Penrhyn Mawr/Castaways is an 18th Century Welsh longhouse situated in private grounds on the beautiful Island of Anglesey near to the Menai Strait. The property, formally a restaurant, has been tastefully restored and converted into two beautiful holiday Cottages. Both Cottages enjoy all modern conveniences whilst remaining full of character. My family home. An 18th Century Welsh longhouse. Three generations and much loved.
Mrs Clare Brockley purchased this cottage in 1959
Unique location, a mile from the Menai Strait. Great views, and perfect peace and quiet. Far from the hustle and bustle of everyday living yet convenient for the beautiful local beaches and tourist attractions.
Warm and friendly welcome and a determination to make your holiday a great one.
As well as the peace and quietthe cottage offers everything that we need and its a joy to come home to each day. After a warm welcome from Clare we quickly settled into the pavce of life and will definitely be looking to return. The nearby beaches are lovely, especially Rhosneigr and Aberfraw.

Ideally located traditional country cottage, in beautiful and peaceful surroundings, short driving distance to local amenities.
The cottage was clean, well maintained, fully furnished with facilities to meet all needs.
First class communication from owner, providing details and directions prior to our stay.
Definitely recommend whether for short and long stays.....you will love it!
The cottage is a total gem, and the owners could not have been more welcoming. Just so very, very nice to arrive and be able to sit and relax straight away with a plate of home made cakes and a pot of tea ...
So good not to have to rush out for that forgotten item for everything we could need was there, and the sofas were comfy, the armchair was a readers delight and the bed was just right ...
We walked in the surrounding countryside admiring our wild companions from pheasant to red kites, we drove to wild beaches with not a soul other than ourselves in sight, we cooked home grown food from the farms nearby, we talked by the fire and listened to the owls ... and we came home rested and refreshed
This summer we had a wonderful week in Penrhyn Mawr cottage. The cottage was very clean and tidy and really felt like a home from home.
We enjoyed the sunshine in the garden or visited towns, castles or beaches nearby. We especially liked Beaumaris and Penrhyn Castle.
The owners were very friendly and helpful.
This was a delightful cottage will everything of a very high spec. It was so isolated and quiet that we ended our week's holiday feeling like we had been there for much longer. The rest was fantastic. You do need a car though as it is very much out on its own in the countryside surrounded by nothing but cows, rabbits and grouse! The owners were extremely welcoming and had left cake and tea ready for us on our arrival. A homely touch which was very much appreciated. We would recommend this property to anyone wishing to enjoy a quiet and peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
If you’re looking for a remote cosy farm cottage to relax in which is fully equipped then look no further? The Castaways has all you want and more. The location is perfect for those looking to escape the rat race and enjoy the tranquillity of the Welsh countryside. If it’s high tech modern living you desire you’re on the wrong web site. There's no Broadband, WiFi, HiFi, Massive flat screen TV, Surround Sound, Xbox, Wii, Facebook Blah,Blah!........It's good old fashioned honest living with fresh air and stunning views. It's heavenly! (There is limited mobile phone coverage in case of emergency though)
As a family of four with a dog to accommodate we required something special for our Christmas and New Year holiday, and boy did we find it. So much so we’ve already booked for next year. We arrived in the dark with three inches of snow on the ground and were given a warm and friendly welcome by the owners Clare and Rai. We entered the farm cottage to be greeted with the smells of festive cheer from the seasonal flower display to the simmering mulled wine and mince pies……nice touch. The cottage oozes character with its rustic beams, uneven floors and duck down door ways. The sign above the door reads ‘mind your head’ but it’s your heart you need to mind as the Castaways will whisk it away! We awoke in the morning to a winter wonderland and views over the Snowdonian mountain range and Menai Straits you would have drove a 1000 miles for. The cottage is situated on the Marquess of Anglesey’s private estate, off the beaten track but close enough to discover castles and picturesque beaches, but if you’re looking for a holiday on Mon you know all about its hidden wonder.
The cottage itself has 3 bedrooms, 2 double and a twin room. There’s a modern family bathroom, small cosy lounge (seating for 4 which is why it’s advertised as a 2 bed room only) and an open plan kitchen diner with a table to comfortably seat 6 which we did for Christmas dinner (parents came). The kitchen has an airy feel with everything and more you require, we can honestly say there is nothing you will need to bring with you, everything is there. The lounge has a living flame gas fire which looks as good as an open fire but without the hassle and the new central heating system was excellent. This was a real home from home for us and we hope to return time and time again. We have stayed in many places through out Anglesey and North Wales and this was the best by far. What an absolute gem. l
Just returned from a two week holiday at The Castaways ...what a warm and friendly welcome( and that was before we saw the home made chocalate cake waiting for us ) we had such a fab time and the cottage was perfect so cosy we made ourselves right at home ...we are looking to rebook for next year and would recommend it to everyone who wants a super family holiday and daisy dog had a great time too
European Blue Flag award beach only 10 minutes drive away. Easy access to all of Anglesey's beaches and half an hours drive to the magnificence of the Snowdonia Mountain range. Great views to the Snowdonia Mountain Range and Menai Strait and down to the Llyn Peninsula from the Cottage. A great location for walkers, bird watcher and everyone in search of a peaceful and relaxing holiday on the beautiful Island of Anglesey in North Wales.
