About Dean Ellis
My wife and I are retired business owners with two grown daughters who have taken our place. The whole family including brothers and sisters, brother-in-laws, cousins are all involved in our rental homes because we all like to travel and stay in nice places. Our family has been coming to Maine for over a 30 year period. Many times over the years a family member would say... "Now here is the perfect place to come in the summer time" So after much discussion and a few years of planning, here we are. We hope all visitors to our home love Maine the way we do, or learn to love it with their visits. We think Maine has it all, great swimming, boating, fishing, snow skiing, ice fishing, and a rocky coast line with mountains in the background. White snow peaks in the winter, great fall colors, summer flowers, and spring with the sounds of nature. Everything close by and the best seafood we have ever encountered anywhere. Maine! What's not to love? There is something for everyone!!
Dean Ellis purchased this House in 2014
Why Dean Ellis chose Rockland
Our first rental home "Lake House Blue" (ID#333819) has been such a success over the years we thought we would expand our horizons to one of our favorite places to visit...Maine! We think this is New England at its best. Maine has rocky coast lines, expansive water views, mountain peaks in the background and best of all a clear mountain water to swim in right in the backyard. Just like the Maine state slogan says "The Way Life Should Be" is really hitting the nail on the head. Maine is full of warm inviting people who love visitors and appreciate the benefits they bring. There are a lot of local artists with creative talent that are showcased in downtown Rockland. You might see these same artists at the annual Rockland Lobster Festival.
What makes this House unique
We were looking for a large home with a great view, swimming, fishing and kayaking for the summer and ice fishing and ice sailing on the lake in the winter. In the Fall, the view of leaves changing surrounds the house in all directions. Lazy living on a large porch in a hammock or rocking chair overlooking one of the best views in Maine is what Rock Coast Lake House is all about! A comfortable home with updated amenities in the middle of Maine with quick access to great museums and the best seafood in New England with reasonable prices. This is why we came to Maine...the best of the best...The Way Life Should Be!! Come to Rock Coast Lake House, you'll be glad you did!

Great property! Lived up to our expectations as shown on the website.
I almost hesitate to write this review as this property is such a great find, we would like to keep it a secret, as we plan to book again in the future and would like to ensure availability.
Our children and grandchildren spent the week with us earlier in July. The accommodations were perfect for six adults and three children. Kitchen is well equipped and extra refrigerator for lobsters in the garage gave us all the cold storage space we needed. Furnishings inside and out were also well thought out but would suggest additional shelving or small chest of draws in the spacious closets of the smaller bedrooms to facilitate unpacking. King size bed in the master and queens in the three other bedrooms were very comfortable.
The grounds are beautiful and nicely landscaped and the lake was so much fun for swimming, kayaking and paddle boarding. Having the one and two person kayaks available, plus a paddle board, is a big plus. We easily rented a canoe, but it was not really necessary. Fishing was very good especially at night right off the dock. Lake is well stocked. We brought our own fishing equipment but there are also rods and reels on sight. The fire pit at night surrounded by six Adirondack chairs is a fun spot at the end of the day.
Being two miles from the coast is a big plus. In addition to Rockland, Rockport and Camden are only minutes away and they are all beautiful villages with great shops and restaurants. Had one rainy day which was spent at the Children's Museum and the Farnsworth Art Museum, both in Rockland. Farnsworth is a first class museum containing paintings by Andrew Wyeth and other well-known New England artists. We also took a day to drive up to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor. Well worth the trip.
Dean and Amy Ellis were most helpful and in partnership with VRBO/Home Away everything was handled professionally without anything to be concerned about. Again, this is a great find!
Thank you for a great review. We try very hard to give our guest the very best experience possible. We also take everything they tell us to heart. It is hard to anticipate all the needs of our guest, but we think we have a very good idea on what most of those needs are. Our family loves their vacations and we love lots of details that can make a vacation even more enjoyable. It is our hope that we can provide the kind of accommodations that will enhance that enjoyment and create an environment for fun, relaxation and rest. We love Maine and are very happy to share our little slice of heaven with guest who feel the same as we do.......Thank you for your rental and come back soon......
The property was spectacular with awesome 360 degree views.
Great stay both inside and out. Lots of activities for both. Would recommend and stay here again.
Very nice, great views, lovely welcome package and area info
This was a great house for our team to gather after a long days at a convention near by. Unfortunately, the weather and our other time commitments kept us from enjoying all the amenities offered.
The only thing that kept it from 5 stars was the road noise from busy Route 17 that starts early in the morning!
Beautiful Lake House on the Lake
We love this place. It is our second summer staying at the Rock Coast Lake House. We are originally from Maine and have returned every summer for the past 30 years. Four years ago, we sold our family lake house on Brandy Pond where we had spent our last 15 summer vacations. We looked for a place to rent and were fortunate enough to find this property last year. The owners Dean and Amy, are very nice and accommodating. The house is modern and is perfectly situated for fun on the water and roaming around town. When we were not kayaking, golfing or fishing, we were exploring the antique shops, craft breweries and restaurants in the Rockland area. The huge wrap around porch with rocking chairs is a wonderful place start the day with your morning coffee. And the fire pit on the expansive lawn leading down to the lake, was a perfect gathering spot at the end of the day. Now with my daughter and niece in college, we hope to align our schedules so we can return next summer to a place our families have come to cherish. Thank you.
Thank you for a great review...
Brandy Pond is a tough act to follow. It is so beautiful in the Naples area of Maine. We are so pleased you picked our Mid-Coast area as your new home base. We get a few ex-Mainers every year who come back to the state they love and some who grew up here. Maine is not a place you can forget about because of all of the possibilities that avail themselves here. Who can forget the scenery, or the food. Better yet where can find a place where the locals are so friendly and accommodating...
We love having your family as our guest......
Fun on the Lake
Great location , close to everything
We rented bikes and biked to town everyday. We also rented more paddle boards so we could all enjoy the lake
We went to vinelhaven island and swam in the quarry which was such a great experience. We rode our bikes all around the island and also visited many beaches close to rockland and swam in the ocean- which was cold
The lake house was great and we really enjoyed kayaking, paddle boarding and swimming in the lake.
The water is warmer then the ocean so much nicer. We loved the fire pit at night and the large grounds with fruit trees.
I know many guest mentioned the road noise, but I am very sensitive to noise and I slept fine so it didn't bother me at all.
There is so much to do- a great place to stay.
Thanks again for letting us stay at your home.
Thank you for a great review. You guys riding bikes everyday to everywhere is a new idea that we haven't seen before and is very impressive. A trip on the ferry over to Vinalhaven with bikes sounds like a lot of fun.
When you booked your vacation with us you said that your family does a bike trip somewhere in the country every year and ride bikes the whole time.
We are so very pleased you picked Maine and our Rock Coast Lake House as your home base this year. You have opened our eyes to new possibilities that we had not considered before. ...
Thank you for sharing this new perspective with us.....It is a trip for us to remember as well...
Beautiful home! Amazing amenities!
We spent a week at Rock Coast Lake House in August. It was so welcoming from the moment we entered. Lovely gifts left by the owners including personal toiletries! The beds were super comfortable. The kitchen was great to spend time in cooking and hanging out with our party of 10. I'd have to say the deck was my favorite part-coffee in the morning and cocktails in the evening. The view was spectacular. We all loved the kayaks and paddle board. The lake was super clean! LOVED the fire pit and Adirondack chairs! We spent time in nearby Rockland, Camden and did a day trip to Acadia. Overall it was a wonderful experience. The owners were a pleasure to deal with and every question and comment was handled immediately and with a friendly , personal touch. My reason for 4 stars was just that although the home is entirely secluded you can hear traffic from the busy main road. Even with that, I highly recommend this property!!
Thank you for a great review. We are so glad that you and your family had a good time at our Rock Coast Lake House. You seem to have found a lot of the great spots in the area. Maine has something for everyone and we glad your vacation went well and you enjoyed your time in the Mid Coast. ....
Rock Coast Lake House is located about 2 miles from downtown Rockland. Rockland is a nice size town on the ocean overlooking Penobscot Bay with great restaurants, (like Primo) 6 museums (the Farnsworth, Transportation museum, Children museum, the Lighthouse museum, and opening 2016 the New Modern Museum,) a working waterfront, with great tourist shopping and speciality shoppes. Rockland itself is located in the center of the Mid-Coast halfway between Portland and Bar Harbor on the ocean route 1. Close to mountains, forest, and endless bays and rocky coastline. Great seafood everywhere, including Lobster, Clams, Haddock, Salmon, Oysters, Crab, Cod and large variety of local seafood dishes. Our house is close to exploring all of Maine from a central location. When rest time comes you have swimming, kayaking, fishing, porch rocking, hammock swinging and nice lawn with a large natural garden and fire pit. Grilling on the porch or cooking lobster in the pot, both are great for leisurely lakeside living. Camden, Boothbay Harbor and Bar Harbor are not far away. Our location right off US 17 puts us less than a hours drive to Augusta where two other great museums are located ( The Maine State Museum and the Fort Western Museum )....A .turn left out of our driveway takes you past the Rockland Golf Club on your way to Town...
