We invite you to enjoy our secluded, peaceful, custom house in scenic Northeastern Oregon. The handcrafted house is conveniently located in the foothills of the Wallowa Mountains, the Western gateway to the Eagle Cap Wilderness. Hiking, fishing, skiing, and mountaineering opportunities abound. Wildlife roams in profusion. The Wallowas and the Elkhorn Crest provide excellent backcountry skiing opportunities. For a more civilized skiing experience the Anthony Lakes ski area is only about 50 minutes away and provides maintained Nordic trails and alpine skiing. The town of Union is six miles away, with its collection of Victorian homes, the Hot Lake Hot Springs and a most charming Victorian cemetery. La Grande and Baker City are also nearby. On the other side of the Wallowas, Hells Canyon and the Joseph/Enterprise area provide additional recreational opportunities.
SKIERS! Please ask about half price lift ticket vouchers for the Anthony Lakes ski area. We will offer up to one for each guest for each day you stay. This offer begins Thanksgiving Day, and is valid until Anthony Lakes closes for the season, or we run out of vouchers.
The area affords ORV opportunities. If you wish to bring your vehicles, please do not ride them on the property.
The house itself is like no other. The home has been remodeled with custom detail. The gleaming wood floors have inlaid patterns, the cathedral ceilings are open beam, and the kitchen is open to the house for easy interactions with family and friends. The bedrooms boast window seats which may urge you to indulge in a good read. On a cool evening relax by the gas fireplace, or stoke up the woodstove. In another mood, enjoy the hot tub on the porch while you gaze across the valley. The house sits on its own 48 acres, so you will have to look sharply to see another house! Deer, elk and other wildlife are plentiful and roam the hillside and meadow.
Kids are welcome at the house, but if you have very small children we may want to talk. The house is not in any way child-proofed. It has a shower, but no tub for splashing little ones in, and the stairs to the loft are not for playing on. We want you to enjoy your stay, so please keep this in mind. No pets are allowed.

The house is well off the beaten track, yet still accessible. It is central to many different activities, providing a variety of opportunities all year round. It is the ideal base camp for wilderness recreation and activities.
Seclusion, quiet, variety, scenic surroundings and adjacency to Catherine Creek State Park and trout fishing.
Clean and spacious. Remote and secluded yet not far from groceries and services. Deer grazing in the yard. A real get away from it all place.
We had a great time at this property. The cabin is located in a quiet area and secluded. It was an excellent place to sit back and unplug from life for a couple days. The cabin is a good size and sits on a nice size piece of property. We had a couple visitors (A doe with twins and a LOT of turkeys) who came strolling onto the property near the cabin and were fun to watch. Would definitely make a trip back!
The is our second time to stay at this wonderful retreat. The 48 acres have breathtaking views. The deer are wonderful to watch.
What a wonderful place to stay. We look forward to coming back next year. Konny and Greg always go out of their way to make
our stay perfect. Thanks Steve Hart, Boise, ID
I can't say much that others have not said. The house is simply WONDERFUL. The pictures don't really do it justice - the house and the property is even more beautiful. It's got plenty of places you can gather and enjoy time together, and other areas you can get away and be by yourself if you'd like. The house is close to Catherine Creek picnic area (we rode our bikes there), but the house property is so nice you may not want to leave! There's often a nice breeze, so you might want to bring a kite, and as others have mentioned, the star-gazing is outstanding, so you might want to bring a telescope if you have one. You will definitely enjoy your stay here, and Konny is responsive and helpful in making your arrangements. Great for family get-togethers as well as couples wanting time alone.
This was a great place to stay. Absolutely beautiful piece of property and house. I really enjoyed how open and secluded everything was. Really enjoyed my time here. Especially in the Jacuzzi at night when the stars were out (I'm from Alaska so we never get stars in the summer time while its warm). I would love to stay again when I visit the area.
The Wilderness Decadence came as advertised and we had no issues with arrival and departure. It was a very easy process and communication was good. Everything worked well in the house, it was clean, and the gas fireplace and hot tub were great for keeping warm and cozy. The selection of board games and brochures about area activities provided some good activities. For area eats we went Barley Brown's in Baker - great brewery and food options; the Geyser Grand Hotel for brunch (amazing bloody's). We also went to LG Brewski's in Union - a friendly family owned bar that is fun to have some beers and pub food and meet some locals.
Eating breakfast in the sunshine and looking out the big windows around the dining table was a great way to start the day. The cabin is in a great location but also has the feeling of being off the beaten path and adventurous. It is a great headquarters to day trip through the Wallowas, the Grande Ronde Valley, Baker City and the Elkhorns, and much much more. We went cross-country skiing at Meacham Divide Nordic park 18 miles west of La Grande - fantastic way to see the Blues up close instead of from the freeway. Note, there doesn't seem to be skiing at Catherine Summit sno-park up the road (like the Forest Service says), though a lot of snow mobile action.
My only recommendations would be queen size or larger beds in the two main bedrooms would be more decadent, and perhaps turning the kitchen bar into an island, it's a long walk from the fireplace....but what do I know? Thank You for sharing, it's a great place!
The property is located near the town of Union, and a bit further from La Grande. Nearby are: a golf course, the Mt. Emily Recreation Area, Anthony Lakes Ski resort, and Eastern Oregon University with its campus and theater department. The Grande Ronde scenic drive is a beautiful way to spend an afternoon. Baker City is also in the area, with museums, a historic downtown and the Oregon Trail. The area hosts many activities, including music festivals, bike races, a stock show and running events.
