Charming 4 bedroom traditional Normandy house set in the heart of Varengille-sur-Mer, famous for its high wooded banks, beautiful gardens, and dramatic coastline so well depicted in Monet's paintings.The house is walking distance of village shops and beach. Exposed beams and wooden flooring throughout give the house much character. It is well appointed, has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms one en-suite (1 bathtub, and 2 showers) each with WC. It has a bright, well equipped conservatory kitchen with table and chairs, a comfortable living room/dining area with fireplace and French windows opening onto a large south facing terrace. There is seating for 8 people inside and on the terrace. The two double bedrooms upstairs have their own bathrooms and both have attractive views over the garden.The 2 ground floor bedrooms - 1 double 1 twin - share a bathroom and WC. All rooms have cupboard space.The house is surrounded by a pretty garden with many fruit trees and a sizeable lawn ideal for games and relaxation.

About Helen and José

We bought this property as our family holiday home in France. We have four grown-up children and we wanted to have a comfortable and welcoming holiday house for ourselves, our children, grandchildren and their friends.. We love walking along the beach and in the glorious surrounding countryside and the secluded terrace and garden provide the ideal setting for relaxation with family and friends.

Why Helen and José chose Seine-Maritime

The house is fully furnished and equipped as a family home with all modern facilities chosen for practicality and comfort for the use of a family with children or friends in a practical and relaxed atmosphere. As this is a family home, it retains a family feel with pictures and books left in place and a French touch. With three bathrooms, a large veranda breakfast kitchen, a separate sitting and dining room, a separate terrace with seating for eight and other seating in the garden, the house provides a large degree of comfort and a variety of arrangements for separate meals particularly welcome by children and grown-ups alike. The secluded garden provides ample opportunity for small children to explore and play in a secure environment. There is also parking for three cars on the property. Finally, the beach is only 15 minutes away, on foot or by car with free parking facilities.

What makes this house unique

The property is ideally set on the edge of a charming historic village, in a quiet rural environment by the sea. Excellent daily shopping is made on foot in Varengeville for food and international papers while and serious purchases of all sorts are within 15 minutes by car in neigbouring Offranville and Dieppe.

Beyond the practicality of the house arrangements and location for easy day to day living, it is the beauty of the seascape and the amazing walks and other activities, including gourmet food and wine, in the area that made the house a compelling choice for us. Finally for keen visitors, historic Rouen is only 45 minutes away. And for a day visit, the Normandy beaches and Paris are only 2 hours away.

Lovely house, great location

We were a party of seven, five adults and two children aged six and four and we all had a very enjoyable week here. An ideal location for exploring this part of France which is now one of our favourite places to visit.

The house is beautiful, full of character and charm and very comfortable with a well equipped kitchen which overlooks the garden and is a pleasure to use!

The house is situated in a lovely village location which has all amenities including a great patisserie, supermarket etc. and a good restaurant. A short walk (one of many) to a local beach or a 5 min drive. Again, great location for exploring this part of Normandy.

The owners were very helpful and very obliging. We would certainly recommend this property to others.

a little paradise

This house is perfect to live there !

It is very tastefully furnished. All rooms have homely wooden floors. Everything is clean and well-tended. The kitchen is very big and like a winter garden. Cooking there makes fun !

The garden is very big like a small english park. We could spent a lot of hours on the terrace because of the good weather.

The contact to the landlords was very fast, harmonious and unproblematic.

Our stay there was one of the best we ever had in France !

Distance to the proper coast is 1,8 km and at low tide we could take a bath every day. Except on monday we could every day buy our baguette, salad, cheese and meat at the small shops 800m away.

We can suggest this house !

A great place to stay, charming and authentical

My family and I enjoyed a week at this place and enjoyed it a lot. First of al the house itself. The house is very well maintained without losing it's original character. The owners did a great job in combining the normandy character with al the facilities required nowadays.

The interior is very charming and comfortabele. The house has a very warm atmosphere with a great eye for detail.

Furthermore, the garden is beautifull. In the eventing the yasmin in the garden spreads a very nice scent on the terrace.

The bedrooms are spacious and leaves enough room for some privacy, if needed. Furthermore it is very convenient that all bedrooms have their own bathroom. Especially when travelling with seven.

The kitchen is also spacious and very well equipped. If you like mayor cooking, the kitchen is very suitable.

The surroundings are also very beautifull. A perfect match between beach and inland. Do not forget to visit the gardens in the very near area. varengeville is very central located. It is rural, but also near to dieppe and other bigger places. But do not forget to visit the local boulanger and butcher.

The house owners are defined by the true definition of hospitality. The correspondence via email was to be expected, but I appriciated it highly that they contacted me a week before departure to ensure the last details and give me a lot of information in respect of the house and area. Also on the day of arrival, the owner called me to ask if everything was ok.

So, I hope that after reading this review, you are as much enthousiastic about this place as we are. We absolutely reconsider another visit.

Le charme et le confort

Un séjour vraiment très agréable, dans cette maison très confortable, où rien ne manque . Le jardin est magnifique , surtout en cette semaine de printemps , la cuisine est un vrai bonheur , comme si nous étions en pleine nature , je ne peux que recommander un séjour dans cette belle demeure dans le très beau village de Varengeville , où les promenades spectaculaires sont nombreuses .

Tranquil family holiday

We were a family of four (two boys, 6 & 4) with one other adult. It was the second time we stayed in the house and we would certainly return. The main points that stood out for us were:

- excellent overall cleanliness

- feel of sharing a family home, i.e. a well stocked kitchen that we felt able to borrow from and replenish

- very professional approach from Helen and Jose with friendly advice of where to go

- fantastic garden for running around and sundowners

- access to the beach (better by car as a long walk for small people with limited pavement), but a great relatively quiet beach with rock pools, swimming and lovely walks to neighbouring coves

- easy walk to the village where the patisserie serves the BEST flan and tarte Normande, the butcher does a fantastic merguez sausage and the people in the super market are incredibly friendly

- great location with lots to see and do: the beachfront play areas for kids dottted along the coast were brilliant (Pourville, Veules les Roses, etc)

A great quiet and calm rental with all that's needed and very friendly service. Merci, Helen et Jose!

Lovely holiday rental

We spent a wonderful week in Varengeville. The house is so well placed and only 2 hours from Calais.

The house is lovely, everything you needed was there. Great location - 5 mins drive to an amazing beach, 5 mins walk into the village where there is an artisan bakery and all the other shops you need.

We explored the village including the gardens of Bois de Moutiers, did lots of day trips along the coast, and ventured further to Rouen and Paris.

Owners very friendly and helpful in the run up to the rental. I will be definitely recommending this house to all my friends!

House within walking distance of beautiful pebbly/sandy beach. Beach clean and uncrowded, ideal for children with all its rockpool activities, swimming and kite-flying. At low tide wonderful walking in both winter and summer and dramatic scenery for painting. Walking distance from famous Bois des Moutiers flower garden designed by Gertrude Jekyll, and the church on the cliff with Braque stained windows. Riding stables and scenic golf course short drive away.

Cathedral town and fishing port of Dieppe 9 km away offer many attractions. Popular traditional market Saturday mornings, waterfront restaurants and cafés line the old port and fresh fish can be bought daily straight from 'la criée'. Charming pedestrian shopping street in the centre with many boutiques. Supermarkets on the periphery of town. Activities include sailing, fishing, motor-boat hire, and spa with large swimming pool.

A 45 min drive to historical Rouen and day-trips possible to D-Day beaches and Bayeux tapestry.

Other Activities: historical castles, good restaurants nearby, spa and go-karting in Dieppe.

Notes:
The house has character with wooden flooring throughout and beamed ceilings. The house is comfortable and bright. In the kitchen the fridge has a small freezer compartment. The Washer/dryer is kept in the basement and there is a separate drying machine. The house is surrounded by a garden with many fruit trees and a sizeable lawn, ideal for games such as badminton . The property is enclosed by hedges and fencing and the outside gate makes it reasonnably safe for young children although we advise to keep them under close supervision at all times. There is room for 3 cars to park off road in the driveway. The spacious south facing terrace is equipped with outdoor all weather teak table for 8, parasol and eight teak dining chairs. A small electric barbecue is available on request.
