Guestbook comments from the owner

We were a combination of friends and family, some of us not very seasoned travelers. Claudio and his family were gracious and helpful and went above and beyond to accommodate us. The grounds and view are beautiful, the apartments very comfortable and the location is perfect for relaxation and sightseeing (with the bus/train ride into town). The best food we had in all of Italy was in the little town of San Martino - a 10 minute walk down the hill. Also - don't miss the Saturday happy hour at the San Martino winery 5 minutes down the road.

Simply breathtaking....surreal!!!!

  • 5 of 5

We were a family of 11 that occupied both villas. Unique setup with owners family villa in between our units all in one complex. Very helpful to have owners on site to answer our travel plans + navigating the local busses, trams, trains & taxis. Our flight was redirected to Pisa due to crosswinds so we were very late arriving our first night. We were greeted by their son who was very pleasant & showed us each villa + maps of where to get groceries, transportation...

TOURS: Sabine (was a tour agent) gave us the name of Angelo that we arranged a couple of tours with + return transportation to the airport.

TRANSPORTATION: Bus that stops right outside villa to take you downtown where you have to catch a tram to Florence &/or train to Pisa + other parts of Italy. Taxis from Florence to villa in Scandicci are scarce & pricey. If you have a rental vehicle then it may make getting groceries at Mega COOP store easier; gated parking at the villa.

ACCOMMODATION: Both villas were very clean & well appointed. Grounds were beautiful with abundant flowers, olive grove....just like the photos. What sold us on this villa was the absolutely breathtaking view of Florence & Tuscan countryside below. Huge pool was very clean but unfortunately the sun didn't cooperate for too many refreshing dips. However the hot tub was thoroughly enjoyed after long days of site seeing. Any concerns with wifi, heating hot tub were quickly addressed.

LOCAL FEATURES/RESTAURANTS: General store at San Martino alla Palma about a 15 min walk had a lovely selection of fresh foods, deli & produce. About 5 min walk was Cantina Torrigiani where we found a good selection of red & white wines + oil oil at a very reasonable price. Poggio il Masseto Pizzeria about a 15-20 min walk uphill had great pizza. Claudio suggested a tremendous restaurant Fiore further up hillside. He was kind enough to make 3 separate trips to chauffeur all 11 of us to & from the restaurant. Lovely way to spend out last evening in Italy! (see trip advisor for restaurant reviews)

OVERALL: I would definitely recommend this lovely villa run by this very accommodating Italian family. Claudio was very prompt at replying to email requests & included lots of useful information. Payment went very smoothly. Many wonderful memories were created here by our group of 11 (6 Canadian & 5 British cousins). At the end of a busy day it was nice to retreat to the peace & tranquility of our hillside villa.

Tuscan Beauty!

  • 4 of 5

This home had the most amazing views! The house itself is a renovated family home and we loved being there. We may have been the first guests of the new season because the pool and jacuzzi were just being opened for the year. Claudio the host is charming, his wife operates a Florence tour company, and his son is a chef. Together this makes for an amazing vacation. The drive from the highway (autostrada) to the house was glorious. We stopped and took about 40 photos on the way. The train directly into Florence was 10 minutes from the house and right next to a large grocery store that was super fun to shop at. Philip, the son of the owner and a chef, spent an evening teaching us to make pasta from scratch, carbonara, and berry compote. The children loved every minute of it! He was an amazing teacher. The views from the home were stunning, the property was photo worthy, the olive oil they produce was amazing. Minutes away from the house (walking) is a tasting for Tuscan wine and olive oils! We would love to return to help with the olive harvest! We can not rave enough about the cooking class with Philip.

If you are planning a romantic escape, this is the place. Make arrangements for a private dinner on the terrace with your own private chef. Surprise your special someone with a lazy swim or jacuzzi soak looking out over Florence (you can see the dome).

If you are planning a family get away, this is the place. Take in the sights of Florence over 3 days and let the kids swim away the evenings.

Practical notes: Parking was excellent. The kitchen had a freezer for ice packs! The home does not have a dryer, but our clothes smelled like the Tuscan sun and dried within hours. The only difficulty was with the wifi. We had all our reservations online and had to have Philip help us to access them before heading into the city.

We would return!

Outstanding!

  • 5 of 5

Claudio was a fantastic host, very gracious and helpful. The villa is beautiful, and has a spectacular view. The villa was very clean, well-appointed, and easy to find with our GPS. It was easy to get to the tram station to get into Florence (the best way to be sure). I'm very sorry that we couldn't stay longer! I highly recommend Villa la Pergola, and hope to return in the near future.

Perfect for a large family!

  • 5 of 5

Our extended family (some from Netherlands, some from U.S.) met here in July. We rented both of the apartments. The 5 children absolutely loved the pool and large yard. And the adults enjoyed the fabulous view from the patio --olive groves, villas, Florence. We enjoyed walking to the small village for ice cream treats, salami, and cheese. We found the villa a perfect place to relax after a day of sightseeing in Florence or driving through Tuscany.

Thank you for the wonderful experience!

The Ultimate Family Vacation!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I had a truly enjoyable stay at Villa La Pergola-Ulivo for 9 days this past September. Reading all the positive reviews helped with my decision to book the Villa… the family and villa lived up to and exceeded every rave review! Our hosts could not have been more receptive and cordial and although we only had the pleasure of meeting Claudio once, he made sure we were happy and well cared for while his father Peter was always available and a true delight and gracious host. The six of us were quite comfortable in the three bedroom villa with plenty of towels and linens, large bathroom, in unit washer and the kitchen / dining area and living room accommodated us quite well. The gorgeous views of the olive groves and the city of Florence were breath taking and getting to Florence was quite easy as we had a car and drove to Scandicci and took the train into Florence travel time less than 20 minutes. Trips to nearby towns by car were easy as well and by being based at the villa taking the train from Florence to Rome and Venice was effortless. Hopefully one day soon we will be fortunate to go back to Florence and, without hesitation, stay at Villa La Pergola again.

PS: The Family has a pottery and leather shop in Florence if you are looking for a treasured souvenir!
