My husband and I fell in love with the people of El Salvador and then the place. We bought land during our very first visit to this amazing Country several years ago.
We built a home on the Coast and with so many people wanting to visit to see El Salvador for themselves, we embarked on a new endeavor to help others fall in love with El Salvador as we have. It must be working because many of our guests at both our Bed Breakfast and Spa and our Rental Properties are now property owners themselves in and around the Coastal region.
We take great joy in helping others see this incredible Country and culture through our eyes.
We like what we do and it shows!
D'Arcy Burke/owner purchased this villa in 2011
Before we even owned land at the end of a beautiful peninsula in a gated community, we would drive to witness the spectacular sunrises and sunsets. On our last day of vacation, I said, 'let's say goodbye to OUR PLACE.' hanging on a tree was a sign said that said 'for sale.' We called even though we were running late to catch our airplane. The owner, at the time, had just posted the sign and said he'd turn around and be back in less than 10 minutes, He came, we placed an offer, he accepted and we made a mad dash to the Int'l airport arriving last call for the Burkes. We hit the seats laughing but were slightly numb; being the adventuresome sort we are, we dove into being proud property owners of El Salvador with gusto.
We returned weeks later to start the building phase and have been enjoying the Country and it's people for over 5 years. We love the slower pace of El Salvador, we love how relational and community oriented it is and recently, we have taken up surfing!
The sound of the ocean ranks at the top of what we enjoy the most about El Salvador. The smell of the Ocean is second and how it is brimming with life. I love to watch the dolphins, manarays, turtles, pelicans, whales, fish etc. The ocean is constantly changing and yet it so soothing! There is nothing quite so relaxing as the sound of the ocean from my hammock; or the view of the colorful sunsets from our observatory deck.
I love everything about our little Paradise on the Coast. I especially love sharing it with others!
Stayed in the Casita. The bed, shower, exposed toilet combination is unusual. Bath towels, 4 gallons of drinking water, a corkscrew and a limited supply of toilet paper is about all that the place comes with. Primitive Wi-Fi will cost you extra and the TV is essentially a wall hanging - no local or cable channels. You absolutely need a car but the roads are in good shape for CA and its a fairly easy drive. A new restaurant on the property (El Pelicano) offers good North American/ Euro style food complete with a great sunsets -everyplace else offers the same local food. Drive to El Tunco for variety, backpackers/surfer type nightlife. Carry small money only -few places can make change for a $20 or larger.
I am in my early 40's and well travelled (25+ countries). I am accustom to the quality and cleanliness you find in a 4 or 5 star hotel. My partner and I were very pleased to find The Romantic Casita met our expectations; and the property (grounds, pool, location, view, beach access) easily exceeded our expectations. The casita is a unit attached to the side of a larger home which is also rented out, therefore you will be sharing the grounds and pool with other guests. We expected this and had no issues/concerns/problems etc. Inside the unit we did not hear any noise/sounds from the guests in the larger house.
-fantastic view, location, pool, and beach....absolutely stunning
-gated community with armed guards
-we ordered food (pupusas) from a vendor who came by on his bike - it was a fantastic, inexpensive and a unique service....and delicious
-the food at the restaurants at the neighbouring beach (El Parmacito- ask the owners/property manager for directions) was fantastic and inexpensive eg. Breakfast (omelette) and coffee for two was $7 total. These restaurants are huts on the beach, however the food is fresh and restaurant quality. I had a lobster dinner which came with two small lobsters covered in prawns (20 +) with rice, salad, tortilla for $15.
-unit has a combination safe
-D'Arcy (owner) is excellent at responding quickly to any questions or concerns
-Roxanne (ppty mgr) comes by each morning to attend to needs
Things to keep in mind:
-WIFI signal did not work for us until the last day (on the last day the ppty mgr advised us it works if you place the wifi stick by the window....only then did it work for us).
-stairs - there are not a lot of stairs however people with disabilities will find the stairs and pathway to the pool challenging
-in a residential area therefore not within walking distance to markets, shops
-stop at the market on your way in to pick up groceries (don't forget oil, herbs, charcoal (for the BBQ) etc.
-include hand soap, hair dryer, shampoo with the rest of your toiletries
-AC is only in the bedroom
-ants- this is a tropical destination so you have to expect to have ants, geckos etc. it is part and parcel! (Note: these ants did not bite). However, I recommend more effort be made into controlling them -traps etc. and be prepared to put all food items etc away regularly.
This property was stunning and I can not wait to return to it. Highly recommended!
My husband and I (age 40ish) stayed 8 nights at this romantic casita. It is spectacular in every way and really does exceed every expectation.
The house comes complete with all basic cooking utensils and basic kitchenware. I would recommend bringing paper products such as paper towels, plastic wrap, and perhaps refrigerator containers to store left over food (fresh cut up fruit) in the fridge.
The house offers 2 bathrooms, one in the casita, one outside for pool access. Bring hand soap for each bathroom. The daily maid service and pool cleaning every other day is a true luxury.
There are a few beach front restaurants within walking distance. Roxanna the property manager is very helpful in recommending all sorts of sights to see as well as dining options. She speaks excellent English.
You will not be disappointed staying at this property. DÁrcy the property owner is very quick to answer any booking inquiries and is very professional arranging money transfers for payment and refund of damage deposit.
We stayed for 8 nights - our first time in El Salvador. D'Arcy was helpful in preparation and Roxanna was delightful. We loved the pool and the views from the house ... and especially loved the sound of the ocean hitting the wall. The Casita provided us everything we needed for a great vacation.
This romantic casita was beyond what we had expected! The property manager was helpful and in tune with our needs while we were there. The casita is beautiful and provides all the necessity amenities for sun bathing, cooking, and relaxing. The location is perfect for surfers, beach combers, or those looking to relax in a hammock and listen to the ocean. There is a unique trail that leads to neighboring El Palmarcito with natural pools along the way. The house is a dream for anyone who wants to experience El Salvador in style. Also, the neighborhood is gated which would make anyone feel more comfortable in their surroundings. There is a private walk to the beach which you can lock at will. Overall, the pictures do not do this casita justice. It is even more beautiful when you see it with your own eyes and feel the mist of the ocean while standing on the balcony. We will be staying there again next time we go!
boogie boarding, body surfing
|Refundable Damage Deposit||£400|
The Casita is a private and self contained unit with it's own entrance and private terrace; however, it does share the pool, jetted jacuzzi and entrance to the beach with the main house.
