|Minimum Stay||2 - 4 nights|
Escape for a week to this Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired home, an extremely unique, natural, built-into-the-river-bluff setting on a picturesque 3 acre lot with close to 300' of private river frontage. It can accommodate 4 to 5 people and is located on the Wisconsin bluff, looking over to Stillwater. The location is very private, yet just 1.5 miles south of downtown Stillwater and about 5 miles north of Hudson. It is also just down the road, almost walking distance, from The Valley House banquet and wedding facility, making it a choice event location.
Note: If you were unaware, there is a new bridge project going through Stillwater for the next few years with associated detours that change week to week. The project starts about a mile across the river and connects to Wisconsin about 1/3 mile north of the Escape. The lift bridge will be in service for vehicle traffic until the new bridge is complete, then will only allow bike and walking traffic. We are river loving couple who want to give our guests the not-your-average-hotel opportunity to stay in this cozy and unique setting and share the beauty of nature and the river.
JT purchased this chalet in 2012
The unique private natural setting on the bluff, large lot, and the beach below sold us on this 'escape'. It is very close to both Stillwater and Hudson, two delightful river towns.
The privacy, architectural harmony, and natural beauty is amazing.
We rented this place for a stop along our motorcycle trip. The owner was very accommodating and promptly answered any questions we had. The place exceeded our expectations! Very unique style to the house. Upper and lower levels are nicely done along with the great balcony, fire pit, and awesome views. It is secluded from neighbors/traffic.
A tarp was even left for our motorcycles, cold beer in the fridge, fresh coffee, and made it very easy to start the fireplace. This is a great place to stay and we will stay here again if we are in the area.
I am not one really to write reviews, but the owner went above and beyond to make our trip more comfortable. Can't thank you enough!
Everything was perfect - we had great weather, home was super clean and private. We hope to return. I think we prefer downtown Hudson to Stillwater now. Thanks for the hospitality, nice surprise with the flowers and 'goodies' in the fridge.
We enjoyed a great weekend at the River Escape. This was our second visit to this rental and it met all of our needs. We will definitely consider this rental again.
We stayed at the St. Croix River Escape at the end of 2015 and used it as home base while we visited friends and family in Minnesota and Wisconsin. We had a few friends over for New Year's eve (4 adults and 2 kids) and some stayed (2 adults) with us for a day or two after that. It was a perfect place to stay with spaces for people to read or nap quietly and spaces to hang out together. We played games, watched movies, and had many great fires in the big fireplace. My favorite spot was the couch in front of the fireplace. I had a cold while there and it was a lovely place to be. We cooked - the kitchen is cute and well appointed. The dishwasher is one I would love to have in my own house - Fisher and Paykel - very nifty. Nice towels, good bathrooms - very unique and well-appointed. Great views.
We had a little snowstorm while we were there and the place got plowed and shoveled out for us, so we were really pleased about that. Since it was later in the day, we had to do a few running starts to get out of the driveway earlier on the day of the snow storm, but we were so happy to have it all cleared out later on!
We were all wondering what it's like in the summer months, so who knows - we may come back and try it again then!
Five of us spent two nights at River Escape. It was perfect! Beautiful location, comfortable quarters - warm and homey with plenty of room. Best part was the huge fireplace that we used both nights with wood that the owners graciously provided. Only 20 minutes to the slopes at Afton Alps. Would rent here again in a heartbeat!
This home is architecturally interesting with lots of wood and stone that set off the gorgeous river views. It was beautifully clean and comfortable for our stay. We loved its quiet, peaceful location. Next time we'll have to visit when it's warm enough to use the lovely decks! Thank you to the owners for adjusting the check-in time to our flight arrival and for helping us celebrate the holidays beautifully.
This is a truly unique, modern, yet natural setting that is difficult to describe, but somewhere between a chalet and tree house with multi-tier decks and patios will get you close. The property is about 3 acres with approximately 300' of private water frontage on a very wide area of the St. Croix River. The beach lies down the steep sandy bluff. Although the property has private water front, the house sits in a private cove at the top of a steep, sandy, treed hill. We hike up and down a rustic marked path, but it is about 350' of hill and is a short, but strenuous hike. It is only accessible for the fit and adventurous and boots and gloves are recommended.
Please Note: This is just south of Stillwater, but on the other side of the lift bridge.
