Overview

Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday cottage in Gloucester - The Cottage

Grade II listed self-catering rental suitable for families, walkers or lovers!

The Cottage, at Green Court Holiday Lets is on the ground floor of the East Wing in a very special Grade II listed, holiday let in the beautiful Cotswold village of Chalford. Just a short drive away is the 'Capital of the Cotswolds' Cirencester, Painswick, Cheltenham, Stroud, the antiques center of Tetbury, the World Heritage City of Bath, Bourton-on-the-Water, Stonehenge, Cardiff, The Forest of Dean and much more. The recently refurbished accommodation comprises a small porch, opening into a modern kitchen/living area complete with wood burner. There are 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom sleeping a maximum of 6 with 1 double, 1 twin and an overflow double sofa bed in the living room area. The property benefits from a small private terrace and garden. The cottage annex forms part of a large listed property, once occupied by the owner of one of the local mills. The cottage part of the house is believed to be about 400 years old in contrast to the more 'modern' Georgian West Wing of the house added around 1820 by the mill owner. Note: Also lovely 2 bed/2 bath Loft available, also listed on HomeAway (sleeping 6 max).

Chalford - the Alpine Village of the Cotswolds: Chalford is in some of the most beautiful countryside in the whole range of the Cotswolds. Nestled in the Golden Valley, one of Stroud's Five Valleys, Chalford is described as the Alpine Village due to its deep, well-wooded valleys. A walkers paradise with beauty around every corner.

Chalford was once a centre for the wool industry, with many beautiful old mills dotted through the valley, and the old Thames and Severn Canal running along the Valley bottom. Many houses you still can't drive to and the community of Chalford has a network of old donkey tracks for delivering goods and groceries.

The Cotswolds : The Cotswolds is 'quintessentially English' and still unspoiled. From Chalford and beyond you can enjoy the honey-coloured stone of the area, the dry-stone walls, the beautiful manor houses and quaint cottages both on and off the tourist trail.

Nearby are a myriad of activities from lazing around close to home, walking the Cotwold Way or the Five Valleys, enjoying the sights of places including Bath, Cirencester, Stow-on-the-wold or Bibury, playing golf, visiting Cotswold Wildlife Park, Prinknash Abbey or frolicking in The Cotswold Water Park ....

Please note: There is also a beautiful 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom loft available to rent either with the Cottage or separately. Check out listing # 1056073.

About Anna Simson

My husband and I fell in love with our beautiful Grade II listed home in the Cotswolds. We bought it in 2005 and have been lovingly refurbishing it since along with occasional help (and hindrance) from our young daughter, Freya, and our playful chocolate Labrador, Revel.

Anna Simson purchased this cottage in 2005

Why Anna Simson chose Cotswold district

We already knew the village of Chalford - the Alpine Village as it is often known - and loved the strong community feel, the beautiful valley and walks plus being so accessible from across the country.

What makes this cottage unique

Where to start? There are so many things to do from staying nearby and enjoying the walks, the river, the fresh air and beautiful Cotswold villages to travelling a little further and seeing the regency town of Bath or the spires of Oxford or the race courses, the polo, the wildlife park, playing golf, fishing ..... Even a day-trip to London is possible with a 1.25 hour train journey into Paddington.

Chalford Cottage

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here with our 3 children (aged 14, 11 and 4) and we all had a wonderful time. The cottage was very traditional and cosy but also had everything that a family would need. It was very clean and tidy, and we would definitely recommend it. The location is ideal with plenty to see and do in the area and the village of Chalford itself is very picturesque. The owners are a very friendly and accommodating couple. Excellent all round.

Quaint cottage in an idyllic Cotswold setting

  • 5 of 5

Had a really nice, comfortable weekend here with friends. The cottage is perfectly sized for a party of four adults (more than that would be a bit of a squeeze) and two little ones, and has everything you need for a weekend stay, including a barbecue (which we made good use of!). The town of Chalford is picturesque, if a little hair–raising to drive through, and the view from the cottage itself it beautiful. Very reasonably priced too, would definitely recommend to others.

Highly Recommended

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed here for 5 nights and quickly wished we had booked a longer stay. As other reviewers have highlighted, this is an extremely charming and comfortable cottage in a beautiful and serene setting. It served as both an excellent home base from which we toured the Cotswolds and also as a refuge where we relaxed when we were exhausted from our travels. We slept like babies in the exceptionally comfy king size bed (US king, UK super king) which is actually two twins secured together. Anna was a very gracious host and made us feel very much at home during our stay.

In addition, we especially enjoyed two local pubs for dining: the Lamb Inn and the Crown Inn. The washer/dryer combo worked quite well, unlike many others we used. This appliance was quiet and dried the clothes effectively. We did have some difficulty connecting reliably to wifi using our iPhones and iPad.

Overall, we highly recommend this cottage and we would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Perfectly equiped cottage with stunning views.

  • 5 of 5

Stunning little cottage with beautiful views. Stayed with my mum and daughters in May. The immediate views from the cottage are stunning and the local walks in the surrounding areas are too. The hosts have equipped the cottage perfectly and were most helpful with a huge list sent in advance on places to visit. Hope to go back again!

Great Cottage in a great location

  • 5 of 5

Spent 4 nights at the cottage tucked away in a sleepy Cotswold village. The cottage has everything you could want and really is a home from home. The hosts Anna and Chris are right on hand and very helpful - a comprehensive guide book for the property and things to do in the area is in the cottage.

Numerous great walks are literally right on the doorstep - pubs with great beer and quality food a plenty - our favourite (The Crown at Frampton Mansell) is a delightful 1 mile walk along the canal and through the neighbouring countryside. If you want to jump in the car there is so much to do around the area.

Highly recommended.

Chalford is in some of the most beautiful countryside in the whole range of the Cotswolds (and even the country). Nestled in the Golden Valley, one of Stroud's Five Valleys, Chalford is described as the Alpine Village with its steep hills and houses perched along small donkey tracks. A walkers' paradise with beautiful scenery around every corner.

The narrow High Street winds its way through the village past an amazing array of characterful cottages. Chalford was once a centre for the wool industry, with many Listed mills dotted along the old Thames and Severn Canal. Many houses you still can't drive to.

In the village is a small shop run by volunteers selling a selection of lovely organic goodies and a short walk away are some great pubs for beer, wine, good food and stunning sunsets.
