Enjoy a glass of wine on the west deck overlooking the London Eye with a glimpse of the flag on Victoria Tower. Or from the east deck, check out the London Shard. Then walk less than a block to catch a show at either the Old Vic Theatre or the hip Young Vic or walk down The Cut and down Union Street to the Union Yard Arches at 229 Union Street to our new favorite restaurant Balabaya. Southwark Tube and Waterloo Station are less than 5 minutes by foot and the Tate Modern is about a 10 minutes walk. The National Theatre and Southbank center are about 10 minutes away. Light, bright & airy open design makes for a comfortable & convenient short or long stay in this fully equipped modern flat.

Stay cozy in winter with the gas fireplace and cool in summer with the a/c. Floor to ceiling windows in the living/dining room ensure you know what the weather is!

One of the joys of living in central London is the proximity to everything and yet the infrastructure is under constant renewal. Our old views of Big Ben and Parliament have been compromised by the new builds. There may be construction near the flat while you stay during working hours during the week. While the flat is very quiet for a central London location, please inquire with Hannah if you are extremely sensitive to noise as to current levels of activity nearby.

About The Owner

My wife and I love London, having lived and worked there for 5 years. As a geophysicist, one gets to see the world and London is one of the great cities of course. We live mainly in Arizona now, where our dog, Chance, loves to walk in the cool mornings. But we get back to London for theatre, art, and just walking on the Southbank as often as we can.

The Owner purchased this apartment in 2007

Why The Owner chose Waterloo

This location is in the heart of the city, with a choice of bridges to walk across to the City if you are working or the West End for a show or to Westminster. My favorite run is across the Westminster bridge around Green Park and Buckingham Palace, back down the Mall and across the Hungerford Bridge to home. Running under the chestnut trees is beautiful.

Perfect urban retreat

Very comfortable, well-stocked place, walkable to many things, convenient to tube, and great views. Hannah met us as we got out of the taxi. Borough market at Christmas time was a highlight!

After staying in hotels for a week, I felt like we'd come home to this beautiful, penthouse flat. Everything went flawlessly from the moment we arrived. Our greeter cheerfully showed us all the features of the luxurious apartment (but I confess my eyes kept wandering back to the spectacular view out the floor to ceiling windows!). Every comfort of home can be found here, including a washer and dryer - hurray! We shopped at the market down the street and enjoyed breakfast at home each morning, after a good nights sleep in our comfortable beds. Every evening, we enjoyed a glass of wine on the balcony, while looking out at the city lights. The flat is within easy walking distance of restaurants, theaters, pubs and transportation. We walked to all the tourist destinations along the Thames. And, after a long day of touring, what a joy to have a choice between eating out or "staying home". It was such fun to feel more like a local than a tourist in this lovely place. Thank you to our hosts for making my first trip to London so memorable and easy. We will be back!

Million Dollar View!

Our family of four adults were recent guests at Gary's Penthouse apartment in London. By far, this flat was the accommodations highlight of our two-week trip through the U.K. and northern Europe. It all starts with the view from the living room. Oh my, that floor-to-ceiling view is breath-taking!

Two standouts occur before you enjoy the view. One is the lift. The ability to float effortlessly above the apartment's four flights of stairs after a day of sight-seeing is true bliss. The second standout before enjoying the view is the owner's host, Hannah. Through emailed questions and phone calls, Hannah provided prompt and courteous answers and helpful suggestions.

The flat itself is fitted to your every whim. As described, the kitchen is fully fitted for any cooking needs. Beds are comfy, and bathrooms are clean and spacious. Separate washer and dryer units make keeping up with laundry while on the road a breeze. The flat's proximity to grocery stores, restaurants and transport are key to a traveler's enjoyable stay - which is precisely what we had.

We can whole-heartedly recommend Gary's penthouse apartment in London!

Amazing flat in a great neighborhood

Our family of 4 (2 adults, 2 teen boys) arrived in London August 3rd. We were warmly greeted at the flat and given a full overview of the features and functions. It was very clear this is a premium rental and the owners take special care to ensure the comfort of their guests.

You might question the location vs. other more traditional tourist areas within London. Southwark turned-out to be a perfect base for our visit. The proximity to Waterloo and Southwark Stations made our journeys simple and quick (we recommend getting Oyster cards for your visit). We simply walked to our destinations along the Thames. The London Eye was only 10 mins. away. Although there are some hotels scattered about, Southwark didn't feel like a tourist area. So it was nice to come back at the end of the day and enjoy a more "local" setting. That is, real Londoners at the pubs and restaurants vs. the hordes of tourists we saw throughout the day.

The unit itself was modern, large and bright. During our visit, London was quite warm, so the central air conditioning was perfect. Keep in mind the large floor-to-ceiling windows allow for a lot of heat gain, so keep the shades up while you're out if it's warm.

The neighborhood has everything you'll need for your visit. We enjoyed the Sainsbury Local and a number of restaurants within 1 block of the flat.

We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

One minor note, the bedroom doors are self-closing (I suspect this is a fire code issue). They are quite heavy and, if allowed to swing shut, are quite loud. We had a couple of situations with them slamming in the night when one of the boys went out to use the bathroom. Wedges were provided to keep them open (or you can just try and remember to close them gently). This is probably something that should be pointed out during the initial walk-through with new renters.
