Our modern, south-facing traditional in style town house, containing 2 self-contained apartments and situated in the quiet and oldest part of Port Vendres ‘La Citra' . Each of the 4 floors measures 32sq. metres and is purpose-built into two well-appointed apartments;

LOWER GROUND FLOOR: Garage (reserved for studio 1A. limited height in doorway of 1m 77cm & length of 4 metres) Laundry inside at back of garage with washer / dryer for use of all clients. On street PAYING parking & in the Place d’Obelisque are readily available.

GROUND FLOOR: - 1A. STUDIO "GRENACHE” studio suitable for a single person or couple. Facility of a baby’s cot if required - 32sq metres consisting of spacious living, dining, kitchen & sleeping areas & separate well designed shower room. Terracotta tiles throughout & double glazed. About Kate & Ted Hiscock

We are a British couple who have built a second home in Port Vendres, which we visit 3 or 4 times a year. We were both previously employed by the National Health Service in the UK. Our UK home is adjacent to a canal in the middle of Britain's Second city of Birmingham.

Being our second home we have equipped both apartments to a standard we would not consider a holiday compromise. We think the studio apartment is very suitable for those people wanting a holiday in relaxed quiet surroundings with easy access to shops, restaurants, walks, site-seeing, bird watching, wine tasting, etc but with the facility of enjoying home cooking and comforts within the house, if so desired. We love this region during the winter months with the crisp but warmer weather than other regions.

What makes this apartment unique

We believe our studio apartment complements all the positive aspects of Port Vendres and this region that makes us feel so at home here and make any stay to be relaxing and memorable. The uniqueness of this whole region adds further complement to the facilities offered by Port Vendres. This countryside, coast and exceptional climate are what we fell in love with many years ago and still feel the magic when we come and want other people to enjoy the same excitement.

  • The DOUBLE BED is set within a well constructed elegant cupboard, with pine slat roller-shutter and is easily operated by an electric motor. When the bed is to be used, the roller-shutter is easily rolled up and the counter-balanced bed lowered to the floor with the greatest of ease, whilst the linen is held in place on the bed by straps. Bedding is provided and EXTRA BLANKETS can be found in the vertical box at the head of the bed. A BABY COT for a young child is available with prior notice at no extra cost.

The GROUND FLOOR STUDIO apartment, although not directly accessible by wheel chair, ( one step down), is suitable for a middle- aged and elderly couple and once over the entry doorstep, storage of a wheelchair is easy and accessibility of facilities is easy.The GARAGE (max. ht. 1.77m & 4m long) is underneath and accessed from the street in front, (Rue de l'Egalité). There is space for a small car reserved for this studio-apartment. At the rear of the garage there is a LAUNDRY where a washer/dryer is available for all clients to use Sadly, we are not able to accept animals and ask clients to refrain from smoking inside the apartment. The television doubles as a DVD player. There is no land line telephone but internet reception is available. Although no stereo, iPod/radio facilities are good. We provide a recipe folder suitable for regional produce, which is readily available from the market on Saturday mornings/Collioure on Wednesday and Sunday, local shops or fresh fish on the quay.

Superb very well equipped studio

This little studio is ideal for a couple and was spotlessly clean and very well equipped. The owner had thought of everything that was necessary for a pleasant holiday. The fold out bed was very comfortable and very easy to use. There is a garage for the car which was very useful too. A few hundred yards away you will find a boulangerie and there are 2 wine shops too. On Saturdays there was a superb market with everything you could wish to eat as well as the usual shoes etc. There are good supermarkets within driving distance and even a Lidl.

We spent 3 weeks there and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. There was a very reliable broadband connection and I was able to email the owner for any advice.

Ted Hiscock, the owner had left very comprehensive details of walks, interesting places to visit and hints on getting around. We took his advice and used the 1€ bus along the coast and the train to Perpignan. The bus was great for visiting Coulioure as parking is such a problem there.

We drove over into Spain using the scenic coastal route and visited Salvador Dali's house in Cadaques and another time we drove via the main road to Figueres where we visited the wonderful Salavador Dali museum. If you are in Port Vendres in July the festivities for the quatorze are really good and the firework display over the harbour spectacular. The lovely town of Ceret is not far away and we were able to enjoy the Feira de Ceret when they ran the bulls through the streets and other street entertainment.

The harbour in Port Vendres is stunning and there is the Charles Renee Macintosh trail to visit too. The nearby seaside town of Banyuls sur Mer was lovely and the restaurants good value.

We had a wonderful holiday in this studio in Port Vendres and would definitely recommend it.

'At Home' in Port Vendres, on the Mediterranean

I have enjoyed this Port Vendres studio apartment, for four months. I chose this apartment because of its very close proximity to the town and its immaculate and welcoming condition. The furnishings are excellent and comfortable. I enjoy cooking and this kitchen is so well equipped that I have been able to cook and bake just as I wanted; even a dishwasher is provided ! The excellent year-round Saturday market can be seen from the dining window; available are countless wonderful fresh products to fashion super meals, clothes to extend one's wardrobe, and ready-made french-style meals to treat oneself. Trying to test most of the many varied and delicious cheeses at one of the cheese booths was one of my favourite challenges.

I recommend this apartment to anyone, single or a couple. On my own and female, I was concerned with evening outings, but I have found that the streets are very well lighted and Port Vendres is a calm and safe town, rather quiet at night. The owners Kate and Ted supply lots of useful information about the town, the many features it has to offer, the neighbouring towns, countless amazing trails to explore, and detailed history of the area. As mentioned in other reviews, it is amazing to travel by bus for 1€. One can also plan and reserve a ticket ahead of time with the train system. That 'registration' step allowed me to travel as far away as Nimes for 1€...incredible !

Much as the apartment is great, what I always find the most important is the relationship one has with the proprietors. Kate and Ted the owners genuinely care that you are comfortable, have what you need, and they will quickly attend to anything required. I feel that they have gone above and beyond what is required of them. Friends of mine from afar in France wanted to visit me in this area. Kate and Ted made that possible in the upper apartment with very short notice, and with extreme efficiency. It was as wonderful as you could hope for.

I came to France from Canada to improve my French. Over the course of four months I have found this an excellent home and locale from which to further explore other areas of France and even closeby Spain. This won't happen with everyone but Kate and Ted even introduced me to several local women who have been just wonderful french-speaking friends throughout my stay. Many thanks Kate and Ted.

Like home.....

Well…How can I start…the best way is by to say that by choosing this apartment at this precise location we experienced one of the best cost-effective holidays since our last vacation we went to Turkey.

What we really liked about this apartment is the fact that we felt like home since we immediately succumbed to its uniqueness in term of charm and welcoming atmosphere that people like us looked for when we want to rent a place for our holidays. The design was very convenient and the decoration was simply superb...The apartment was at the image of the city Port-Vendres, small but very convivial….

The apartment is extremely clean, well-maintained and is ideally convenient for 4 adults (or 2 adults and 2 kids) but we did manage to fit 6 people in the apartment without any issues, especially when considering that we have fighting and arguing teenagers. You will also meet the neighbours who are fantastic and ready to help you with advices….

The apartment is particularly well located and close to everything which is a must when you are in vacation since you become lazy: we were at walking distance from most of the beaches, shops (including Lidl at 5 min with daily hot croissant and breads) and Port-vendres center city (also 2 min) where you can enjoy different types of fish. Thus, you do not need to use your car. In addition, there is bus that can take you around the area (as far as Perpignan) for a symbolic price of 1 Euro….You can enjoy the beaches of Argeles, St Cyprien as well…

The owner “Dr” Ted was very helpful throughout our journey and has provided a number of different tour guides in the apartment.

Would I recommend the property to someone else…Would I come back as well…the answer is definitively yes…

July 2014 Port Vendres

This is a lovely apartment, clean, fresh, well-equipped and modern, but with the appearance still of a traditional French home.

The location is ideal, well-placed to access all of the local shops and amenities. The neighbours are friendly French people who are very welcoming, as are the local cafe owners and shopkeepers.

The Poissonerie, 5 minutes walk away, has recently re-opened and is a fantastic place to enjoy a chilled glass of wine and some tapas dishes, or a full- blown 3 course meal of freshly-caught fish.

All in all, a great base to explore the lovely towns of Port Vendres and Collioure. We will definitely be back.

Great Holiday For Solo Travellers

I wholeheartedly support everything positive that everybody has already said about this apartment and Port Vendres. In addition, I would like to add that my extended stay here proved that both are absolutely perfect for solo travellers. As a lone female I was totally comfortable in the apartment and exploring the local area, both on foot and using the buses (all rides cost just €1.....even as far as Perpignan - the nearest city and a lovely day out). I had no need for a car at all. In fact, I discovered a wonderful owner-operated company called "Perpicat" that provides a genial and reliable airport transfer service between Collioure (Port Vendres' wonderful neighbouring town) and Girona airport for just €25. Without even leaving Port Vendres, you can walk to 3 supermarkets, a range of smaller specialist shops, the weekly market, multiple bars and restaurants (I only ever received friendly and helpful service even though I don't speak French and I happily ate out alone), small beaches, great walking routes, a Tourist Information Office and even a small cinema/theatre (films are shown here in English for visitors and the local expats - ask for the schedule in the Tourist Information Office). I had a fabulous time and wouldn't hesitate to recommend a stay here to anybody travelling alone. Even the neighbours made me feel welcome. One final thing - the internet connection in the apartment is fast and totally reliable. I worked online throughout my stay without a single hiccup.

Well-appointed, two double-bedroomed apartment

The property was easy to find, and everything was as we had anticipated (and better). We even had access to the garage. The owners manage and maintain this flat to a high standard. We appreciated the fact that it feels like a home not a "rental" and has a really well-equipped kitchen, lots of UK adaptors and masses of information. The beds were really comfortable and there was ample wardrobe / hanging space for clothes. The location of the flat is very central and convenient for shops, bars, and the Saturday market. We found Port Vendres to be a charming, working port with plenty of tourist attractions (boat trips, restaurants, beaches, walks) and an interesting history and culture (catalan). In fact we preferred it to the much more touristy Collioure. It is a great place for lovers of seafood. We also found it to be well-placed for the golf at Saint-Cyprien (20 mins). Communication with the owners was a pleasure and we would certainly recommend this property.

With an exceptional micro-climate set under the Pyrenees, in the most southern part of Mediterranean France this region of Pyrénées-Orientales boasts the longest hours of sunshine per year for mainland France. This exceptionally robust climate means wonderful Mediterranean light, bright sunsets and magnificent sunsets. This is French Catalonia, affectionately known locally as Le Roussillon.

PORT VENDRES, a town with about 8000 residents, is only 20km from the Spanish frontier; many speak Catalan as well as French and Spanish. English is widely spoken. Barcelona is only a 2 hour drive and one can be skiing in the Pyrenées resort of Font Romeu in 2 hours. Salvador Dali museum is 45 minutes away.

The town is gathered around a deep natural harbour buzzing with activities:- a fishing fleet with sale of fresh fish from the quay, a marina, regular container ship deliveries from North Africa, summer cruise liner visitors, variety of sea sports & many site-seeing opportunities.

Nestling under the Pyrenees means, a variety of walks from the house are very easy and spectacular views of mountain peaks and craggy coasts dominate. (See P-O Life Magazine e.g. www.anglophone-direct.com/Walk-Banyuls-sur-Mer-to-Port ) This is the fine wine country of Roussillon with the immediate zone around Port Vendres being the prestigious production of Collioure & Banyuls wines. Port Vendres is flush with choice of restaurants, bars and local shops all clustered around the picturesque harbour.

At a mere 3km from Port Vendres is the jewel in the crown of this coast, COLLIOURE (of Matisse, Dufy & Derain fame); it can be reached by a half hour walk along the coast. Parking can be a big problem in Collioure so the convenience of Port Vendres' proximity is an added bonus. Picasso, Braque and Charles Rennie Mackintosh also famously set up their easels here attracted by the exceptional light, idyllic rugged and magical countryside. Only 45 minutes inland by car is CERET, where the art world a century ago also embraced this other charming town, which sports a wonderful and progressive Musuem of Moderne Art where an exemplary permanent collection of Picasso, Matisse, Dufy and Derain works of art can be seen.

Perpignan (capital of the region), is a fascinating city and reached by bus for only 1€.

There are a number of convenient airports: Barcelona, Girona, Perpignan, Carcassonne, Beziers, Car hire from these airports is easy, or public transport systems to and from the airports of Girona and Perpignan in particular are easy by train or bus.There is an added facility of a local company called Perpicat who will collect from nearby Collioure and deliver by minibus to Perpignan, Girona or Barcelona airports for very modest fees. www.perpicat.com


The French train system is fast and well connected. For UK travellers,Eurostar from St Pancras in London to Lille or Paris and then changing to the TGV will go straight to Perpignan, where a local train will take the final stage of the journey in 4 stops. This service now goes all the way to Barcelona.


For those who have time, the journey by car is a competitive price with the added pleasure of staying in good family run hotels en route. We usually travel this way and can recommend places to stay.
