My husband and I both grew up in Western North Carolina. We love these mountains we call home.
We are avid outdoor enthusiasts!!
Most of the time we are either traveling up and down the Blue Ridge Parkway or on one of the winding country roads on our road bikes or hitting the thousands of acres of trails on our mountain bikes.
We also enjoy taking in one of our other favorite activities...fishing. Whether we are wading in with our fly rods on one of our many pristine mountain streams or floating down one of the many awesome rivers we are never disappointed.
On our farm we have a small herd of Scottish Highland Cattle as well as a few horses and of course our dogs. We love our area and our farm so much that we felt like we should share it with others who would like to experience a taste of what we live with and are blessed with everyday!!
When staying on our farm you will enjoy a unique relaxing setting where you will feel far away even though you are only minutes away from activities, exceptional dining and of course all the mountains have to offer.
The Barn was a very unique and beautiful experience. It was like camping in a big open lodge. One private bedroom and sleeping for six more all together in an open space like a youth cabin with bunks. Very cool! We never saw the owners but had everything we needed and it was all very tastefully done! We loved it and would definitely go again.
Although the barn was roomy it was somewhat surprising to find the beds are all upstairs next to the game room with very little privacy, one room with a door but the walls are not to the ceiling and it was impossible to sleep when people were playing air hockey, watching tv..etc..also the pool table did not have one stick with a tip, out of 8 sticks.... so we could not play pool, which was a big thing to us when we booked it. The freezer was very dirty, moldy, the coffee maker had an old coffee pod in it that had to be there a very long time because it created a lot of mold in the basket that took some strong cleaning to remove, no microwave. the couch in the lower kitchen area was black on the arms from dirt, the bathroom floor was dirty and the rugs needed to be shook badly, the toilet had a black ring, so we had to clean the bathroom. Lots of cob webs and they don't tell you till you book that they live right next door which takes away from the privacy factor. We also found some of the sheets and blankets provided were ripped. I wanted to give this place a 5 but because it needed to be cleaned and the lay out for sleeping I could not.
We enjoyed staying at a working farm. Owners were friendly.
Bedroom arrangement is unusual but works fine for a large family. One bathroom is a negative.
Good location for exploring the area.
I scheduled a river tubing trip in the area for a reunion of friends. This place more than met our needs. The Red Barn was gorgeous both inside and out with plenty to do around the house for a rainy Saturday. I can't thank the property owners enough for the accommodations, cleanliness, and privacy throughout our stay. I would recommend the Red Barn to anyone.
Our family had an amazing time at the Red Barn over Easter. We spent the days hiking near by. The children loved seeing the chickens and the pigs.
Alan & Lisa - our "Red Barn" Thanksgiving holiday was GREAT! You have an amazing property and it was great spending time getting to know your kids - Of course, the dogs miss "their" chickens, and Miss Percy & Brutus added that special touch! Thank you for the ability to spend time together in the mountains! Rebecca & kids
