Overview

About the property

Large 2-level loft-style apartment, south-facing terrace, overlooking the port

Capestang is a lively and popular wine-producing village with plenty of character and a friendly population. The village square at the foot of the impressive 13th century church has cafes and restaurants and is the setting for a twice-weekly market selling fresh local produce (olives, cheeses, wines and oysters to name but a few!). Capestang has all facilities (banks with ATMs, large supermarket, pharmacy, doctors, dentist, etc.). Easily accessible, with budget flights to Beziers airport 35 minutes away, Carcassonne, Montpellier and Perpignan airports about 1 hour's drive away, Toulouse and Girona 2 hours.

This first-floor apartment is a very successful combination of old and new, with wonderful exposed beams - one of 14 different designs in a former winery converted some twenty years ago. It is light, airy and very spacious (960 sq.ft.) - the large open plan kitchen area is excellently equipped, while the lounge / dining room opens onto the sunny south-facing terrace with barbecue, overlooking the port.

The large airy mezzanine area has comfortable seating and a flat-screen TV. Unlimited broadband internet is included in the price.

Great apartment in a superb location made for a wonderful holiday

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed in the area on holiday for the last few years but this was the best yet. The apartment is spacious and very well equipped. The outside terrace had a great view of the Canal du Midi and was a perfect place to sit and relax both during the day and evening.

Yes we agree with earlier reviews that the bedrooms are a little snug, but don't be put off, they are only for sleeping in. The rest of the apartment makes up for it with oodles of space.

Capestang has all you need for day to day living and the Sunday market is particularly good for fresh fruit, meat and veg, as well as a good selection of cooked food. The fancy cakes from the boulangerie in the town square were awesome.

The beach is within easy reach by car and of course Carcassonne is always worth a day out.

As a serious cyclist I was in heaven. Loads of quiet lanes to cycle on as well as the traffic free canal paths stretching for miles each way. Cycle to Le Someil for the best choice of canal side lunch restaurants in the whole area..

All in all we had a great two weeks holiday in a great apartment in a great location.

Spacious apartment in great location

  • 3 of 5

The apartment is large, spacious and has good facilities. The bedrooms are on the small side but like others, we slept in the double room and used the other bedroom as a dressing room.

We did think the apartment could do with a better clean. There were too many spider webs and some had obviously been there for a very long time; the sofa bed upstairs had lots of dog hairs on; there were remnants of peanuts and crisps on the floor. Another problem is the shower, which sprays everywhere once the water is turned on because the shower head moves of its own accord and then jumps out of the bracket when turned off.

The balcony area is large with a bbq, sun loungers, table and chairs - a great space for sunbathing, meals and watching the boats go by on the Canal. All in all, with a little more TLC this would be a very good apartment.

Capestang is a lovely village. The port is really attractive, the market is great for fresh produce and there are some good restaurants. We hired bikes from Velogenie and cycled along the Canal paths to the 9 locks at Bezier. It is also easy to get to many other places from Capestang.

Ideal holiday home

  • 5 of 5

We visited in the middle of June. This is a wonderful base for exploring the Herault. The house is very well equipped and ideal for four with the exception of the bedrooms which are a bit on the small side. As there were only two of us we slept in the double room and used the twin as a dressing room and wardrobe space. The indoor living areas are very spacious and comfortable and the terrace overlooking the canal and the church is perfect. Sue was away when we visited but Jan went out of her way to help us settle in.

La Galiniere and La Table du Vigneron were our favourite restaurants in Capestang.

A great holiday. Would come back again.

Campbell and Morag, scotland.

Super apartment overlooking the Canal Du Midi

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay in this lovely apartment. It is in a super position set back from the road overlooking the Canal Du Midi, and with a fantastic view of the magnificent church. The apartment is very well equipped and spotlessly clean. It is cool, spacious and very comfortable. The private south-facing terrace gets the sun all day. The apartment is a very short walk to the nearest bar / restaurant on the port, and a gentle five minute stroll across the bridge into to the town centre.

Sue is a lovely host - very welcoming and helpful.

Capestang itself is a delightful small quiet French town with several good restaurants and friendly bars. There are very good local shops and Boulangeries, as well as two large supermarkets - one each end of the town.

Overall we would strongly recommend Sue's apartment and a visit to Capestang - we'll be back next year!

Met our needs

  • 4 of 5

We stayed here for three very hot weeks in June/July this year. The apartment was well equipped and we were grateful for the second fridge as much as the washer and dishwasher. We did not find the bedrooms as small as some other reviewers and found them quite comfortable. The linen was changed every Saturday. As seniors though, we found the bathroom to be sadly in need of a walk-in shower. Capestang itself was lovely and close to lots of other places worth viewing. We loved the flower market in Bèziers and especially the town of Pezenas, though on market day it's best to arrive well before 10 to make sure you get a parking spot. All in all, this is an area worth visiting
