tourist destination for shopping and sightseeing. It has many nice restaurants and contemporary cafés. Its old town has various souvenir ships, as well as craft and art shops that tourists really enjoy. The climate here in Chania is beautiful. The summers of April until October are warm with cloudless skies. And even if most days are hot and dry, the cool breeze relieves them.
Then, during the winter, seasonal rains and occasional frosts are experienced. Tourists can visit the Archaeological Museum of Chania, which contains many historical items from as far back as the fifteenth century B.C. Ancient jewellery, clay tablets, and mosaics are displayed here. The Byzantine Museum of Chania is also full of historical relics. It is located inside the Church of San Salvatore.
Description of Maheri and Local Activities: The village of Maheri is in the area of Apokoronas,23 km from Chania. This area is full of green regions, sandy beaches and breathtaking view. The village is considered to be one of the best preserved of the traditional villages of Crete. It is classified by the Ministry of Culture as a typical Greek village of extraordinary natural beauty. Amphitheatre built on the side of a mountain at an altitude of 160 m, between two gorges, it is one of the historical villages at the foot of the White Mountains.
This village is especially beautiful because of the enormous perpendicular rock on its west side which holds the white chapel of Saint-John in a split in the rock as well as the rich vegetation that covers the surrounding hills. On the east side of the village square there is a small stone theatre with the capacity for seating 500 people comfortably where cultural events take place each summer.
I was born and grew up in Chania, I have studied Tourism in Heraklion and Liege (Belgium) and I live in Chania with my husband and our two little girls.
Katerina Mastromanoli purchased this villa in 2007
It is the village where my grandparents lived and my mother was born. A very peaceful and traditional village with so many good memories of my childhood. My mother Olga decided to build those villas in Maheri as it is her birth place and she loves that place; she also wanted to maintain her connection with that village and to contribute in its developement.
Very good constructions, well-furnished and beautifully decorated. In a peaceful location with amazing views and surrounded by cretan nature.
Love this place!!!
We will recommend this place to anyone.Feels like home!
Thank you for everything...
Villa Aladanos is traditional in its style, blending seamlessly into Meheri village. The interior design is modern, spacious and rustic in appearance. It was cool and welcoming, especially after a day out in the sun. Furthermore, the courtyard was an excellent place to relax and unwind, sitting in the hot tub with a glass of wine or two!
We loved the open plan living area, which led to one of the main bedrooms. Whilst the bedroom was huge, the adjoining shower room, could have benefited from being a wet room.
The stairwell spiralled to the main bedroom and roof terrace. The vaulted ceiling in the bedroom, made the room more airy and spacious. The ensuite bathroom was designed well. It featured a deep bath with a mixer shower. However, a fully fitted shower inside the bath would have been more useful!
We can highly recommend two tavernas in nearby villages. Taverna Drosostalia in Armeni village was excellent value for money. The food and local wines were delicious. The portions were generous. Service was good too. A little further away in Aptera village, we ate more at The Cretan Corner. The scenic mountain views, food, wine and service was the best. The owner is very friendly and sociable.
Finally, a great big thanks to Katerina, who welcomed us to villa Aladanos and ensured we had everything we needed. Should you need assistance, Katerina was at hand. We would also like to thank Katerinas mother, Olga for our lovely home made leaving gifts. It was a nice touch!
We stayed for one glorious sunshine week, at the end of September 2016.
Overall, we loved Chania, the beaches and the surrounding scenic villages.Villa Aladanos made for a relaxing retreat, which we know you will enjoy.

Villa Aladanos is a sympathetically-restored traditional Cretan property in a small village with panoramic views over the sea, mountains and surrounding countryside. It was wonderfully peaceful there - the only sounds we heard were birds singing, goats' bells ringing and the occasional dog barking! The villa is very spacious, comfortable and well equipped with excellent layout of rooms, both bedrooms having ensuite facilities. There are three verandas outside, one with a hot tub and BBQ and the other two with amazing views. The local taverna in Armeni is excellent and not far by car. The nearest decent shopping is in Kalives, a short drive from the villa. We stayed in early Spring when the flowers are at their best and day-time temperatures are very pleasant; there is solar heating for the hot water but this needed boosting with the electric water heater and we also lit the wood fire every evening. Katerina was very friendly, helpful and punctual. We would definitely stay there again!
My family of five had a lovely stay in this beautiful house.
The house has been beautifully renovated. It was spotlessly clean, had all the amenities and had very comfortable beds.
The kids loved the spa and we enjoyed eating outside each evening.
While the town of Maheri is quite isolated, you can reach Chania within 20 minutes drive. We also drove to the Imbro gorge for an amazing walk.
Katerina is a wonderful and generous host.
Thank-you for a very relaxing enjoyable stay.
The location of this charming house can't be faulted--easy driving to cities and sights, from the amazing Aptera archaeological site to beautiful Rethymno and Chania.
The house is spacious and comfortably accommodated our 2 adults and 2 children. The Jacuzzi was a big hit with the children and we all enjoyed hanging out on the terrace and watching vultures flying over the mountains. Very clean.
Katerina was just giving birth during our stay, but she managed throughout to keep in touch by email and to address our questions. All our special requests were promptly resolved. Olga greeted us with fruits and raki (local spirit), and gave us a lovely parting gift when we left.
There is only air conditioning in the master bedroom upstairs, so it tended to get over-warm downstairs (we stayed in the height of the summer), but sleeping downstairs at night was made bearable with the fans thoughfully provided. AND we could sleep with open windows and not worry about mosquitos, because many of the windows have screens against insects. This is a GREAT feature! My husband and I, with slight back problems, would have slept better with firmer mattresses.
The kitchen was modestly equipped--I cooked every day and would have a appreciated a few more serving platters (a bunch of different sized mixing bowls would have been nice)--but I managed to improvise with the pots available (ie using a large pot as a salad bowl)
I would strongly recommend this house, for its spaciousness, hospitality and vicinity to interesting sights. Thanks Olga and Katerina!
