About Meriel and Annabel

This is a family run holiday let, between a mother and two daughters.

Meriel and Annabel purchased this house in 1940

Why Meriel and Annabel chose North Cornwall

Our Great Grandmother bought it in 1940's (one of the first houses in Trevone) when she returned home from India on the P&O Cruiser Nellore. She settled here for a number of years before passing it on to her daughter who in turn passed it on to her daughter, our mother who continues to run it with us.

What makes this house unique

Having been the destination for the vast majority of our summer holidays we love introducing our children to the excitement and pleasures that Nellore, Trevone and Cornwall have to offer. Come rain or shine, there is never a shortage of things to do. We have had visitors returning to us for up to 40 years who like us continue to return year after year many now with their grandchildren.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We all had a great time, the boys made beach friends and enjoyed rock climbing, crabbing and stream damming, mum and dad exhausted by early morning - granny and grandpa rested and enjoyed 'Nellore'. Was a wonderful base - spacious and comfortable and within sight and sound of the sea. What more could we ask?

Wonderful week

  • 4 of 5

Plenty of space and well located, steps from the beach and a great cafe/bar and local shop. The furnishings have seen younger days and might be the only slight negative. Padstow was fun and full of people, shops and restaurants. We had dinner at Stein's famous fish restaurant and thought our meal at the local cafe on the Thursday evening was more memorable and certainly better value! The coastal walks were breathtaking and can't wait to come back. In fact we have booked to come again in September.

Our family of 4 including 2 young children stayed for the may half-term week in at Nellore and had a wonderful time. The cottage is in the perfect location right on the beach within 20 seconds walks of the beach shop/cafe. Excellent farm shop up the road also. Would definitely recommend this cottage and holiday experience in Trevone.

Fantastic location, spacious family home.

  • 5 of 5

A quite literal "stones throw" from the beautiful Trevone Bay. This house was perfectly located and fully equipped to provide a stress free beach holiday. The rooms are all large, airy and comfortable.

8 of us (4 adults and 4 children) stayed in Nellore over New Year and had a lovely time. We felt the property was good value for money. It's not the most luxurious property you could rent but warm, well equiped and comfortable. The position is incredible. Being opposite the beach was fantastic and led to the kids being really keen to go for walks. Trevone has 2 beaches which provides even more variety. We were lucky to have a beautiful winter sunset too.

Thank You!

Lovely old-fashioned family beach holiday

  • 5 of 5

This is a perfect place for a three generation family holiday. The house has everything you need for comfort and convenience. We particularly enjoyed the views, eating in the garden behind the protective hedge, the proximity of the beach where the 9 year olds spent many hours floating on the surfboards, digging holes and fishing in the rock pools while we lazed nearby. One evening we had a barbecue on the beach watching the sunset and eating sandy hotdogs and not the mackerel the two fishermen in the household failed to catch. The walks near the house are excellent in all directions to the lovely surfing beach in one direction and over the cliffs past the blow hole in the other. We also did one strenuous day of cycling along the Camel trail from Padstow to Bodmin and back when our 9 year olds were mighty impressed with themselves for covering 26 miles. All in all a perfect old-fashioned beach holiday.

The cottage is located in the picturesque village of Trevone Bay. Trevone is a small village, full of character and with so much in the village to explore, most holiday makers spend much of their time here. Trevone’s sandy bay is full of character with rock pools and streams for the children to play in, while the adults find one of the many cosy sunny corners to relax in. The lifeguarded bay provides the perfect place to take a dip in the sea or to try your hand at surfing (hire available locally). Whereas Trevone’s rocky beach is a vast expanse of rocks, gullies, caves and rock pools to explore, perfect for crabbing, fishing with nets, beachcombing and hunting for shells. The rocky beach has its own natural swimming pool, which is revealed as the tide goes out. In addition to the beaches Trevone has many varied walks. The coastal path to the South West is a flat easy footpath which gently winds along the coast to Harlyn Bay. The coastal path to the North East takes you past Trevone’s famous blowhole, along the stunning rugged coastline to Padstow. Trevone has a farm shop, a church, a pub, a beach café/hire, and a surf shop.

Just outside the village (2 miles away) there is the famous harbour town of Padstow, with plenty of restaurants, cafes and shops.

Padstow is the home of Rick Stein’s famous sea food restaurant, bistro, fish and chip shop, delicatessen and cookware shop.

Padstow is the perfect place to enjoy an icecream or a Cornish pasty and watch the boats come in and out.

Or why not hire a bike and cycle along the Camel trail – a scenic flat cycle trail along the estuary, or enjoy a visit to the National Trust Property of Pencarrow, or take the ferry over to Rock and try your hand at windsurfing or sailing.

Padstow also offers boat rides to see puffins, fishing trips or for the more adventurous speed boat trips around the estuary.

For Golfers Cornwall has some of the most picturesque courses in the UK, with Trevose Golf Club just a few miles away.

Trevone is also a great base for visiting the cathedral town of Truro (14 miles away), which has excellent shopping, museums and restaurants.

Other local attractions include the world famous Eden Project (A living theatre of plants and people - 22 miles away) and The Lost Gardens of Helligan. Similarly children will have plenty to do as there are many local activity centres and theme parks in Cornwall, with Cornwall’s Crealy Adventure Park just 5 miles away. For more activities, Newquay (14 miles away) has an aquarium, zoo, Dairyland, boating lake, an adventure centre offering activities such as zip wire, abseiling, coasteering, and jet ski tours. Cornwall has a wide variety of National Trust properties, gardens, museums, and other places of interest.
