Overview

About the property

Chalet, 2 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4-5)

Escape for a week to this Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired home, an extremely unique, natural, built-into-the-river-bluff setting on a picturesque 3 acre lot with close to 300' of private river frontage. It can accommodate 4 to 5 people and is located on the Wisconsin bluff, looking over to Stillwater. The location is very private, yet just 1.5 miles south of downtown Stillwater and about 5 miles north of Hudson. It is also just down the road, almost walking distance, from The Valley House banquet and wedding facility, making it a choice event location.

Note: If you were unaware, there is a new bridge project going through the Stillwater area. Here is a link for current status: http://www.dot.state.mn.us/stcroixcrossing/index.html

About JT

We are river loving couple who want to give our guests the not-your-average-hotel opportunity to stay in this cozy and unique setting and share the beauty of nature and the river.

JT purchased this chalet in 2012

Why JT chose Wisconsin

The unique private natural setting on the bluff, large lot, and the beach below sold us on this 'escape'. It is very close to both Stillwater and Hudson, two delightful river towns.

What makes this chalet unique

The privacy, architectural harmony, and natural beauty is amazing.

Great getaway, close to Twin Cities

  • 5 of 5

Relaxing and peaceful location, close to the Twins. Plenty of space on two outside decks (one wraparound) and natural rock patio, with a fire ring at center. Great space inside for games and meals and watching some TV on rainy days. For four guys, we added an air mattress to the master bedroom and everyone had their own bed. The kitchen is ok (I don't love electric cooktops) but is well stocked with pans, utensils, etc. Have rented before and will rent again!

Second time was even better

  • 5 of 5

Our second stay at The Escape was even more wonderful than our first. Everything was in bloom and the property looked more gorgeous than ever. There were cardinals, woodpeckers, and raptors to keep us company during the day, and amazing stars at night. The home itself is so beautiful and peaceful that we very seldom left to go into town. When we did, we were ideally situated between Hudson and Stillwater, and both towns are lovely this time of year.

A Beautiful "Zen" home!

  • 5 of 5

May 2-4th the three of us girlfriends had a wonderful 3 day, 2 night stay at this magnificent home! We defiantly overpacked not knowing they provided everything we needed, including wonderful surprise treats of wine & beer! The home & decks overlooking the breathtaking St. Croix river was so peaceful and calming. We couldn't have asked for a better mini vacation. Thank you JT!!

Quaint

  • 3 of 5

PROS:

House holds high aesthetic

Location was convenient for visiting downtown Stillwater. The double decks are pleasant for viewing wildlife and the river, although the new bridge stands in minor obstruction. Lots of space for parking 3 vehicles.

CONS:

A few dishes were unclean - crusted food lined the rims and corners of the pots and pans. Shelving, dressers and lamps were coated in dust. Opened cans and foods from previous guests were found in the fridge. A diligent clean could remedy this for future guests.

Overall, a nice stay.

Location

This is a truly unique, modern, yet natural setting that is difficult to describe, but somewhere between a chalet and tree house with multi-tier decks and patios will get you close. The property is about 3 acres with approximately 300' of private water frontage on a very wide area of the St. Croix River. The beach lies down the steep sandy bluff. Although the property has private water front, the house sits in a private cove at the top of a steep, sandy, treed hill. We hike up and down a rustic marked path, but it is about 350' of hill and is a short, but strenuous hike. It is only accessible for the fit and adventurous and boots and gloves are recommended.

Please Note: This is just south of Stillwater, but on the other side of the lift bridge.
