About the property

Elegant Luxurious and Romantic traditional house with sea and mountain views

Nestled away in a quiet area of the enchanting mountain village of Asklipio, this is a unique traditional stone built property with a very modern twist.

This elegant village house has been lovingly renovated by its current owners to provide comfortable and stylish accommodation. New for 2018 we have an arrangement with a nearby hotel that guests of our house can use their outdoor facilities which comprise of lush gardens surrounding a spectacular pool (both kids and adult) and a toddler play area. Also a delicious snack bar serving all the traditional greek delicacies. The hotel is located a short 2km from our house.

This really is something special. Just inland from Kiotari, up a winding mountain road, is the village of Asklipio which maintains traditional Greek life.

Every Saturday the tradition of fresh baked bread is kept, and you will find all the old ladies baking their bread in their outdoor wood burning ovens.

The village also boasts the oldest Christian church still in use on the island which was founded in the 11th century AD. The village has its own museum, supermarket & cafes.

Only 2km down the mountain you will find the resort of Kiotari and the vast expanse of beach, restaurants, shops.

Golf: Afandou Golf Club is about 40 min drive. Club and cart rental is available. 18 hole green fees are around 35 Euro in the Season.

Walking Holidays: A paradise for keen ramblers; directly behind the house are some beautiful walks. Also popular with cyclists.

Something Special:

This traditional home has such charm and character with stunning views of the valley and the sea.

We have taken great care and pride in what we have achieved in a village that has not been spoiled by developers trying to build the next luxury hotel.

You definitely will experience the real Greek way of life here. The house is in a quiet and serene area of the village known as The Vrisi, which translates to the faucet, as there is a fresh-water source that runs from the mountains continuously and the water is ice cold and drinkable. The locals use it to refresh themselves and believe the water has many healing qualities.

*There is also free unlimited wireless internet access throughout the house.

Kiotari is fast becoming one of Rhodes most stylish resorts. Full of natural life and beautiful unspoilt beaches. Kiotari also has some of Rhodes' most stylish bars and restaurants....Shimba's, known for the best cocktails on the island and exotic entertainment, and also the best known traditional restaurant 'Mourella' where you will find the best steak on the island along with a unique list of local dishes. There are plenty of shops in the nearby shopping centres. Located only a short drive away from Lindos this location is perfect as its away from the madding crowd.

The village of asklipio is located 2km up the mountain and gives a totally different feel from the main Kiotari resort. Here in the village you will feel part of Greek life and can often hear the goats trotting past your front door.

Mandolin Retreat

  • 5 of 5

My sister and I had a wonderful 10 day stay at the Mandolin. We are older travellers and non drivers too. The Mandolin was perfect for our needs, which was total relaxation! The property is lovely and had everything we needed. However, some of the furnishings might benefit from an update (patio chairs, cushions/throws) & the washing machine leaked, so out of use. This was due to be prepared and wasn't a problem at all for us. Stergos, the owner, was in contact frequently & had a family member that supported us with a couple of things. I would certainly recommend a car to get the best experience of the area but locals will stop and give lifts down to Kiotari and back. Just stand at the waiting points and wave at the cars. Some tourists may not be aware of this custom and may not stop, we were lucky. The locals will get to know who you are and will stop for you, it's wonderful. The villagers are amazing & are so friendly & helpful. We ate almost every night at Nikolas Taverna and chatted with the locals every day. We also used the pool at the hotel at the bottom of the hill, an arrangement with them for guests at the Mandolin. We didn't really use the beach but it had some limited facilities. If you want to experience Greek mountain village life, then the Mandolin is for you. I would definitely go back and the villagers would welcome us with open arms for sure.

Beautiful house on a lovely island.

  • 5 of 5

This is a lovely little house which would suit a couple or small family. You need a car for this part of Rhodes. Interior design of this place is beautiful and the owner, Stergos, is a really helpful and friendly guy. The village is very friendly, as was everyone we met in Rhodes. The islanders virtually all speak English and are warm people. Beautiful beaches nearby - you can find quiet places or busier tourist areas all within a short drive. This is a great base from which to explore the island. Highly recommended.

An Ideal Combination

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at The Mandolin twice already in October 2012 and 2015. It really is an ideal combination for everyone looking for a small glimpse into traditional Rhodes village life but still wants to enjoy all the amenities. The cottage has a very romantic yet modern atmosphere and offers a perfect location just at the lower village border. So you get to enjoy great views from the terrace & this is great for sunny breakfasts or romantic evenings, while indoors offers all the creature comforts. Our daughter (12 years during our first stay) loved the high bed above the wardrobe and the mattress is comfy. The two bedrooms are also very nice with quirky features while the spacious living room is a great place to spend the evenings....it´s really as stunning as it looks in the photos. The cottage is situated in a quiet pedestrian lane but parking is just around the corner.

Asklipio is perfectly situated so you can choose between hiking in the hills, exploring the village & castle or just taking a very short drive to Kiotari (Pebble) Beach (sunloungers with sunshades are for hire) which is idyllic (& great for snorkeling!) but still offers a choice of superb Restaurants. A few miles down the road you will find the more busy resort beaches in case you are looking for sand and a bit more of busy beach life.

A lot of Rhodes tourist highlights are also within easy reach. Lindos is highly recommended but also Rhodes city or visiting Monolithos on the east coast are easily manageable during day trips.

We hugely enjoyed our stay at the Mandolin, Stergos is a perfect host and we definitely plan to return during the coming years.

It Doesn't Get Any Better than This

  • 5 of 5

This is a very sweet property in a wonderful location. Gorgeous views from the terrace.... totally peaceful.... perfect location to enjoy the beach and explore the island. Stergos answered answered all our questions and more before our arrival and provided a very helpful information packet. We would not hesitate to come back to The Mandolin again. It was perfect!

Rhodes off the beaten track

  • 4 of 5

We stayed two weeks in this beautifully decorated house (thumbs up for the interior decorator). We were somewhat apprehensive about visiting Rhodes in the season's peak, but we were so pleasantly surprised!!! We feel so blessed for having visited this ancient village and met its people. For a family of six with three small children ranging from 1 to 6 years of age, the house had everything we needed. The kids enjoyed the nooks and crannies of the walls, the platform bed, the circular arrangement. For some days, we even had two more persons living with us, and while the space is very smartly organized and fits all, it is not the best house if you are looking for privacy: rooms flow into each other and storage is somewhat problematic, although there is plenty of it. But that is only because the house has been refurbished to its traditional characteristics so faithfully that as all old things it is not 100% practical. But for whoever appreciates history, taste, romantic moments, and poetic dinners under the stars, look no further.

I particularly feel blessed for having met the locals, participated with them in their local celebrations, benefited from their insight in Rhodes' hinterland (breathtakingly beautiful!).

Do not miss going horsebackriding with Elpida, hiking in the mountains behind the village, exploring local food, and talking to everyone you meet on the street. Asklipio is a very special and unique community.

One suggestion for the owners: we would not mind paying a cleaning fee to have the house professionally cleaned, but we understand it might not always be easy to arrange in such a small community...

Sonnige Novembertage in sehr schönem Dorfhaus

  • 4 of 5

Absolut empfehlenswert.
