About Mitchell Hentkowski

I grew up just 7 miles down Leer Rd from the Mill and never really paid much attention this place growing up. I went into the military right out of high school and ended up living in Oklahoma. Through the years when we would visit family each summer we would leave and talk about finding some property that we could build a summer home. In 2014 we purchased the property next door and talked for 2 years with the owner about buying all of the original Elowsky Mill Property and in Jan 2016 decided it was time to ensure we could keep the original property in tact with a single owner..

Mitchell Hentkowski purchased this chateau / country house in 2016

Why Mitchell Hentkowski chose Posen

When we first walked the property next door in the fall of 2011, the Owner wanted to sell both parcels at one time. At the time, we could not afford it and I could not see how I would utilize the property. After we purchased the southern portion of the land and stayed there over the last couple of years I became more and more interested in keeping all of the historic property together. After many lookers and attempts by potential buyers, the property remained available, for what I believe was meant to be. When you visit this wonderful place and see the beauty of the area and the history of the Mill, you also will understand why!

What makes this chateau / country house unique

If you are looking for a vacation that the only thing you have to do is relax, then this is the place for you. Sitting on one of the deck or the swing over looking the Thunder Bay River and Mill Pond, you can listen the birds for as long as you like. If you like to fish, the river and pond will provide a mixture of Northern pike, Bass and pan fish. If you enjoy swimming you can do that also down by the mill. There is a canoe and a paddle boat to enjoy the river and pond. You can walk the nearly two miles of trails on the southern portion of the property through acres of beautiful Northern Michigan hardwood forest. In the evening you can start a fire in the pit, sit on the swing and watch one of the most beautiful sunsets you will see anywhere. If you enjoy taking pictures, get up early and see if you can catch the local Eagles or possibly the family of Otters or Beavers. We have Canadian Geese nesting with us on the pond each year. Once you visit, you will understand why the words I have here cannot give justice to this wonderful land, and why when you visit you also will look forward to the next time you can visit.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Enjoyed the peace and quite, watching deer early in the morning drinking at the rivers edge. Had a tour of the mill and found it very interesting, enjoyed exploring the property and the area. The property is clean and well maintained.

Great, spacious, dog friendly cabin

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic time here! The cabin was roomy enough to comfortably fit ten people and four dogs. The surrounding property was so beautiful. Our dogs loved running through the fields and trails. Tammy was so nice and super informative about the Mill and the area. We will definitely be coming back in the summer or fall! I also want to add, this is a great place for pet owners. The additional pet fee was very reasonable and there were no crazy restrictions.

Dream Home.

  • 5 of 5

Thank you Hemlock Hills family for your hospitality in letting us stay at your wonderful cabin. Our family enjoys getting away for a few days during the July 4th weekend and this was the perfect place. The kitchen was well stocked with all amenities that one would need and the five bedrooms worked great for a family .The beds were extra comfortable.

I can't wait to come back another time. Thank you again for sharing your house with us. We look forward to staying there again in the future.

Special thanks to Tammy for meeting us personally and sharing history which is really awesome.

Great family gathering at Hemlock Hills!

  • 4 of 5

My family had a great time staying at the Hemlock Hills property for a reunion/hunting trip. Beds were comfortable, kitchen well-equipped, and plenty of seating for the 10 of us. We enjoyed the tour of the historic mill. Bonfire pit was awesome.

Pure Bliss!

  • 5 of 5

I was blessed with the opportunity to hold the first wedding on the property, and to utilize the newly remodeled barn and pavilion. I was an amazing experience! All of our guests said it was the best wedding they'd ever been to, and were blown away by the gorgeous setting; with the Thunder Bay River winding through the property, rolling fields, and the historic Grist Mill as a backdrop. Incredible for photos!

The spacious main house was perfect for hosting family and friends throughout the weekend, and had everything you would need stocked and ready for you. The venue was so gorgeous with the big barn and wagon wheel chandeliers. The pavilion was perfect, with a serving kitchen, dining area, bar and bathrooms, all constructed in barn wood. The property has a large fire pit, and wooden porch swings tucked in along the river, the perfect place to watch the stars.

The owners of Hemlock Hills on Mill Pond, LLC are an incredible family to work with. They truly cared about making sure everything went flawlessly throughout the weekend, and during the wedding itself. I cannot say enough positive about our experience!

Surprisingly nice stay in Posen

  • 5 of 5

My first choice would have been to stay at my sister's for this unexpected trip home, but my big sis beat me to those rooms. Next, the house on the lake, but that was long since taken for July 4 weekend. The first person who had agreed to a VRBO rental gave it to his sister. We needed at least four bedrooms for this family gathering. So staying in Posen was my distant fourth choice. Texas, Alaska, and Florida came together for four days in one house that we didn't really mean to choose, but nothing else was left.....

And what a great choice it turned out to be. We had five bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, so no waiting in line. The kitchen was well-stocked and that meant that breakfast was easily prepared. The dining area was great. My oldest son maybe forgot that there was cable TV and internet and put the card aside so the kids were outside all weekend. The house was a little into the countryside so when big sis mentioned that the family dinner was being moved to my place there was no conflict with the neighbors, and no parking problems since there is a huge long paved drive with outbuildings that had parking. We also had that lazy river where the kids and took turns with the kayaks and paddle boat and the adults got to see beavers and deer and rabbits along the Thunder Bay as they slow-paddled. There was a bear sighted down the road. We have photos.

One of our party uses a wheelchair so we took a table outside under the beautiful tall trees and picnicked there even though the downstairs was wheelchair accessible once he got onto the big porch. There was lots of paved access outside so the chair could go everywhere safely . We had about 30 people gathered and plenty of room for dinner, hiking in old-growth forest (saw something black and furry. I say mink, spouse said big ol' cat) and just sitting down by the river near the firepit. The mill wasn't open but made for great photos and-ok- a little inappropriate exploring by one camera nut. The hosts even shut off the security light so we could stargaze in the perfect dark. EXCELLENT vacation. We'll be back.
