About the property

Large 2-level loft-style apartment, south-facing terrace, overlooking the port

Capestang is a lively and popular wine-producing village with plenty of character and a friendly population. The village square at the foot of the impressive 13th century church has cafes and restaurants and is the setting for a twice-weekly market selling fresh local produce (olives, cheeses, wines and oysters to name but a few!). Capestang has all facilities (banks with ATMs, large supermarket, pharmacy, doctors, dentist, etc.). Easily accessible, with budget flights to Beziers airport 35 minutes away, Carcassonne, Montpellier and Perpignan airports about 1 hour's drive away, Toulouse and Girona 2 hours.

This first-floor apartment is a very successful combination of old and new, with wonderful exposed beams - one of 14 different designs in a former winery converted some twenty years ago. It is light, airy and very spacious (960 sq.ft.) - the large open plan kitchen area is excellently equipped, while the lounge / dining room opens onto the sunny south-facing terrace with barbecue, overlooking the port.

The large airy mezzanine area has comfortable seating and a flat-screen TV. Unlimited broadband internet is included in the price.

Ideal holiday home

  • 5 of 5

We visited in the middle of June. This is a wonderful base for exploring the Herault. The house is very well equipped and ideal for four with the exception of the bedrooms which are a bit on the small side. As there were only two of us we slept in the double room and used the twin as a dressing room and wardrobe space. The indoor living areas are very spacious and comfortable and the terrace overlooking the canal and the church is perfect. Sue was away when we visited but Jan went out of her way to help us settle in.

La Galiniere and La Table du Vigneron were our favourite restaurants in Capestang.

A great holiday. Would come back again.

Super apartment overlooking the Canal Du Midi

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay in this lovely apartment. It is in a super position set back from the road overlooking the Canal Du Midi, and with a fantastic view of the magnificent church. The apartment is very well equipped and spotlessly clean. It is cool, spacious and very comfortable. The private south-facing terrace gets the sun all day. The apartment is a very short walk to the nearest bar / restaurant on the port, and a gentle five minute stroll across the bridge into to the town centre.

Sue is a lovely host - very welcoming and helpful.

Capestang itself is a delightful small quiet French town with several good restaurants and friendly bars. There are very good local shops and Boulangeries, as well as two large supermarkets - one each end of the town.

Overall we would strongly recommend Sue's apartment and a visit to Capestang - we'll be back next year!

Met our needs

  • 4 of 5

We stayed here for three very hot weeks in June/July this year. The apartment was well equipped and we were grateful for the second fridge as much as the washer and dishwasher. We did not find the bedrooms as small as some other reviewers and found them quite comfortable. The linen was changed every Saturday. As seniors though, we found the bathroom to be sadly in need of a walk-in shower. Capestang itself was lovely and close to lots of other places worth viewing. We loved the flower market in Bèziers and especially the town of Pezenas, though on market day it's best to arrive well before 10 to make sure you get a parking spot. All in all, this is an area worth visiting

Apartment is light, spacious and wonderfully equipped within easy walking distance of the village

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved our week at this property in Capestang and quite fell in love with the apartment, the village and indeed the whole area. The owners had thought of absolutely everything to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. We spent a week here in early April and enjoyed visiting the Mediterranean coast, the historic nearby towns and cities, the delightful hilly countryside to the north west and indeed the village itself which is full of interesting and beautiful buildings. Busy markets on Sunday and Wednesday supplied us with all our cooking needs. When we weren't cooking at the apartment we ate locally at various village restaurants, all very good indeed. To compensate for the amazing good food we ate, we took long walks along the canal - never a dull moment watching the birds and the boats! and also thought about (but ran out of time to!) hiring bicycles from the village letting shop. So much to do here, even 'out of season' and would not hesitate to recommend this property and the location to anyone. A return visit for us is a must.

Ideal location for canal based holiday for couple or small family

  • 3 of 5

Ours was a three night stay in mid April.

Well organised communications and handovers.

Easy to find, spotlessly clean property with all the usual facilities needed for a self drive self catering holiday, car parking very handy, and easy walks along the Canal Du Midi, short walk into Capestang, closest restaurant 50yds away.

Double bedroom was a tad on the cosy side, more like a large single, so we used the twin beds. Found the pillows a bit hard but otherwise slept ok. Enjoyed most having breakfast or drinks on the balcony, looking towards the canal, and an excellent lunch at La Tour Sarrasine in nearby Poilhes, also overlooking the canal.

Capestang was quiet, as you would expect at this time of the season, but provides a decent location from which to explore the local area, lots of attractive countryside, towns and villages. The nearest large town Beziers is very much a working town, bit of a building site when we visited, including the canal locks, as was Colombiers.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for the feedback: we're glad that you enjoyed your stay. Sorry you found our memory foam pillows hard - we've now replaced them with softer microfibre ones. The double bedroom is not huge we know - but it does have a full size double bed.
