Overview

About the property

7 Bedrooms, 5 Full Bathrooms 2 Half BT, Sleeps 12

Our stunningly elegant 17th Century Villa is set on a tiny Tuscan hill; nestled amongst olive groves & cypresses. It has been featured in various journals and books for its significant beauty and architecture. Most importantly known as an extremely enchanted, charming paradise where you can escape to unwind in the warm Tuscan sun while you drink in the culture and relaxing charm of the property. Our magical home offers everything desired while away, although you may choose to explore all the possibilities close by. Your days can be spent relaxing by the pool or on the loggia, eating alfresco, playing a variety of Italian loved games and exercising amongst the gorgeous nature.

This authentic 17th century Tuscan Villa is located between Cortona and Monte San Savino. A previous estate of the Cavalieri di Santo Stefano and the Grand Duke of Tuscany, finally passed to the present owner.

The working estate of five hundred hectares specializes in grain, sunflower, maize and tomatoes, as well as grape vines, olive oil and fruit trees, including peach, pear and apple. We also have riding stables if you wish to board your horse.

The private cypress lined lane leads to the villa, passing through the olive and tartufo groves, riding stables and family chapel. The front looks out onto the estate park filled with wild birds, chestnut, oak and pine trees - organic herb and vegetable gardens with antique rose gardens and lemons. The entire rear of the villa is discretely walled with the pool, gazebo, bar hut, barbecue, limonaia with ping-pong table, change room, washroom and shower.

We will share our favourite secret trattoria, enoteca or villages in the area. Many unforgettable experiences like the local markets, concerts and sagra's which are held every week in surrounding villages. Live life like we do - relax and enjoy everything this gracious culture has to share - art, music, food, wine & local events.

Historical cities such as Arezzo (15km), Arezzo Equestrian Centre (9km), Monte San Savino (8km), Cortona (22km), Pienza (39km), Siena (52km), Florence (70km) and Assisi (85km) are all located within a one hour drive. We are situated on an important historical road and its close proximity to treasured monumental periods of the Etruscan, Roman, Mediaeval and Renaissance make it an ideal base for anyone who would like to explore and enjoy Tuscany.

The home away from home you dream about!

  • 5 of 5

We had the most wonderful stay in Villa Fontarronco! Our first impression was the Villa lit up in the evening and a table set out with candles in the patio surrounded by the stone chapel and the gardens. We were welcomed with a wonderful Aperitivo. The dinner, prepared by the chef, Ida (on request) was delicious, just as everything else she cooked. The breakfasts at the Villa were marvelous, with homemade pasteries and cakes.

Not only the villa, with its gardens and pool is beautiful but the people at the Villa are wonderful. Our hosts, Marcelene and Roberto helped us with all sorts of travel tips for the surrounding area but they also came up with a birthday cake, candles and even a present for our son who celebrated his birthday there. The staff is very helpful and warm. They were very sweet with the 9 children in our group!

As I said, we loved our stay at Villa Fontarronco and sincerely hope to return one day and visit again!

Location

Our home is located in the heart of Tuscany; it is known to be an extremely enchanted and charming paradise. Our magical home offers everything desired while away, although you may choose to explore all the possibilities close by.

We are minutes away from famous wineries & hilltop towns, Etruscan villages, Roman ruins, medival walls, Renaissance architecture, Fortresses, museums and exquisite trattoria's, countless astonishing specialty markets, festivals, concerts and fairs.

The natural beauty of Tuscany with its intense colours and extraordinary energy was inspiration to many artists - we can arrange cooking, art, meditation, yoga, biking, hiking, dancing, bird watching, singing, music, antiquity, history or writing classes.

One of the favourite activities is biking through the countryside and stopping at quaint trattoria's for lunch and wine tasting. Guests can have a specialty lunch or dinner with all the countryside delights prepared for them at our friends local cantina - this is an absolute must!

While at our home you will have the pleasure of experiencing our incredibly fresh unadulterated olive oil. If you wish, we can offer you a tour of the frantoio where the properties olive oil is milled.

We host concerts throughout the summer, either in our private chapel or in the formal gardens. It is possible to arrange a private concert for you if given appropriate advance notice.

Although we no longer have horses at our stables, we can arrange horseback riding with friends - your ride will be through the lovely Tuscan countryside and if you wish you can even stop for a lunch at a castle that overlooks the valley.

Every weekend there are festivals in surrounding villages, some of our favourites are the medieval festivals such as the, "Giostral del Saracen", "Gioco del Pallone Grosso", "The Palio dei Rioni", & "The Giostra dell' Archidado" – each festival is extraordinarily entertaining, educational and simply fun! The towns people come out to cheer on their Quarters - they are undeniably loyal and emotionally devoted; these festivities date back as early as the 1300's.

All villages host Sagra's celebrating ZERO mile (local) food specialties. These Sagra's are great fun and a perfect way to engage with the locals while celebrating their culture. We highly recommend attending one while you visit. The Bistecca (Chiannina steak), Vino, Specialty Pasta's, Cocomero (watermelon), Gnocco dolce (dessert), everything Cingiale (wild bore done grilled, roasted, sausage and ragu of wild bore with fresh made pasta etc.), everything Ocio (duck grilled, roasted and ragu of duck with pasta), sagra of the Crostino (many different varieties of crostini), Struzzo, Tortelli (fresh stuffed pasta), Ribolitta, Ravioli, Pappardelle (type of pasta), Pizza, Tartufo (truffles), Tagliatella (fresh pasta), Gnocchi, Fungo Porcino (everything porcini mushrooms), Pane (everything bread), Pecora (everything sheep), Polenta and Olive Oil are just a few that come to mind. For those less adventurous they offer other local specialties.

There are also specialty concerts held almost everyday in surrounding towns, some of them are gratis or by donation. Opera, strings, chamber, piano, classical, contemporary or traditional are the most common. Typically set in Roman amphitheaters, Villas, Palazzos’ or Castles, they are an unforgettable experience, especially with a full moon.

The town of Arezzo has the most famous Antique Market in all of Italy every first weekend of the month, it has been named as one of the top 10 markets in Europe. Everything of antiquity can be found; art, furniture, jewelery, carpets and clothing.

Surrounding villages have fresh local food, clothing and artisan markets nearly everyday all within a 10-15 minute drive.

One of the most recognizable equestrian center in Italy is located only 10 minutes away from our door, Arezzo Equestrian Center has many different international events throughout the year.

Many hilltop villages within 15 minutes drive, including Cortona, Monte San Savino, Arezzo, Montepulciano, Castiglion Fiorentino, Foiano, Civitella in Valdichiana, Sinalunga and Lucignano with a central town square, museums, art galleries and specialty restaurants and shops.

If your wish is pure relaxation - our home is magical for that. Many of our friends arrive with healthy intentions of exploring all that our region has to offer, however quickly appreciate the enchanted, charming, paradise where they are staying and never have the yearning to venture out. This is the unspoken gentle beauty of our home – it truly offers something for everyone.
