Overview

Photos and Description of this 4 bedroom holiday farmhouse in Saint-Étienne-la-Cigogne - La Cigogne

4 Bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, sleeps 8 more than comfortably. Near St Jean d'Angely

La Cigogne is an old, yet charmingly restored, farmhouse set in 1/2 acre of ground with barn, outbuildings and a secluded 10m x 5m swimming pool all for your exclusive use. The property, which sleeps 8 more than comfortably, is located in St Etienne La Cigogne, a peaceful hamlet, in the Charente-Maritime 10 miles from St Jean d'Angley. La Rochelle and the coast with its sandy beaches are only 40 minutes away. There are plenty of activities in the area such as horse riding, boating, canoing, tennis, the sea and golf combined with a wealth of sight-seeing opportunities all within easy driving distance. Shopping is a must particularly in Niort, La Rochelle, Cognac and St Jean d' Angley where there are many local restaurants bars and cafes. The nearest village, Villeneuve-la-Comtesse, is less than a mile away where you can purchase most essential items. But why not just relax by your own pool and enjoy La Cigogne and all that it has to offer!

Hazy Days of June.

  • 5 of 5

Just as described in the title, a wonderful little house in a rural location. Nothing other than the birds and Crickets to disturb your relaxation. Although the weather wasn't great on all our days, we had plenty to go at in the area. Plenty of seafood fresh each day, and plenty of local wine to wash it all down with. A trip to Cognac is a must, and will enable you to see and experience the local area a little more. On returning to the house, ensure you are armed with plenty of fresh bread, cheese and wine, a selection of meats to bar b que and you are surely set to enjoy an evening of unhurried pleasure beside the pool.

The owners have done a lovely job to create a very comfortable home for you to borrow, with comfy beds and ample seating. There is plenty of hot water, if you need it, a great kitchen with all the gadgets to make your stay as easy as possible.

If you hadn't guessed we had a simply great time, and we're very sorry to leave.

One other thing, if you just can't cope without the internet, they even have that too!

Happy holidays!

Farmhouse in perfect location with great setup

  • 5 of 5

We had a party of 2 families including 4 adults and 3 teenagers. The property is a really good size and was easily large enough to accommodate everyone. All rooms were very well furnished and decorated to a really good standard. It's fabulously kitted out throughout, so very comfortable. The outside area is very secure, with the pool area in its own courtyard, so it's very private and safe. Perfect to relax in the good climate. The pool was spotless and clearly well maintained. It's also very well equipped, with plenty of comfortable loungers, outside dining facilities etc. If you go once, you will want to go back. We have already booked again for next year. Really can't fault it.

Absolutely perfect

  • 5 of 5

My family and I have just returned from a perfect 2 weeks at the farmhouse. The property and setting are actually much better than the pictures portray. The house itself is very spacious, with plenty of things provided to make the holiday enjoyable - such as DVD's, games, Sky TV etc. The gardens are much bigger than you can see on the website too, including a lovely gravelled drive and garage. Within easy drives are small and larger supermarkets and nice restaurants etc. Plenty of English spoken in the area too which helps with our pigeon French. There were 5 of us in the family, and a dog, and all had a super time. We may even book again. The owners and caretakers also very nice too! (oh, and great weather!)

Excellent Property very rural and quiet. Brilliant owners very helpful and informative. Pool not heated but not needed as it was generally above 23 C. Everything you need for a quiet relaxing holiday. We went with family of 4 put could comfortably sleep double that. Overall would definitely recommend.

Thanks Very much

There are a host of activities and things to do in the area including:

St Jean d'Angely - located 12 miles away is a charming medieval town with a busy market twice a week. It has a wide range of shops, cafes and dozens of restaurants. Niort - Originally a Gallic village snuggled in a bend in the river on the banks of the River Sevre 14 miles away, the town has kept the traces of its glorious history intact. It is a commercial town with many different businesses and the Baltard style market hall, which shelters a very lively covered market. La Rochelle - The best way of seeing La Rochelle is to stroll along the quay sides of the old harbour and through the network of pedestrian streets. It is obvious from the old timbered houses and private mansions that the source of La Rochelle's splendour has always been the sea. Shops and restaurants abound and should be combined with a visit to the nearby beaches. The Atlantys pool complex - in St Jean d'Angely is open 7 days a week.

The pool is equipped with an alarm system, which complies with the recent much tighter French law. It will detect anyone entering the pool even a baby and the alarm can be heard from anywhere in the farmhouse and beyond. It is very easy to turn on and off, is child proof, and is self-alarming after one minute of inactivity in the pool.
