La Gardenia, is a beautiful privately owned estate, close to Es Castell, and only fifteen minutes from Menorca's modern international airport. Our ground floor apartment provides an easily accessible holiday retreat, with excellent views to the front & rear. We have recently refurbished the kitchen & the bathrooms. The accommodation provides 3 bedrooms, two bathrooms & a comfortable dining and lounge area.
The gardens that surround the estate, are maintained to a high standard, as is the swimming pool.
The estate is situated at the entrance of Mahon harbour, and close to the beautiful, small fishing village of Cales Fonts, which has numerous bars and restaurants to enjoy. The capital of Menorca is Mahon, and this is only a short bus ride away, or you could take a water taxi from Cales Fonts. If you really would like to stay put, there are two local bars within 2min walk from La Gardenia, which are very friendly and serve good food to eat in or take back to enjoy at the apartment.
We first stayed in La Gardenia soon after our second daughter was born 27 years ago and had a wonderful holiday. We have been regular visitors with our family ever since, usually staying in No.1. This year we took two of our daughters, their partners, and our 18 month old grand daughter, and it was as good as ever. We've seen many improvements to the complex in general and No. 1 in particular over the years - both bathrooms and kitchen have been tastefully modernised, and there is wifi and satellite TV. The apartment was very clean (recently decorated!), there was some new furniture, and the gardens were the best we have ever seen them (website photos need updating to show the full glory!). There were some nice new restaurants in Calles Fonts this year, and Sol Naciente just up the road (Jose's to the regulars) was about to be re-launched. Yet another great family holiday. Can't wait for next year!
My family and i had the most wonderfull stay at no 1 la gardinia. We highly recomend this apartment to any family looking for a relaxing stay. The apartment is well equiped; clean and comfortable. It is not air conditioned, however, and gets very hot at night. I hogged the only fan, selfishly, maybe a couple more could be put in?. We could eat outside, and utilise the lovely landscaped garden area. ||There is a fantastic bar 3 mins walk away called Bora Bora, and my teenage children 20, 18, and 14 spent most afternoons jumping off the rocks into the sea.
I myself took the ladder, or went to the pool to cool off.I highly recomend this for a relaxing family holiday.
myself and family spent a week at this apartment, which was set in beautiful private gardens, the area of es castell just a walk away, some lovely places to eat and historic places to visit, in the area, car i feel is neccessary if you want to explore surrounding areas or drive into the centre. Lovely aspect from the gardens to watch the ships and boats go by, apartment clean bathrooms very nice, kitchen modern, all round good value for money.Suitable for all ages.
We stayed at La Gardenia in September 2009 and the owners were very helpful with all of our needs and questions, not only concerning the apartment but about the local area and the rest of the island too. The apartment which is situated in a small private gated complex has both permanent residents and holidaymakers. It is spotlessly clean with plenty of towels and bed linen available for the 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms and comfortably accommodated our party of 4 adults and 4 children. There is ample cutlery, crockery and cooking utensils for use with the hob and good sized oven and there is a washing machine, iron and ironing board for those of you, who like me, dont like taking dirty clothes and beach towels home! The gardens and pool area are immaculate and the owners have provided plenty of outside furniture that can be used either around the pool or in the surrounding gardens to take in the fabulous views or like us be fascinated watching the huge ships navigating the channel going to and from the port of Mahon. A few steps outside of the complex is a small shop which amongst other things sells huge hot fresh croissants and pastries which were a must at breakfast time when nobody wanted to cook. Also just a few steps away is a bar/restaurant with friendly English speaking owners who were always very hospitable and were more than happy for the kids to pop up for a quick game of pool. A 10 minute walk from here takes you to the nearest village, reached either by road or by going down a set of wooden stairs onto a boardwalk that appears to float just above the water next to the rock face - very Mumma Mia! The village itself is set around a small harbour/quay with plenty of bars, restaurants and shops for all tastes and pockets. The reason for our visit was to attend a wedding and the English vicar was very welcoming and had a great sense of humour, I would imagine his Sunday services are a riot and he is more than happy for any visitor to join them. This was our first visit to Menorca but it certainly wont be our last as there is so much more to explore on this lovely island and La Gardenia is a perfect holiday base.
This ground floor 3 bed apartment had everything you could need for our stay. The kitchen and bathrooms are fabulous and there was plenty of room in this well cared for and pristine clean home from home. Booking was simple and straightforward and the friendly owners provided top class customer service. The complex was gated and secure and we loved the waterside location and amazing views.
The gardens were immaculate and had plenty of room if you wanted to find a secluded spot to watch the boats going in and out of the harbour. The pool had recently been refurbished to a very high standard. There was also a ladder down into the sea that is very safe to swim in or if like our kids you were feeling brave you could jump in, climb back up on the ladder and do it over and over again-great fun!
There were 2 local bars that did good value for money food as well as a small cornershop that baked bread and croissants in the morning. We would take a daily 10minute walk to Es Castell which had everything we needed including a fabulous deli, newsagent and pharmacy. In the evening we took a leisurely stroll down to Calas Fonts which had a fantastic choice of eateries, small independent shops and lovely little bars. The atmosphere was chilled and laid back and we would often walk back with an ice cream.
We took a few taxi rides into Mahon which has a vibrant cosmopolitan feel about it with all the shops, museums and culture you would expect of a capital. We enjoyed visiting the market and took a walk along the waterfront and saw all the fabulous boats and chose which one we would buy if we won the lottery!
There are lots of scenic walks in all directions from the complex which we really enjoyed especially the old ruins which gave an insight into the interesting and complex history of this tiny island.
Overall we had a wonderful relaxing time, the apartment and gardens were top class, the locals very friendly and Menorca has a refreshing unspoilt feel about it. We can't wait to go back!
The apartment at La Gardenia is situated on the mouth of the entrance to Mahon harbour, Close to Es Castell. There is a small super market and two bar/restaurants close to the site. Es Castell was called George town, when the British had control of the island. In the main square you can still see old cannons, next to the museum, which is well worth a visit. The fortress of La Mola is clearly visible on the other side of the estuary, and again is well worth a visit.
Although you have a small cove (Cala Pedera) close by, you may wish to explore the beautiful beaches, on the south coast of the island, eg Son Bou or Cala Galdana. On the north side of the island Es Grau, a natural reserve area that has a very safe beach and bathing area.
At night, if you ever get bored with walking to Cales Fonts, then why not go to Mahon harbour, and walk along the front, to see the spectacular boats, or take a drink or a meal in the many restaurants or bars.
