This house was so lovely and quiet and inside was all we needed for the very nice days. The garden around the house is like a paradise. The village is also very nice, very kindly persons are living there and you can eat for a really cheap price and the people are so kindly. Different beaches are inviting the tourists.

Charming holiday hideaway in southan Evia

  • 5 of 5

Zarakes is an ideal base for exploring southan Evia. The cottage had everything needed for a two week holiday, internet connection, washing powder, mosquito burners, oliver oil e.t.c.

The cottage itself was very tranquil and private with a shady garden full of scented plants. Ann was very welcoming and extremely knowledgeable about all aspects on Evia. The cottage is close to the best Taverna in town where Eleni and Takis and their daughter Stella serve delicious home-cooked food from their own farm - the best Souvlaki on the island according to my children! The beaches nearby are spectacular - so many to choose from! Limnionas was our favourite. The village shop also run by Sella had everything you could need. This island is a hidden gem with so much to offer, with amazing walks through ancient woodland, to a day trip to Skyros. This part of the island offers a soothing breeze which was very welcome in the midday heat. We had a fantastic holiday and would wholeheartedly recommend this property.

A wonderful place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

Valley View Cottage is wonderful, even better than it looks in the pictures. The cottage is down steps from the street and the bedroom balcony has an uninterrupted view of the valley. The view from the balcony is beautiful and at night I have never seen so many stars, quite breathtaking! The cottage was spotless and Annie had put fresh flowers in every room. Annie was really welcoming and helpful and easy to contact if we needed anything.

The village is interesting to walk around, with a good track down the valley and we loved watching the birds and butterflies. The bakery, local shop and tavernas had everything we needed and everyone was really helpful and friendly.

I couldn't get the internet on my iPad as the connection is plug-in but the tavernas have Wi-Fi so that was OK.

The local beach (a car ride away) is lovely with warm, clear water and it isn't busy but all the beaches are sunny all day with little or no natural shade so you need a sunshade.

I would recommend Valley View Cottage without hesitation, we loved it and have very happy memories!

A home in Greece!

  • 5 of 5

I was looking for a quiet 15-day holiday in genuine Greek surroundings and I feel blessed for having found Valley View Cottage in Evia! This house felt like home from the first moment...and the genuine warm welcome from Annie and the locals in the village of Zarakes truly made my holiday dream come true!

The cottage is carefully renovated and decorated with love and it certainly feels like you've been welcomed to someone's home. The garden and the views are beautiful and the cottage is even cozier than what photos can show you.

The island of Evia was exactly what I was looking for: genuine and very Greek. You do need a car to get around and the island is absolutely worth exploring as the north is very different from the south and you can enjoy various sceneries with sea, mountains, forests, villages...and numerous beaches to all tastes!!

I would absolutely recommend Evia and Valley View Cottage to everyone looking for authentic Greece, a home with everything you need for quiet holidays with welcoming villagers and lots to explore on the island. And do not forget this is very close to Athens if you wish to combine city life to your holidays in Greece!

I look forward to returning to Valley View Cottage one day...

coming home

  • 4 of 5

It was a great discovery the Island Evia. Everywhere you can see the sea and it is still very quiet here.

If you want to be part of the community, meet people go to Valley View Cottage.

One side of the house is quiet with spectacular views. From the other side you are part of a small village with everything you need.

In the evening everyone is outside and just 100 mtrs from the house there is the local taverna.

After one day people know you and you feel welcome. A great way to know the Greek people better than all the other news you here or read these days.

In daytime go to the small beaches without any foreign tourists. Just among the Greek's.

Great place for holiday

  • 5 of 5

We would like to say thank you that we could spend our holiday in a such beautiful place. Valley View Cottage in Zarakes is a cute cottage in a traditional style, furnished very comfortable, with great garden, where you can spend your breakfast. Bedrooms are situated on the east, so we could watch the sun-rise. If you are looking for the place where you can spend peaceful holiday with your family is a village Zarakes and island Evia the right decision.

The village of Zarka (officially Zarakes) is 2 1/2 hours from Athens airport. It is an authentic working village with tavernas and cafes and a well-stocked shop. There is also a butcher and bakery, right on the doorstep. It is well situated for walking and exploring. and close to spectacular beaches. All nearby beaches have tavernas with fresh fish a speciality. Zarka beach is 5 km away and the magnificent Limnionas 16 1/2. Aliverion ( 20 kms away) is the nearest market town where a lively street market is held every Saturday. Nea Styra, also 20 km away, is the nearest port where a variety of waterfront cafes and tavernas give ample opportunity to people watch.

Karystos , the main port town of Southern Evia is a magnificent 1 hour and 15 Min drive from Zarka. Here there is much of historic interest, including Roman columns, a Venetian castle and an attractive museum.
