Amazing Place, Amazing Owner!

5 of 5

This house is absolutely beautiful and in a great location. The living room is a nice wide open space, great for bigger groups of people as there is tons of room to mingle. Basically, every room is great - exactly as pictured. Can't say one bad thing about it! PLUS, Vic, the owner, is an amazing host. He helped us out with the house, gave advice and was overall lovely. Would 100% recommend to EVERYONE!

Best Place in Town

5 of 5

I loved staying in this house. The house inspires people to have a good time in true luxury ski lodge fashion. The walls of windows bring the outdoors in, and the woodstove and heated floors let you be warm while enjoying the outdoors.

It is great in summer too. We have kayaked on the lake right outside the door and taken many swims. Autumn and spring are equally beautiful here too.

Magnificence on the Lake

5 of 5

I have stayed in this magnificent log mansion on a lake a few times and it is wonderful! The living room has a soaring wall of windows looking out on a small lake, with a mountain beyond. You can watch the sun travel across the skyline at sunset.

The wood stove in the living room and the heated ceramic floors in the kitchen and hall make it so cozy in winter! This multi-million dollar house was built by the owner for himself and is decorated meticulously, every detail was attended to.

The gourmet kitchen is a great place to cook or watch your friends cook while drinking wine at the long granite counter. The dining room with antler chandelier inspires hearty good times. The shower with a "wall of water spray" is great after skiing. The house is a luxurious relaxing place to spend some time, and feel like royalty. I can't wait to go back to this house!

Great home to stay at for any reason

5 of 5

Stayed here for a family reunion this summer, what a cool log cabin,so many things to do in the home, very impressive home.We had people aged from 4 thru 82 and everyone loved the house. The bar and backyard is set up perfect for a great party in and out of the house. The fire pit in the backyard is where we spent most of our time. The kids loved the playground and we can't wait to come back here again

Just as Amazing as the Pix

  • 5 of 5

It was perfection. Awesome place, clean and comfortable. Vic responds very quickly and so does the property manager. I would just recommend bringing extra TP, Tinfoil and dish soap if you have a large group. He provides initially but we were just running out towards the end of the trip.

It really is an epic place. Such a fun stay!

Amazing House, Awesome Location, Great Host

  • 5 of 5

I spend the weekend here for two of my friends' 30th birthday parties and we all loved the place and had a fantastic time. The house is gorgeous, very spacious (we were 17 and all slept comfortably), and full of fun areas to enjoy each others' company in. It's minutes from the mountain and also has a beautiful view of the lake it's on. We went during winter but the house has it's own private beach which I'm sure is awesome during warm weather. Victor and Gail were both super friendly and easy to coordinate logistics with. I would definitely recommend staying here and hope to be back during the summer time. Thanks Victor!

Sights to See in the Catskills

The Catskills are rich in history.

The Catskill Mountains provide less-traveled destinations and historic attractions despite their proximity to New York City. The earliest homes in the mountains date to the 17th century. Hiking and cross-country skiing trails wind through the region, and artists inspired by the area's natural beauty founded a uniquely American school of painting.

Museums

The Deposit Historical Society (deposithistoricalsociety.org) museum preserves artifacts from the town's lengthy history as a lumber transfer point and commercial center. A cutter, or sleigh, folk art carvings and period rooms are among the exhibits. The Bronck Museum and Barns (gchistory.org) near Coxsackie includes the oldest home in upstate New York. Built in 1663, the home has traditional Hudson Valley Dutch design elements. An 1830s 13-sided barn is the oldest of its type in the state, and a Victorian horse barn contains exhibits illustrating the history of Greene County, including a huge model of the Catskill Mountain House.

Outdoors

The 19-mile Catskill Scenic Trail (catskillscenictrail.org) runs through Delaware County. A rails-to-trails project, the hiking, biking and equestrian path follows the former Ulster and Delaware Railroad bed. The trail is an easy hike, and the more strenuous Utsayantha Trail System intersects the path in several locations near Stamford. A trail leads from a parking lot on Route 23A near Palenville past Bastion Falls to the base of Kaaterskill Falls, a 260-foot, two-tiered cascade. Four miles farther down the road, another trail leads to the top of the falls, where rocks bear the carved names of 18th century visitors.

Towns

Hobart calls itself the "Book Village of the Catskills." Shops in town sell used, rare and new books in every genre. The town hosts a range of literary events, from book signings to book fairs. An annual bookseller day includes vendor booths along Main Street manned by individuals selling their private collections. Travelers who only know Woodstock as the sight of an iconic music festival might be surprised to discover the village, founded as an art colony in 1902, is home to galleries, theatrical venues and dance companies. A hike to the Overlook Mountain fire tower provides views of the transition of the Hudson Valley to the Catskill Mountains.

Historic Homes

The nature writing and essays of 19th century naturalist John Burroughs encompass almost 30 books. Born in the Catskills, the author rubbed elbows with Theodore Roosevelt and Thomas Edison, and accompanied Edward Harriman and his scientists on his expedition to Alaska. Woodchuck Lodge south of North Blenheim (nysparks.state.ny.us), Burroughs's summer retreat, is open to the public. His grave is nearby. The Thomas Cole National Historic Site (thomascole.org) in the village of Catskill preserves the artist's home, Cedar Grove. Cole was the founder of the 19th century Hudson River School of painting that created large canvases depicting the region's mountainous landscapes.

Off the Beaten Path

The 6-acre Opus 40 (opus40.org) in Saugerties transformed an abandoned quarry into a sculpture of terraces and ramps with trees and fountains. Harvey Fite, the artist, worked on the sculpture for 37 years. The adjacent Quarryman's Museum contains a collection of tools. A barn silo in Mount Tremper contains the "World's Largest Kaleidoscope." Shows in the 56-foot-tall Kaleidostore (kaleidostore.com) include a light show that mimics the patterns of a kaleidoscope accompanied by music. The world's second-largest garden gnome stands behind Highway 209 at Kelder Farm in Kerhonkson. The farm also has gardens and a miniature golf course.
