Beautiful, spacious villa in rolling hills and set in 4 acres looking south west down a valley studded with carob and olive trees, carpeted with wild flowers in Spring. This wonderfully peaceful location is only 7km from some of the finest beaches in the Algarve, close to the lovely towns of Castro Marim (5km) and Vila Real (7km). Spain is 10 mins by car and Seville 90 minutes. The glorious River Guadiana and its valley is close by and a drive north takes you to the small towns, vineyards & cork oaks of the Alentejo. Monte Gordo with its lively nightlife and casino is on the nearby coast, The villa is very well situated for those wishing to explore; or you may prefer to laze by the solar heated pool and to soak up the views from the various terraces, or shaded decking area where the main BBQ is placed. Surrounded by open countryside, our neighbour still farms with a mule and plough. The salt marshes around Castro Marim are renowned for birdwatching.2 fine golf courses are within 8km.
Golf: The closest courses, in order of expense, are Castro Marim, (5km),with 27 holes, Quinta do Vale, designed by Seve Ballasteros, (7km), and Monte Rei designed by Jack Nicklaus, (8km). Others within a 30 minute drive include Quinta da Ria, Quinta da Cima and Benamor. There are several more over the border in Spain.
Our second visit to this fabulous villa and everything just as great as we remembered. Very well equipped and comfortable, plenty of room for the whole family, excellent outside space and pool, peaceful but not too far to local amenities and easy access to beautiful, sandy beaches. We wouldnt hesitate to recommend this villa.
We spent three wonderful weeks in the absolutely lovely villa Quinta da Lavanda. The rooms, spread out on four different floor levels, were spacious and tastefully decorated, and there was plenty of room for all of us at any time anywhere in the villa (we were 8+2 babies the last week). The table tennis was frequently used, and it was great with two TV's and DVD's with that many people from three generations. There were three babies in total during our stay, and it is a very nice house for all ages. The owners even had baby chairs, a cot etc. The kitchen had all necessary equipment. The pool was top class, very spacious, clean and one of our favorite places during the hot days!! The possibility having barbecue outside was also very nice. The villa is surrounded by a very beautiful scenery, all quiet and relaxing. It can get a bit windy sometimes, but since we had very nice and hot weather we just welcomed the breezes. It is absolutely recommended or even needed to have access to a car. From the villa, you easily go a few minutes to Castro Marim, Vila Real, Monte Gordo, or even to Spain which is just about 10 minutes away. The beaches (Praia Verde, Praia Monte Gordo) were excellent, and they are very close by car. For those who like dogs and cats, there is a kennel (canil) only about three minutes away by car. We loved our stay at Quinta da Lavanda, the villa definitely lived up to all expectations. The housekeeper Luis is extremely friendly and service minded, speaks good English and excellent Spanish, and he is always prepared to help no matter what. He also gave appreciated tips on things to do and places to go. He also looked after the pool very well. We would love to return some day, and we highly recommend this villa.
We spent a wonderful week in May and we're lucky enough to benefit from the heat wave so weather was amazing! The villa has everything you could want for a relaxing home-from-home holiday in the sun! The games room is a huge bonus and is great for evening entertainment and competitions! The BBQ area is also a great asset to the villa and provides a lovely good space to eat or shelter from the sun whilst the Dorada is cooking!! All in all a lovely week in a lovely villa and we can't wait to return!
Four of us stayed at Quinta do Lavanda for a week in March 2015. For three of us the main aim was birdwatching, our fourth party member joined us for some of the time but spent three of her days cycling the quiet roads around the local towns and villages. The villa is just as described; spacious, very nicely appointed, peaceful and well maintained. It made a superb base for us as we were able to cook, eat and relax when we weren't gallivanting about looking for the next star bird or the next hill!
If you have any interest in birds at all you will love southern Portugal, and this Villa is the ideal base for the whole thing. There's the local salt pans which have their own range of interesting birds (including Portugal's only Lesser Short-Toed Larks), and the Villa is only ten minutes away from the motorway, making places like Baixo Alentejo an easy drive away. Baixo Alentejo is one of the best birding areas in Europe, with a large population of Great Bustard (we saw 51 in one field) and a whole host of other charismatic and rare birds such as the Spanish Eagle and Black Vulture. On the other hand you can just sit on one of the terraces at the house and enjoy the noisy, sociable Iberian Magpies coming in to roost in the valley every evening, or look for a Montagu's Harrier flying over the nearby olive groves.
We also did a couple or three short walks (still looking for birds but not so obsessively) in the local area, the house has guides to these. Very nice easy treks in lovely tranquil countryside, starting and finishing in pretty towns and villages with well-stocked bars and cafes.
I love southern Portugal, and we loved this house.
We have been coming to the Algarve for more then 10 years now. This is, without doubt, the nicest villa we have stayed in. My family of 8 stayed here 5-19 September, 4 adults, 3 grown up children and our 84 year old mum. The villa worked perfectly for us. There is enough space for everyone to have a little privacy and peace and quiet when necessary. The villa is extremely well equipped, spacious and well laid out (when you get used to it!). The outside space is lovely with several eating areas to choose from. My favorite was the bbq area next to the wonderful pool. There is no chlorine or salt in the pool; it works on a filtration system, so no sore eyes!
The area is wonderfully peaceful and you have beautiful views all around, with no neighbours (other than Monty the donkey) overlooking you. It feels very rural but is only a short distance away from local towns, beaches etc. Praia Verde beach is beautiful. A visit to Ayamonte for tapas is a must and only a short distance away.
Luis, the manager, looks after everything very competently and is on hand 24/7. We had the best mid-week clean we have ever had in villas we have stayed in.
Would we come back? You bet; we have already booked for next year!
A wonderful villa in a beautiful location.
Obrigada Robyn & Richard.
Fantastic villa which, for a change, is actually better than it looks in the photos! We stayed in this villa as two families (2 adults and 2 children each) and found that there was plenty of room. The children had their own little lounge, TV, kitchen, and games room which they loved and enabled the adults to have a bit of peace and quiet! We all loved the large pool which is spotlessly clean and has special filters which means there is no chlorine in it so no stinging eyes-fantastic. The villa has loads of equipment and you are greated by the manager who goes through everything with you. He is really helpful and can be contacted 24hrs. The villa is ideally situated in the countryside but with the pretty towns of Villa Real San Antonio and Ayamonte (in Spain) just a few minutes drive away. I recommend catching the ferry to Ayamonte (costs just over 1 euro!) for Tapas-absolutely gorgeous! This villa was everything we have always hoped for - and more! We will definitely be returning
This part of the Algarve has uncrowded sandy beaches which are safe & clean. One of the loveliest stretches is at Praia Verde (7kms) with beach restaurants. Take a trip on the beautiful Guadiana river, or alongside on the stunning twisting road to Alcoutim where a small ferry will take you for tapas in Spain. Vila Real also has a ferry to Ayamonte in Spain where the nightlife is more boisterous.
Villa Real has a fine marina & central square, is full of cafes, is famous for its towels and tablecloths and has an excellent market with freshly caught fish. There is an impressive sports complex, including tennis courts.Castro Marim lives in the past with its 2 castles, fine church & cafes. Sit here to watch the world go by slowly. East of Tavira sees more Portuguese than British tourists and prices are generally lower. The course at Castro Marim (5kms) is particularly good value. Our land is brilliant for birdwatchers; hoopoes, azure winged magpies, woodchat shrikes & many others all visit
