Why Holly M. Bigelow chose Hungry Horse
This home is very special to us, as it is the first home we purchased as a young couple. It is one-of-a-kind, and you will never see another home like this. Everything inside is hand-built and unique. The location is very conveniently located, just off Highway 2, but still private and 'in the woods'.

This was a challenging stay....
We arrived after dark, from the north and the directions were for travel coming from the south and unfortunately heat was an issue upon our arrival, no wood by the stove, paper but no real kindling. Heat controls were in unusual places and after texting found the wood pile, so chopped wood for the fire that was great, but would have been nice to have a fire ready to go and maybe the outside light on. The bed in the master suite was horrible, a tunnel in the center, making us roll to the center. Lots of stairs in all parts of the house, so if you have any mobility limitations this is not the place for you. Close proximity to the Park was great and Hungry Horse proved to be a friendly helpful community.
This was clearly not the best house for this group of elderly folks to choose. They should have done their homework before booking. The stairs in each portion of the house are clearly visible in all of the photographs, and stairs are mentioned in the description of the house. The bed was replaced the same day that they brought it to my attention (after their stay), October 25, 2018. I have changed the directions in my "key code email" to make it easier for everyone. Check in is at 4:00 pm, during daylight hours.... There is a woodshed full of dry wood, approx. 15' from the front door. I firmly believe that if you can't chop your own kindling/firewood, or are not familiar with an ax/maul, you should not be using the wood stove. There is electric heat in the entire house, and it was set at 65 degrees when this party arrived.
We loved "Unique Retreat"!
We enjoyed our stay here. Loved the layout, landscape, privacy, comfy bed and hottub was a perfect plus after long days of hiking and sightseeing. This location close to Glacier NP was great. You won't be disappointed if you stay here. Hope to come back again.
Thanks Holly for everything!
Close to GNP
We enjoyed how close the house was to the park. I knew it had stairs but just did not realize how many stairs there were. We loved the hot tub, the kitchen was well stocked with all the amenities that were needed, the grounds were beautiful and the house was unique. A couple suggestions when giving directions to the house give some landmarks/businesses to look for we came from the opposite direction of the directions but there were no street names to look for and we all felt like the beds needed new mattresses they just weren't comfortable.
The directions to the house on the "key code email" were updated and are now hopefully easier to understand.
The master bedroom mattress was replaced on October 25, 2018.
Unique home, great location
We had a great time exploring Glacier National Park with this retreat as our home base. The home is clean and spacious, yet felt warm and cozy.
This was a perfect honeymoon house!
The house was well cared for and beautiful. It was in a serene setting and the hot tub right out the door was wonderful. It was well stocked and the bed was really comfortable! We would use this again for a special occasion.
Very happy with our house. Beautiful yard and setting. Clean. Friendly and pleasant to work with.
Loved it here. Truly unique and fun setting. Not far from park entrance. Clean and well supplied. Enjoyed pretty yard, deck and fire pit and grill.
Hungry Horse is a small community adjacent to the west entrance of Glacier National Park. Hungry Horse offers a handful of restaurants, two convenience stores, a grocery store, post office, laundromat, a bar and a liquor store. We also have a few great souvenir shops. Hungry Horse is located just inside the mountains on the way to Glacier, where the south fork of the Flathead River joins the middle fork.
