About the property

2 bedroom cottage within easy reach of Norwich

Granary Cottage: Period cottage converted from a granary and stables forming part of a traditional Norfolk farmstead in quiet village 14 miles south of Norwich. Comfortable accommodation with abundant character (large full height reception room) gives into private courtyard with BBQ and garden furniture. Immediately to hand is excellent walking in the quiet lanes and footpaths of this peaceful rural area. Within easy reach are the attractive old market towns of the Waveney valley such as Beccles and Bungay, the coast and the Norfolk Broads network (boats can be hired at Oulton Broad and Beccles). The fine medieval city of Norwich has a superb market, shopping and entertainment in addition to its famous cathedral, churches, castle and numerous other historical attractions.

The property is very well equipped with everything you need for self-catering .

A good few days in Norfolk

  • 5 of 5

A beautiful cottage, well equipped. In a quiet and pretty location. Easy drive to get to the coast and tourist attractions from the cottage. The owners are helpful and friendly.

I would stay at Granary cottage again if visiting that part of Norfolk.

Lovely stay in Norfolk

Had a lovely stay at Granary Cottage. Very comfortable, well-equipped and everything you could ask for. The location is ideal for visiting Norwich and other nearby towns. The owners were very helpful and friendly.

Lovely cottage

  • 5 of 5

We found the accommodation was excellent in all respects and we had a comfortable and most enjoyable stay. Very well equipped especially the kitchen which had everything one would need. Very pleasant owners who greeted us on our arrival.

The location is very rural and quiet.

Could be better

  • 3 of 5

On arrival it was immediately clear to us from the state of the courtyard - weeds, withered leaves, neglected flowerpots and garden furniture - that the property owners had recently taken little trouble.

In spite of the hot summer weather the cottage had not been aired and thus smelled musty.

Living room, kitchen area and bedrooms are of average standard but perfectly acceptable. In summer especially it is a disadvantage that the window in the upstairs bedroom cannot be left open as it is a skylight.

The bathroom is small and is below the standard expected today, especially as it is almost impossible to use the shower in the bath if you heed the warnings about not getting the walls wet.

To top it all the owners made no attempt to refund any of the deposit for electricity, although our consumption was very low and we were not able to contact them at all on the morning of our departure.

However we enjoyed our stay, mainly because of the quiet location, but there is room for improvement with this cottage.

Owner's Response: It may have been a good idea to have looked more carefully at the photographs of the cottage inside and out before booking as they show the cottage along with the furnishings exactly how it is. It is certainly better equipped than many we have stayed in ourselves. As this is a barn conversion it was not possible to put conventional windows in the upstairs twin bedroom but 2 large good quality skylights with blinds and they can both be opened. I do not state in the details that the cottage has a shower but it does have a hand held shower. I would suggest that if anyone must have a separate shower then it would probably be best to ask if there is one. Nobody has mentioned this before but we intend to redo the bathroom this winter so that a proper stand up shower is installed above the bath. When I met the people staying in the cottage I obviously asked them if everything was ok and they told me that everything was fine . As to the return of the balance of the deposit (£10 to be precise) we certainly were in and heard non one knock on the door (we live next door) and found that they had left before 8 o'clock on the morning of their departure, normally if someone is leaving very early they come and tell us the night before.

Lovely week in Norfolk!

  • 5 of 5

Had a wonderful week in Granary Cottage - delightful base with everything you can wish for! Dishwasher, washer & freeview TV meant it was a hassle-free base to relax. The bedrooms were comfortable and well-equipped, and the conversion as a whole was very well done. Having taken the bikes with us, it was fantastic to be able to use the outhouse to store them securely. With its location and surrounding opportunities a week didn't seem long enough! Finally, our hosts were brilliant and many thanks to them for making out summer!

The property is situated in the Waveney Valley in a very quiet location away from it all but close to the cathedral city of Norwich and the Norfolk Broads where boats can be hired, there are pretty market towns nearby such as Beccles and Bungay and within reach is the beautiful north Norfolk cost.

Other Activities: Hire a boat on the Norfolk broads
