Serene farmhouse set among olive trees near Florence

Bedrooms 4
Property type chateau / country house
Minimum Stay 4 - 5 nights

About the property

Chateau / Country House, 4 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 8)

Escape to our recently restored 17th Century home, situated among acres of orchards and grazing fields overlooking Borgo San Lorenzo in the Mugello Valley, 40 minutes from Florence. The entire home and gardens are for your private use.

Our home, or La Prunetina, is a haven of peace in the splendid Tuscan countryside and is an optimal point of departure to visit cities like Florence, Siena, Pisa or Bologna. The Mugello Valley itself is known for its art, wine and oil production, its beef and dairy products. There are many museums, castles, markets, vineyards and exquisite dining options to entertain the art and food lover. Directly outside our gate there are wonderful trails to explore on foot, horseback or mountain bike. They are some of the best in the region!

La Prunetina was lovingly restored in 2010 and maintains its original farmhouse charm while having completely modern amenities and technology inside. This home was originally built in the 17C and consists of 4 spacious bedrooms, a generous American sized and equipped kitchen, living room, utility room and 2 bathrooms. Our spacious yard affords open views to the Apennini ridges beyond and the sound of the nearby stream. Two patios and hammocks welcome you to enjoy your morning café, meals and free time outdoors. Our barbeque and 17C pizza oven will tempt those of you who are adventurous and like to cook by fire.

Keeping the building green has been very important to us and we are proud to state that many measures have been taken to make this happen: solar heating, compost bins, water-based paints, and roofing and stucco that both cool and heat the home naturally and most efficiently. A 15x120 foot vegetable patch and 30-tree orchard allows us to grow and consume some our own produce throughout the year.

We also offer services like a private chef and wine sommillier who does private wine paring evening with a 4-6 course meal for our guests at our home and on our "sunset patio" -he's my cousin and owns a bar/wine tasting room down in Vicchio. He asks €45 per person and it is fabulous and often the highlight of our guests visits!

We hope you will treat your home as if it is yours. There is additional information in our Guest Book that will tell you how best to manage the windows, doors, washer, kitchen equipment as well as our suggestions of where to eat or find the best gelato.

No guests under 12 years old please,.

All linens and towels are included.

Lovely for a remote getaway

  • 4 of 5

A lovely country home remotely situated in the Tuscan hills above the towns of Borgo San Lorenzo and Vicchio. The location is good as a base for exploring that region of Tuscany. The property is quite beautiful--a blend of rustic and modern--and well suited for 4-8 people and would be quite enjoyable for families. We would have appreciated more in the way of basic amenities that one should be able to expect from a home stay, such as a supply of toilet tissue, paper towels, garbage bags, bath soap and shampoo but these are small matters that detracted only a little from the experience. The steep and windy road up is not for the faint hearted but well suited for those who enjoy some stimulation in their daily driving. Night driving in the surrounding hillsides is also an adventure. The Villa Campestri resort below offers wonderful, elegant dining. Do take advantage of a lovely meal and wine pairings hosted in the home by a cousin of the proprietors. Communication with the proprietors was excellent and appreciated. To Shannon: Thank you for sharing your home with us!

Owner's Response: Thank you for the review and for the lovely description. I'm sorry to hear about you not having the basic amenities like TP, paper towels, garbage bags etc all. They should have been supplied for you. I'll make sure our helper knows this and will supply these things when I'm not there to do it myself. Please come back any time!

Wonderful house

  • 5 of 5

We spent five nights here at this beautiful location. A short drive to the train station for trips into Florence. The owner was very gracious and helpful. We had the personal chef prepare a delicious dinner paired with the appropriate wines. The surrounding area was very peaceful and the views were breathtaking. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it for anyone. Thank you Shannon and Simone!

A Summer Vacation On the Tuscany Hills

  • 5 of 5

The most beautiful Tuscan home that has been decorated impeccably. Just gorgeous. The house is built on a big property surrounded by everything that you can imagine. It has breathtaking views everywhere you look. We are a family of 5 who spent a week in La Prunetina and felt the house was very spacious and comfortable... The highlights being the modern amenities and comfortable furniture and gorgeous views. The house is located on a hill overlooking the vistas of Tuscany. The drive from the plains up to the property is a real Tuscany experience. This is the place if you want to be away from the tourist crowds.

Shannon and Simone are wonderful hosts. Shannon gave us a great introduction to the area and was very helpful in suggesting things to do. She arranged for us a wine tasting with cousin Raphaele who is an expert sommelier and knows all that you need to know about Italian wines.

We had a lovely stay at La Prunetina House and we would recommend it without hesitation... Thanks for a great stay!

Truly under the Tuscan Sun!

  • 5 of 5

This home & setting beyond trumps Diane Lane's movie, 'Under the Tuscan Sun'. This is my dream home! This incredibly beautiful home is nestled in the tuscan hills with the most amazing vistas. The property is abundant with fruit trees and land to go on strolls or hikes. There is a great trail that leads you to a Roman tower and many points to see the views for miles. The eco-chic retreat has been remodeled keeping true to its italian roots, but with modern ammenities. The home is spacious and evokes the most serene atmosphere. Each room is quiet & private. There is plenty of room to make yourself comfortable and find solace if you staying with a group. I HIGHLY recommend this!

Everyday Italian Life, but sooooooo not Ordinary!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I traveled to Italy for our 1-year wedding anniversary. We knew that we wanted to stay in the heart of the cities we visited, but also that we wanted to experience a glimpse of everyday Italian life. We found this wonderful property outside Florence to stay at a couple nights before we moved on to Milan (the owners gave excellent directions as you do end up on a narrow gravel road - part of the adventure!). The spacious home was on a large lot and had just been beautifully renovated. There were horses that grazed nearby and breathtaking views of the valley. We went to the market and cooked most of our meals, but then had an amazing dinner at the resort just down the road (be sure to enjoy the olive oil tasting). My husband enjoyed a round of golf at the Medici course a short drive away while I read a book on the patio. We had a great time and are planning to stay here again (and for longer than two days, I might add) when we can get back!

So You Want to Bring Home the REAL Italy?

  • 5 of 5

It's one of the places you imagine when you read the books about Tuscany--fields surrounded by horses, a view of the valley, the house well-appointed with an organic, warm interior lovingly restored with lots of light, wood and clean lines. The kitchen is fantastic for cooks. Just quiet enough to afford the solitude of the olive groves, your fresh garden herbs and grasslands yet near enough to Vicco to afford easy access to the fresh bread, local flavor and culture. It's only a short drive from Florence, too. Well worth the price for the piece of real Italy you'll be bringing home. Thank you Shannon and Simone for sharing this beautiful property with us!!

Car: necessary

The modern, light and airy home, garden and acres of land are for YOUR PRIVATE USE. Wine tasting options abound, including personal wine pairing dinners directly at our villa for our guests only with professional chef and wine sommelier Rafaelle.

There are regional food festivals; chestnut, boar, mushroom, truffle, local pasta specialties always taking place in the valley. There is berry hunting and fantastic hikes/bike/horse rides all outside of front gate as well as the various cultural festivals taking place each month. We offer many suggestions in our guest book.
