I have applied my craft in France, Spain, Portugal and Germany. My own company Surf Pro Designs is now well established within the UK and abroad.
Alan or Gemma purchased this Cottage in 1994
Why Alan or Gemma chose Woolacombe
I purchased Summer Haze Cottage in 1993. It is the largest and third property I have renovated, being almost derelict and certainly unliveable. In two years it became habitable and now many years later is complete including the holiday cottage which resides next door to the main cottage yet has its own private gardens. One of the main reasons for buying the property was its position within and area of outstanding natural beauty (AONB), close to ocean and the fact it had nearly 3 acres of land, gardens, and workshops. The size of the property was also a consideration as the potential to create holiday accommodation for others to enjoy this is area of the North Devon Coast and countryside were quite evident.
What makes this Cottage unique
The cottages unique benefit is that it sits in a quiet hamlet within the AONB and coastal conservation area and yet is close to the ocean with one of Europe's best beaches just a couple of miles away. Visitors can enjoy the authenticity of a 200 year old cottage that's been renovated, having the unique benefits of its own sizeable large garden (ideal for holidaying dogs), including a play area. The ability to stay at Summer Haze Cottage without use of a vehicle to enjoy what this area has to naturally offer is a rarity.

Absolutely fabulous holiday in unique beautiful cottage
Had a fabulous time. Both Alan and Gemma were fantastic and friendly and the welcome package of milk and various biscuits, cookies and wine (plus other things) was a wonderful surprise (although the kids didn't get a sniff of the shortbread, all mine!) The location was perfect for the area and both Alan and Gemma were very knowledgeable with recommendations for places to visit or eat. Nothing was too much trouble. I'll be booking again for next year as soon as I get paid. Thank you Alan and Gemma. 😀
Perfect location, lovely cottage, very child friendly, fantastic enclosed garden for the dog
Had the perfect holiday at Summerhaze, came away totally relaxed! The cottage is ideal base for exploring the North Devon coast, left car and just walked for miles. Alan was a great host and an absolute mine of local information and so friendly (had many a chat ). Garden was ideal, had separate child area which granddaughter enjoyed and Logan our dobermann had a great time (he must have had a good time as had trouble getting him in the car when it was time to leave).
The cottage has everything you could need. Mobile reception not great but that was a bonus as could chill out with family, log burner is a nice touch as evenings were a bit chilly.
Would recommend the cottage especially if you have dogs as have stayed at other cottages who state they have enclosed gardens and when arrived are definitely not, our dobermann (a great escape artist) was well contained so another plus point for relaxation!
Lovely Cottage and location
We had a lovely stay at Summer Haze. It's a great location, just far enough not not hear traffic, but close enough to pop and get Fish and Chips. It's a great base for walking some of the beautiful surrounding countryside and exploring all of the coves and beaches nearby.
Alan was on hand to give some welcome advice about where to go, what to see, with some fascinating tales of the local area, and a really interesting and friendly chap to chat with.
It's a great cottage with everything we needed, and a fabulous welcome pack, which was well received. A smashing garden with an area for young (and slightly older) children to play, and an area for sitting out and BBQ.
Views of the surrounding area were amazing.
My wife's first comment was "Wow, the photos don't do this place justice".
It's a lovely, charming cottage in a beautiful setting.
Very Nice Stay - Lovely Cottage
Thanks for letting us stay in your cottage Alan it was lovely. The kids and dog thoroughly enjoyed the garden.
Hope to come back in the future.
All the best. Joe + Family
Lovely to have you stay and thank you for leaving the cottage clean and tidy. Your children certainly made good use of our play area while your dog seemed to appreciate the garden. Your very to come and stay again, always nice to see returning families.
An idyllic cottage in a great location
We had a fantastic few days staying at Summer Haze Cottage and can't thank Alan enough for his hospitality. The welcome pack was a really nice gesture with the property clean and well presented.
The cottage is in a secluded area and within easy reach of Saunton,Woolacombe,Croyde Bay and Ilfracombe.
We would thoroughly recommend a stay .
Marcus and Laura were a very easy going friendly couple and found Summer Haze Cottage suited there every needs, including the surrounding countryside and local beaches. They struck lucky with the weather with wall to wall sunshine and saw this part of Devon at its best for this time of year. On leaving they left the cottage exceptionally clean and tidy which is always appreciated. They would always be welcome to stay another time.
Lovely cosy cottage
Enjoyed a lovely time at Summer Haze cottage over new year. One group of two young families. Cottage was clean, comfy and cosy. Loads of nice walks around including coastal path. The Grampus pub within walking distance too. Alan and Gemma both really helpful from time of booking right to the end of our stay.
A lovely group and very friendly, a pleasure to have them here at Summer Haze Cottage. They made the most of their few Christmas get a way few days, with walks, beach visits and the local cosy Grampus Pub. The children and their exploring dog (most amused by my goldfish) made full use of the garden and swings even though the temperature had dropped. It was nice to have found they left the cottage very clean and tidy while having used all the cottages facilities including the wood burner. It would be nice to see them in the warmer months as I’m sure the group would enjoy all the local walks, beaches and hidden coves.
