An amazing house with unbelievable views in an unspoilt location

  • 5 of 5

The house is simply beautiful, an unspoilt medieval property but with all the mod cons you need, located on the highest street of the village. Yes, getting to it requires some effort but it is so worth it!

The view from the sitting room is unimpeded by other buildings overlooking a panoramic viewpoint others trek miles to see. There's everything at this property that you could want, the garden with lemon and orange trees is spectacular and the perfect place to relax and enjoy the view over the village to the sea beyond. There are so many distinct sitting areas it's difficult to decide which one to use, we opted to follow the sun or shade as the fancy took us.

The kitchen is well equipped and the bathroom all you could want.

The village of Frigiliana is beautiful, relatively unspoilt by tourism. No cars can pass above the lower areas of the village so mules are the local transport, this makes for a very peaceful stay!

There are abundant restaurants in the village, we favoured El Mirabar. We also self catered, there's a Lidl on the road into Nerja if you don't want to buy everything from the local supermarkets (which have just about everything you could want).

We had such a fabulous holiday here we booked immediately to return next year. Penelope, the owner, couldn't have been more responsive and helpful.

All in all I cannot speak too highly of this property, my only concern is that it will become so popular we won't be able to get a booking!

Owner's Response: Thank you Mel, you are most welcome back anytime. It warms my heart to hear the enthusiasm that my clients feel for the house, garden and the beautiful village. Frigiliana is built on the intersection of some of the Earth’s Ley lines and many have attributed their sense of well being there to this source, something worth noting. However I also believe the good Karma that is felt in my home is the residual spirit of the series of happy vacationers that have enjoyed my house and Frigiliana over the 40 years of my ownership. Best wishes to you all. Penelope

Hi Penelope

We had such a wonderful time in your house in Frigiliana. We loved your House, the garden and Frigiliana. I would love to og back there someday. Rosario was very kind. It's a very special place, and a holiday that I will remember with thankfulness and joy.

Beautiful house and garden

  • 5 of 5

We visited this place with our familiy and enjoyed it very much. The interior of the house is modest but cosy and equipped with furnitures in 'Andalusian style'. Behind the house there is an amazing garden with orange trees, an old figue tree and many other plants. From here you have a fantastic view over the whole village, the surrounding hills and the sea.

Apart from that Frigiliana is a picturesque village. Of course it is a bit touristic, but nothing compared to the cities along the coastline.

Close to Heaven

  • 5 of 5

The location is one of the most beautiful I've experienced. The owner's information was accurate and helpful. The property was well-maintained, well-furnished, pleasant in every way. We took advantage of the excellent restaurants, some of the local sites and hiking opportunities. Be forewarned however (as the owner explained to us) that access to the apartment is by steep cobbled streets - strictly on foot. This is simply part of the package for many locations in this delighful town. Pack what you can comfortably carry and don't let the schlepp deter you. It's worth it!

Don't miss Frigiliana!

  • 5 of 5

From a distance the sun drenched village looks pasted to the hillside, a stretch of whitewashed medieval houses terraced against the face of a small mountain. The house, built on the highest level of the town, looks over red-tiled roofs and low-lying hills to the Mediterranean Sea 5 kilometers away. Access is by foot over ancient streets, paved in Moorish designs and overhung with bougainvillea. The deep, rich history of the town demands attention at almost every step; you think about the times when Moors, Christians and Jews moved peacefully through these narrow winding streets. We found the house charming, renovated to modern standards while retaining some quaint touches--the worn stairway with its uneven risers won our hearts. The place was clean, the furnishings comfortable for our party of three adults, and the neighbors friendly and helpful. In the garden behind the house we picked oranges for breakfast and lemons for afternoon drinks; we ate in outdoor splendor or walked for dinner to one or another of the nearby restaurants. In the village the pottery store featured pots from different Spanish locations--all of it appealing. It was so pleasant to be in Frigiliana that we hardly wanted to leave, though the Mediterranean beaches and caves in Nerja, and the magnificent Alhambra just an hour away couldn't be missed.

Don't pass up the chance to stay in this unbelievably beautiful spot!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your charming and insightful review of your vacation in my house and garden. The house does have an exceptional location, and it takes exceptional guests to recognise what they have found, and this warms my heart! I am taking a trip myself next month and will indeed be squeezing lemons from the garden. Best wishes, Penelope

Car: recommended

Frigiliana overlooks the Med from its perch in the mountains about 4 miles from the coast. It is recognised as one of the prettiest Moorish villages in Southern Spain, has a wealth of excellent restaurants and remains relatively unspoilt.

As a resident in the village you will have access to a brand new local health club & Olympic size swimming pool. Small cobblestone streets and steps will connect you to Frigilaiana's many breathtaking vistas. There are also many interesting trips to be made into the surrounding country side, by mule or by car.

Local wines, oliveoil and fresh fruits and vegetables are abundant. With the mountains to the north and east and the sea hypothetically at your fingertips, it is hard to find a village in the South of Spain that is more enchanting.
