This is a luxurious penthouse apartment with direct lift access into the living room. It has been furnished in a contemporary style with high quality fitments and furnishings. There are two terraces one of which is exceptionally large with panoramic views of the countryside and Alora´s Moorish Castle which is perched on top of a hill and looks particularly spectacular and romantic at night when illuminated. Alora is a traditional Andalucian whitewashed village sitting on top of the hills of El Hacho which is 400 metres above sea level. As well as being able to soak in the atmosphere of a traditional Spanish working village, with its narrow, winding, cobbled streets and local shops, you will find a wide variety of restaurants and tapas bars. Alora is very popular with golfers, walkers, climbers and watersports enthusiasts as it is only 12 km from the beautiful lakes of El Chorro. It has excellent communication links with Malaga, Antequerra, Ronda, the airport and the Costa del Sol.
A self-catering rental with views a Moorish Castle, Alora town and countryside.

About Helen Matthews
We are a couple from London and decided to escape the rat race and started a idyllic life here in Alora. My husband is an ex-chef in restaurants in London and hotels back in the Far East while my line of work is public relations.
Helen Matthews purchased this Apartment in 2008
Why Helen Matthews chose Álora
We saw this property when our builder was still constructing it. All the 5 units were sold to local Spanish residents except the Penthouse. He showed the penthouse to us and we could not believe the views when we reached the top and lead us to the two terraces. We bought it on the spot because of the views and the location which is in the historic part of town, very close to the shops, banks and restaurants. It was one of the best decision we had made.
What makes this Apartment unique
The top floor of the penthouse is not shared with any other flat. The lift goes straight to the living room and with the help of a key opens right into the apartment, very impressive indeed. The plot of the building is at an elevated position and so it has a commanding view of the countryside, mountains and the Moorish Castle. We will forever have these views.

First class penthouse apartment
The apartment is very well equipped and spotless. Great terraces, providing all day sunshine. Great central location in the town, but tucked away in a quiet spot. We used the garage at the apartment block. Fortunately we had a Fiat 500, as the roads are narrow, very narrow in places. We travelled to Malaga for a day trip and used the excellent train service from the town. All in all, we had a great time and are already planning a return visit next year.
DEFINITELY ONE TO VISIT!!!
If you want to experience a real Andalucian village and feel like a local - away from the crowds and tourists then Alora is for you. Just a half hour train journey from Malaga Airport - it is easy to get to and when your hosts meet you at the station in Alora it couldn’t be simpler. Helen and Steve are wonderful hosts and from the moment you meet them you realise how passionate they are about the business they run - it really is a labour of love. On our way to our apartment we were given a whistle stop tour of our surroundings before arriving at the penthouse - accessed by the lift that can only take you to the 3rd Floor by key. The apartment is spacious and well equipped both internally and on the large balcony together with wonderful almost 360 views! Something you never get bored of waking up to. No car is required as train/buses are nearby. A trip to Malaga is a must - we also spent a day in Ronda - it would be good to stay overnight here as plenty to see and do and it’s a one and a half hour train journey.
Plenty of shops in Alora within easy walking distance - a large supermarket where you can stock up and a super shopping trolley which enables you to transport your shopping back to the apartment quite easily. Also great to visit the local butchers/ fishmongers/
bakeries and small grocers to try out your Spanish (in our case very limited!)
Very good choice of Restaurants/Tapas Bars - Bar Marin Fish Restaurant an absolute must - no need to dress up - quite basic but fantastic food and not at all expensive. Try out the tapas in the local bars and mingle with the locals who are very friendly and don’t seem to mind our lame attempts at communication!
To summarise a great apartment with exceptional hosts - absolutely nothing is too much trouble (we embarrassingly also locked ourselves out and Steve came to our rescue!). Helen and Steve’s aim is solely to ensure that your holiday is one to remember for all the right reasons! DEFINITELY ONE TO VISIT
Thank you Helen and Steve! (Joanne & Steve L - stayed Sept 7th to 18th 2018)
It was a pleasure to meet you both Joanne and Steve and such a delight to have spent time with you sampling the food of the newly opened Indian Restaurant. It is so refreshing to meet such positive and outgoing people.
We look forward to seeing you both again in the near future.
Stunning penthouse apartment with stunning views
When I entered the penthouse directly from the lift, I thought wow how private. The penthouse was well equipped and very clean and tasteful. The sun terrace is absolutely amazing with stunning views of the castle, churches, the beautiful white washed village and the rolling hills. Waking up every morning to the birds singing and the cockerels chanting was just wonderful. We really enjoyed our stay, my partner has visited this penthouse on three previous occasions with friends and was excited fir me to experience this beautiful place. We shall certainly return.
Great views and well presented
Loved the area for good quality walking. Trains make access to Malaga and other resorts easy. Apartment lived up to the reviews and did not fail to deliver. The welcome hamper provided is the best we have ever had and took some pressure off that first night. Lovely hosts who meet and greet and. Show you around.
Heaven, just heaven
Total attention to detail as per usual. Great views, friendly locals, can’t wait to visit again
Beautifully equipped modern penthouse apartment in centre of Alora
Alora is accessible by rail from Malaga Airport. It is also possible to visit Sevilla, Córdoba and Ronda by train. Use of a garage is included in the rental but the streets are narrow and not for the faint hearted driver! Best to use the car park on the edge of town.
Alora is also handy for the Caminto del Rey.
The owners are very helpful with nothing being a bother to them. The welcome hamper lasted us all week.
Alora is a traditional Andalucian whitewashed village sitting on top of the hills of El Hacho, which is 400 metres above sea level. Agricultural produce is mainly olive, almonds, goat milk for cheese and oranges and lemons. Alora has great train links to the Costa del Sol for the beaches, the City of Malaga, Seville, Granada and Cordoba. What is great about the place is its central location, quite accessible to Antequerra, Historic Ronda, Jerez to sample sherry in the bodegas. As well being able to soak in the atmosphere of a traditional Spanish working village, with its narrow, winding, cobbled streets and local shops, you will find a wide variety of restaurants and tapas bars.
Alora is very popular with golfers, walkers and climbers as it is only 20 minutes from the beautiful Andalucian Lake District of El Chorro, famous for its gorge and rock climbing, water sports, fishing or just go for a picnic and a dip in the lake.
Golf courses like Laura Golf, Alhuarin Golf, Parador Golf, Campanilla Golf are only 20 to 30 minutes drive away while Antequera Golf is 40 minutes drive away.
A lot of travelers use Alora as a base to do traveling around because of its proximity to the touring area of Ronda, Seville, Jerez, Granada, Cordoba, Antequera, Torcal National Park and the City of Malaga and a train ride away to the beaches of Costa del Sol.
Alora has abundance of beautiful scenery and memorable landscapes whichever direction you look. In specific terms, to the north is the Central Limestone Arch with enormously impressive ranges like to Sierra de Huma (1,191 metres) and the Pass of Los Gaitanes. To the west is the Sierrad de Aguas (949 metres). It has excellent communication links with the City of Malaga, El Chorro, Antequera, Ronda, Torcal National Park, Seville, Cordoba and Madrid. To go to the nearest beach, Malaga or Torremolinos, is just 30 minutes away while golf courses are also 30 minutes drive away in various directions.
