Information for guest about Douglas lake

Set against the backdrop of the foothills of the Smoky Mountain, Douglas Lake is a popular recreation for all types of vacationers. The dam that controls the reservoir was built in 1942, stretches 202 feet high and 1,705 feet across the French Broad River. Douglas Lake provides 513 miles of shoreline and 28,420 acres of water surface for recreation activities. In a year with normal rainfall, the water level in Douglas Reservoir varies about 44 feet from summer to winter. Although most of the shoreline along the 43 mile-long lake is private. Amenities include restrooms with showers, picnic areas with tables, a boat ramp and a swimming beach.

Birdwatching: From late July to early October, birdwatchers will witness the fall migration of shore birds, wading birds, and other waterfowl that flock to Douglas Lake. The birds rest and feed on the muddy shoreline and in areas of shallow water exposed as the level of the reservoir is lowered to winter flood control levels.

Fishing: Nourished by three rivers, Douglas Lake has become the premier crappie lake in East Tennessee. Other good fishing includes: white bass, sauger, black crappie, striped bass, spotted bass, walleye, blue cat, flat head catfish, channel catfish, red horse, red breast sunfish and bluegill. Fishing is a year round sport at Douglas although spring and fall are the preferred seasons. From November to May, the wide shallow embayment, fertile creek hollows and stump beds, attract the crappie in huge numbers during the spring spawning season making crappie fishing excellent! Spring is the best time for bass fishing but you'll find there's good stock year-round.

Trails: If you want to add a hiking adventure to your time at the lake, the trailhead to the Trotter Bluff Small Wild Area (trail map) is adjacent to the Douglas Dam Headwater Campground. Hike the almost 2 miles of trail that winds through 30 acres of hardwood forest and limestone sinkholes to an overlook of the lake's tailwaters. Springtime hikes are enhanced with colorful wildflowers that dot the landscape. The Dandridge Partnership Trail is a 1.2 mile out-and back that winds through wooded terrain.

Douglas Lake is one of the cleanest lakes in Tennessee, and the only lake convenient to Sevierville, Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Douglas Lake attracts nearly 2 million visitors each year. It's an anglers paradise and is the site for several bass fishing tournaments each year, including the Tennessee B.A.S.S. State Tournament.

The resort is convenient to all this area has to offer: water parks, nascar rides, mini and regular golf, horseback riding, hay rides, zip lines, craft and antique shops, outlet malls, not to mention Dollywood, Dixie Stampede, the Titanic Museum, etc.

There are restaurants to suit every taste within minutes of the cabin.

Don't forget beautiful Cades Cove in the Smoky Mountains where you're sure to see deer, wild turkey, and if you're lucky, a bear or two.

*****Douglas Lake is a seasonal lake regulated by the TVA. There will always be water in the main channel however, during certain times of the year there will not be a lot of water at our shoreline. The TVA starts to fill the lake over Memorial Day and it is usually full by the end of May.. The TVA then starts to empty the lake after Labor Day and by the end of September, there is not a lot of water at our shoreline but there is still water in the main channel and you can drop your boat at one of the marinas on the main channel.

Very Nice/Private

  • 4 of 5

My sisters and I enjoyed our stay at Panorama Cabin in September. A very nice private cabin; a little out of the way from the hustle and bustle of the three main towns of Sevierville, Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. It had all the supplies we needed and the hot tub was wonderful.

Property was neat and tidy...

  • 5 of 5

Stayed in the Panorama, the cabin was very nice. The only thing that I would like to see different is some tree trimming. There are beautiful views on all sides of the cabin but the tree growth covers the view. Other than that, couldnt have been more satisfied. Will definitely be back. Thank you Susan!

Owner's Response: Thank you for the review and yes I do agree with you on the trees. Unfortunately the HOA in the resort does not allow you to cut trees unless they are dead. I will check into this and see if we are allowed just to trim them back some. Please come back

Great mountain vacation

  • 5 of 5

My family enjoyed our mountain getaway. The cabin was spacious and stocked for any need. We would highly recommend this cabin. If I have to list one negative it is that I had to rewash many of the dishes. We visited many local attractions and of course relaxed to enjoy the beautiful scenery.

Homey

  • 4 of 5

Our group of 7 enjoyed our stay in Sevierville. This was our first trip on our own and the cabin accommodated us very well. Although there was a lack of wifi and cable we enjoyed quality time we got to spend on the couch and just talk. The kitchen was easy to cook meals in. We had a great time in TN. FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS THAT ARE EMAILED TO YOU.

Sevierville Tennessee is located on the eastern edge of the state, the town sits in the foothills of the Great Smokey Mountains, about ten miles north of the park. There are plenty of outdoor activities such as horseback riding and the Forbidden Caverns for the kids. Additionally, this quaint and quiet town's claim to fame is as the birthplace of Dolly Parton as well as being home to outlet malls and restaurants out on the highway.

Just why is Sevierville, TN “Where Smoky Mountain Fun Begins?” Because Sevierville is filled with shopping, shows, fun things to do, and great attractions you just don’t find anywhere else.

Take a walk on the wild side at educational attractions featuring exotic animals like kangaroos, zebras, snakes and emus. There are even museums featuring classic cars and war bird airplanes, plenty of go-kart tracks and putt-putt golf to keep everyone entertained. And, of course, Sevierville Tennessee shows are family friendly and dazzling.

While we’re well known for the exciting things to do in Sevierville, Tennessee we’re famous for our shopping. Two of the largest outlet malls in the area are located in Sevierville totaling over 120 high-end, name brand outlets. Shopping ranges from high-end outlet stores and boutiques to galleries, antique stores, flea markets, and even a scrapbook store with the largest inventory in the U.S.

There’s no better way to experience Sevierville than in the great outdoors. Whether you enjoy hunting, fishing, hiking, ATV riding, rafting canoeing, horseback riding or just generally having a great time under the open skies, Sevierville has the outdoor experience for you. Best of all, Sevierville is only minutes away from Great Smoky Mountains National Park, America’s most visited national park and the only one that is free to enter and enjoy. Hike the Great Smoky Mountains or explore the caverns on guided tours beneath the foothills.

Is golf your game? Sevierville’s Eagle’s Landing Golf Course offers 18 championship style holes and will soon open an additional 18-hole resort style course. Sports fans also enjoy one of the regular home games played April through September by Sevierville’s Tennessee Smokies Baseball team, an AA affiliate of the Chicago Cubs.

Getting to know a place is easy once you get to know its food prepared by the locals. In Sevierville, TN our dining experiences range from down home cooking to international cuisine and leisurely dining to grabbing food on the go. While Sevierville has a wide variety of nationally known chain and franchise restaurants, we also have authentic mountain cooking – and lots of it. Enjoy a homegrown dinner prepared in authentic mountain ways at many of Sevierville’s local restaurants.

Sevierville is also the hometown of music legend Dolly Parton. Dolly was born and raised here along with her 11 brothers and sisters. She was regularly heard on Sevierville’s WSEV radio station before she was 10 years old and was also a regular on the Knoxville television program, “The Cas Walker Show.” A statue of Dolly, which was sculpted by local artist Jim Gray, has graced the lawn of the Sevier County Courthouse since 1987 – only a year after she opened her Dollywood theme park. Dolly comes home each Spring for the park’s seasonal grand opening and makes several other appearances throughout the year.

Happy couples have long known that Sevierville, Tennessee cabins in the Great Smoky Mountains are one of the most romantic spots couples can go to escape. Getting married in Sevierville is romantic, memorable and simple. Whether you want to take to the skies for an aerial wedding or plan a lavish ceremony and reception with a sweeping mountain view, Sevierville, Tennessee offers a variety of options.
