About Gini Cox

The Old Post Office was my Nana's House and left to me and my sisters. We couldn't bear to part with it as we knew how much she loved it, so decided the best way to keep it, was to allow others to enjoy it also. This way we could still visit from time to time also. It truly is a 'home from home' in a great setting and convenient location for exploring the area or just relaxing. We hope you will enjoy it as much as we do. Gini, Sam & Vicky.

Gini Cox purchased this cottage in 1980

Why Gini Cox chose Wales

The property is conveniently located in a quiet area but only a 5 minutes car ride to the A55 which leads all around the Northmost area offering an ideal way to explore.

On the hilltop

  • 5 of 5

Owner Gini Cox's instructions were very helpful as we followed the single lane road up, up to the village of LLanelian yn Rhos where the Old Post Office awaited our arrival. We soon found the parking place at the back next to the deck where we could unload the car and enter through the sunroom door. The kitchen and living room looked inviting with scattered cushions on the couch and the 2 easy chairs. And, indeed, we found it comfortable for evening relaxing, tv-viewing, and using our laptop computer. There was milk in the fridge and bread in the breadbox to welcome our arrival. The kitchen had all the necessary pots and pans, dish soap and tea towels, so was convenient for meal preparation. The fridge is a little challenging in that the freezer compartment door not only opens but comes off completely, but is easy to put back together. Sulight brightens the conservatory and warms the room so that even when it was cool enough that the heating was on in the rest of the house, that room needed no extra heating and was a pleasant area for meals or relaxing, too. As to be expected in a house of this age, the stairs to the next floor where the 2 bedrooms and the bathroom are located, are narrow and steep, but manageable with care. We found it easiest to leave our suitcases downstairs and take only the essentials upstairs. The double bed has a footboard, so taller people may find it a challenging fit. As others have done, we moved it away from the wall during our stay in order to have access from both sides. Upon arrival, there was a temporary glitch when the heat and hot water were not working, but a call to Gini soon resolved the matter. (Thank you, neighbor Hayley!). A friendly cat would stop by from time to time, and although we never heard the postman, one day we did see him at the front wall gathering letters from the postbox that is still in use near The Old Post Office.

Owner's Response: Thank you for such a thorough and kind review. I'm so pleased you enjoyed your stay. Your description takes me right back to the cottage as I can picture everything just as you've described.... it truly is a home from home! I will of course endeavour to fix the freezer door, thank you for bringing it to my attention. Our grandmother Hannah, whose house The Old Post Office was, loved cats so we like to think it's her coming to say hello when he stops by. Thank you again for your kind review, we would love to have you come and stay again! Warm regards, Gini

Very cosy cottage in a tranquil village

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay in this wonderful cottage. The village is really nice and quiet and the house is very comfortable and provides everything one would need on holiday. The White Lion is highly recommended for food and the local beach is perfect for kids. Hope to return again!

A hidden gem - loved it!

  • 4 of 5

We had a lovely stay made even better by great weather. The cottage was well equipped and we enjoyed sitting out in the decking soaking up the sun. Great pub within stumbling distance!

My only complaint was the toilet had not been cleaned and was left in a rather unpleasant state making my first job to clean it - not the best of starts to a holiday!

Otherwise everything else was great. Would reccomend to friends and family.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your honest review. I'm very pleased you enjoyed your stay - it is always lovely to hear that people love the cottage as much as we do. I'm very sorry to hear that the toilet was not cleaned satisfactorily. I have spoken to our changeover lady who assures me she did clean it and leave it with bleach in the bowl. Obviously not having seen it myself I'm unable to confirm either way, so I can only apologise if this wasn't the case and as you've explained, you had to clean it yourself - this is certainly not the standard of cleanliness we would want any of our guests to arrive to so I will endeavour to make sure it doesn't happen again. Despite the not so perfect start to your stay, I am very pleased to hear you that you enjoyed it so much that you would still recommend it to friends and family. We would love for you to come and stay again. Thank you, Warm Regards, Gini

Cosy cottage in peaceful location

  • 5 of 5

We know the area very well so no problems on location and that just leaves finding the right accommodation for the short breaks we regularly take throughout the year.....this cottage is up there with the best we've stayed in, a home from home feeling as soon as you open the front door. Locals friendly, especially in the pub, a joy being so close to an establishment serving good wholesome food and a good range of beers. Would we stay here again, a resounding yes. Thank you and hope to book again soon. Mike & Donna

Lovely little cottage

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in the cottage for 5 nights & the cottage had everything we could have wanted. We particularly liked the conservatory & enjoyed having our breakfast out there each morning. It was perfectly placed for exploring the area, including Snowdon, Llandudno & Chester. The White Lion pub (literally just across the road) was very good, serving good beer & offering a good selection of food. Have already recommended the cottage to some friends. Thank you Samantha! Beautiful cottage - perfect for a peaceful holiday

  • 4 of 5

The cottage manager who met us there was very friendly and showed us around. The cottage itself was bigger than expected downstairs. The conservatory was lovely. It was nice and warm throughout, clean and well-kept. The village was very small but minutes away from Colwyn Bay. The White Lion Inn was a real bonus. Good food and company. This is a place to come to spend a quiet break away from it all. The only things that would have made it perfect were if it weren't a bit damp upstairs (the bedroom walls) - but then we hardly noticed this after the first day when the heating had been on a while and it is an old cottage. The lamp in the bedroom was broken which left the main bulb a bit dim for reading (for us with poor eyesight!) but that was not a big issue. We did move the bed around so we could both gain access from the sides, rather than me climbing across in the night. The bedrooms are cosy. The woodbuner is not yet working, but this was stated clearly beforehand. A real fire would make a big difference though in the winter and, if we stay there again, as we hope to do, it would be great to have burning logs to warm the cottage. All the amenities are as advertised and are in great working order. All in all a beautiful place to stay.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind and honest appraisal of the cottage. I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay but I'm sorry to hear you felt the walls were initially damp. You are correct in your observation that this is usually rectified after 24 hours. It is not 'damp' as such. The walls are 2 foot thick stone walls, and without keeping the heating on permanently, it is very difficult to keep them heated through. We usually put the heating on a good few days before any guests are due, and then as the walls are heating, it can sometimes appear as though condensation is forming. Once the heat has penetrated the stone this ceases and the house holds the heat very well, as you found. I take on board your notes regarding the lamps. We have a similar problem here too, in that the 2 foot thick stone walls are very difficult to drill into therefore the fixation of walls lamps or shelves is also very tricky. We shall continue work on making improvements, as we always want our guests to be happy. Thank you very much. Sam
