Romantic & tranquil location in the Ancient Village of Fornalutx

The ‘Sótano’ - originally wine and olive oil cellars – has just been converted into a large, 75sq m, 1 bedroom apartment. Its original features of vaulted sandstone ceilings and hand cut stone walls have been preserved.

Calle Alba runs from the ancient wash place, below the town hall, towards the Post office. The street is made up of large elegant houses, their gardens and orchards sweep down to the river. Although only a minute’s walk from the square this is a very quiet and tranquil street with no traffic. The Sótano entrance is in the side street, opposite the old wash place. Entering down a few steps you are astonished to find a magnificent 45 sq.m, open plan main living space. French windows leading onto a private patio,shared garden and pool, cast a wonderful light throughout. There is a fully equipped modern kitchen, and a wood burning fireplace for romantic winter sojourns. Leading off this main room is a large 25sq meter double bedroom with en-suite bathroom.

The property consists of a large Senorial house where the owner, recently widowed, lives most of the year on her own, she is a film director and writer. The Sótano is the ground floor of the house next door but leads onto the beautiful large garden and orchard. There is a private patio leading off the Sótano living room with dining table and chairs, plus loungers There is also a raised terrace facing west to catch the evening rays. The pool, 8x4 meters is shared with the owner. Tenants are asked to sunbathe in their own patio or the sunset terrace but welcome to swim in the pool at any time.

The charming Port Soller, and its beaches are a 10 minute drive from the village. There is a local bus service between Fornalutx, Soller and Port Soller. Also a delightful tram that runs from the centre of Soller to the port. For further information Look up Fornalutx and Soller on the internet. There are tennis courts and a full sized Olympic swimming pool 3km towards the port.

I have had a house or several houses in this village and valley for the past 46 years. After my husband passed away I sold a farm we had and bought this beautiful town house and restored it converting the old wine cellars into the apartment.

The large abundant gardens look onto the mountains, it is incredibly quiet, one gets the best of both worlds, country atmosphere but 2 minutes to the little square and cafes.

A wonderful haven....

We spent a glorious week staying in this cosy apartment. The place really is idyllic and Gabrielle, the owner was extremely gracious- always around if we needed anything but never intrusive.

Her pets were highly entertaining and we grew fond of the gorgeous cats very quickly (having left our three at home!). The apartment has everything you need and was a real home from home for us.

Fornalutx is the most wonderful, unspoilt village up in the mountains- we came to Mallorca for the first time with no real expectations and were absolutely blown away by its beauty and the spectacular scenery at every turn. We will definitely be back just as soon as we can escape the humdrum again! We arrived home feeling thoroughly refreshed. (The only downside was that we didn't get to use the lovely pool as it was just a little too cold, but that means we'll just have to go back and sample in the summer!).

The "Perfect" Retreat

Often, when you read reviews, you are impressesed by the comments. You go ahead and book the accommodation but when you get there, you are slightly disappointed. Not so with this wonderful setting, the first class accommodation and the unforgettable ambience.

Everything about this special place leaves a lasting impression from the beauty of the town, to the friendliness of the people you meet, to the excellent hospitality shown by Gabrielle. The friendly cats were a bonus!

We heartily compliment Gabrielle for her vision in transforming what used to be a humble olive cellar into the most charming, artistic, romantic and homely haven for two.

We cannot recommend this holiday venue highly enough and we look forward to repeating our experience in the near future.

Six days in heaven.

Nothing can prepare you for the shere beauty of the location. Its extra delight is that it could almost be in a world of its own but is in fact in the heart of the most beautiful village in Mallorca.

The garden is shared with the most hospitable landlady and facilities nearby are superb.

What a find!

We'd unreservedly recommend this property, the village and the area for a relaxing break in the sun. The property is a hidden gem; very comfortable, clean and spacious. The private terrace with access to garden and pool is fantastic, particualry as you have the beautiful mountains as a back drop. The English owner has lived in the area for many years and is very helpful in giving advice about places to visit.

The village is lovely. Numerous restaurants and bars, and a couple of good local shops. It's a great centre for walking with any number of well signed walks through out the valley. It was rather too hot to do a lot of this when we were there, but we hope to return just off season when it's a bit cooler to explore even more.

The town of Soller is within walking of the village and Soller port is a 15 min' drive. Both are lovely. Lots of character, great shops and restaurants and port Soller remains a quaint and unspoilt port that's great to visit in the evening for a meal and a strole.

However, where ever we'd been for the day, it was always a pleasure to return to our "oasis" in Fornalutx, sit under the huge palm on the terrace and stare at the mountains, drink in hand.

A beautiful retreat

This is a lovely apartment which has been converted to a very high standard and is very well equipped both in the kitchen and with TV, DVD equipment etc..

It is very close to the few shops and restaurants in the village though it is very tranquil as it is away from the road.

The views of the mountains are absolutely wonderful at all times of the day.

There is a small terrace for the apartment which looks out onto the owner's lovely garden.

I would recommend this for anyone who wants to get away from it all but also likes to stroll to the few bars or restaurants in the very traditional Mallorquin village.

I believe this would be a good place to be at any time of the year.

Relaxing holiday with all home comforts

We had a wonderful week. What a Fantastic location and a very well appointed apartment with all the comforts of home.The mountain views as I swam up and down the pool were stunning. We found the property easily with the clear instructions given and had no problems finding a parking space in the car parks all week which were literally just round the corner. We were delighted with the apartment and gifts of wine and oranges from the trees in the garden on our arrival. The property was spotlessly clean with many towels, t towels, washing up liquid etc etc not always found in other villas we have stayed in. We fell in love with the soppy cats and would recommend this holiday to any couple looking for peace and quiet in a village with a great atmosphere and good eating places.Great for walking as well but too hot when we visited so perhaps when we return, which we hope to do soon, we will be more adventurous. Thanks to Gabrielle and Penny for making everything so easy , for sharing their peaceful haven and for being so welcoming. See you again!

The village has 7 restuarants, 3 bars, 2 boutiques, supermarket, bread shop, 3 hairdressers, 2 banks and a Pharmacy. 2 km away, Sóller is probably the most attractive town outside of Palma. It is about a half hour walk from Fornalutx, there is a local bus service between Fornalutx, Soller and Port Soller. The charming Port of Soller, it's marina, restaurants, shops and beaches are a 10 minute drive from the village. There is also a delightful tram that runs from the centre of Soller to the port. For further information look up Soller and Fornbalutx on the internet There are tennis courts and a full sized Olympic swimming pool 3km towards the port. Also a local tennis court in Fornalutx. Boat rental is available and tour boats run from the Port up and down the beautiful coast to La Colbra, Tuent and Andratx.

This absolutely charming space has just been converted. All fittings, fixtures and appliances are new. The large living area is 45 sq. meters with large french doors leading onto a private patio. The bedroom and bathroom are 25 sq.meters. It is very cool in the summer and fans are provided. In the winter there is a wood burning stove and radiators in both rooms. There are 8 steps down from the side street into the Sótano. The apartment itself is all one level leading onto the patio and garden. There is also a separate side entrance through the garden with only 2 steps from the street. There are 3 steps down to the pool area. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE OWNER, LIVING NEXT DOOR, HAS 3 BURMESE CATS, THEY ARE NOT ALLOWED IN THE APARTMENT BUT DO GO IN THE GARDEN. IF YOU ARE ALLERGIC OR DON'T LIKE CATS DON'T BOOK
