Summer holiday

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely enjoyed our stay and really recommend this place.

The apartment was clean and well equipped (towels, bedclothes, kitchen items, Wifi). The description given above by the owner is very accurate.

The area is nice for walking tours (Dartmoor, Exmoor), we also liked Tiverton Castle and Knightshayes Court. Tennis court and trampoline were fun and the pool will be great when finished.

Best of all are the owner themselves, nice and very helpful people, always having good advice for leisure activities.

We may go again.

An excellent holiday

  • 5 of 5

We were lucky enough to stay at Highfield last October.

We chose it because it would give us the chance to drive to lots of attractive places, plus the pool and animals seemed like a massive bonus for the kids.

We're really pleased we did because it was as good as described online if not better.

The owners Rosie and Giles were very welcoming and more than happy to let us help with the animals when we could and took lots of time to talk to us all and explain everything they were doing.

We had a great time getting the donkeys in and sorting out their food, and we were lucky enough to be given some fresh milk from the cows in the next field and eggs from their own chickens.

We wished we had been there at feeding time every day because it was so nice but we spent a lot of time visiting nearby areas and didn't get back til late.

We managed trips to Watchet, Minehead and Ilfracombe to the North; Exeter, Exmouth, Teignmouth, Torquay and Brixham to the South; and to the South East we visited Sidmouth, Seaton, Lyme Regis (where we found lots of excellent fossils), Weymouth and the very windy Portland Bill.

We don't think we could have packed any more in if we tried, plus Tiverton town centre itself is only a few minutes from Highfield and worth a visit too.

The accommodation itself was great - clean and well maintained, and everything we needed was there. We even had the luxury of the covered swimming pool which we really enjoyed. We didn't manage to get round to a game of tennis on the tennis courts unfortunately but we're sure if Giles had been there he would have thrashed us anyway!

All in all we had a wonderful time and it was a pleasure to meet Rosie and Giles - they couldn't have been any nicer, and the two dogs - Muppy and Matty were adorable.

We would happily recommend it to anybody and would love to go and stay there again sometime.

Owner's Response: We now have an addition of two baby donkeys, called Toby Jug and Mimi, as well as three more pygmy goat kids. Lots more help needed with feeding them all!

Wonderful Holiday at Highfield :o)

  • 5 of 5

We all had a wonderful week at Highfield. The apartment, the pool and all the surroundings were all fantastic. The kids in particular had a fantastic time, helping Giles everyday feed all the animals and they loved cuddling and fussing over Mattie every day (We're not sure Mattie was so keen and probably welcomed the peace & quiet once we'd gone!). All in all, a lovely holiday and a welcome rest. We will definitely return (if Giles & Rosie will have us!). Love Jon, Kathryn, Lucy, Joseph & Emma x

Tiverton is Terrific

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at Highfield and particularly the charming town of Tiverton. We were reminded of some of our favorite towns in The Cotswolds without the tourists. Be sure to take the horse drawn canal barge, and have a latte at their adorable Tea Room. Visit the National Trust property, Knightshayes' magnificent gardens. Though Tiverton is a good jumping off spot to see the West Country, we really enjoyed hanging out in town. Good affordable restaurants (try Gate of India) and a large Morrisons food store. Exmoor National Park, Dunster Castle and Coleridge's Cottage are near by. Its the kind of town we could image making home. Highfield, itself, was wonderful. Rosie's vegetable and flower gardens were fabulous and we enjoyed our daily tennis game surrounded by ducks, geese, chickens, cattle, goats, donkeys and pheasants.

Vakantie 2011

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely week end of August 2010 despite the weather being somehat wet. The pool was great to occupy a six year old (Charlie)and the tennis court was a extra bonus.

Our son loved helping to feed the animals amd Rosie and Giles the owners were friendly hosts but at the same time gave us space.

We would definately visit again in the future. I would say that you would need a car to explore the surrounding area but that being said there is plenty to do in the surounding area.

Hi Giles and Rosie- Happy new year

Tiverton is the largest town in Mid Devon with a population of approximately 17,500 and is situated on the River Exe.

Take a trip to Tiverton Castle and experience life as it was 900 years ago. Built in 1106, the Castle is one of the main tourist attractions of Tiverton.

Knightshayes Court is the striking Victorian mansion and former home of the Heathcoat-Amory family. It is situated slightly North of Tiverton, from where spectacular views of the surrounding Devonshire countryside can be enjoyed. A rare survival of the work of William Burges, flamboyant architect of the late 19th century, this mansion displays a rich mixture of medieval romanticism and lavish decoration. The interiors and contents reveal a fascinating insight into grand Victorian life, and are enjoyed by visitors of all ages.

Bickleigh Mill: Mid Devon's largest, most exciting rural shopping, eating and recreation attraction located on the River Exe at Bickleigh.

Sailing is available at Wimbleball Reservoir.

Other Activities: Canal trips on horse-drawn barge, Diggerland (12m), flying & sky-diving (18m)

Golf: Tiverton Golf Club is fast acquiring a reputation for being one of the best in Devon offering a warm welcome to visitors. If you would like more information please contact the pro, Mike Hawton.

Ski: Skiing and tobogganning are rare activities in Tiverton (about once every 20 years), but when they do take place, they do so from the field opposite!
