Summer Haze Cottage ( ) is a cosy 3 bedroom character cottage situated in the quiet hamlet of Higher Warcombe, within an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, just 5-10 minute drive from the award winning sandy/surf beaches of Woolacombe and 15 minute walk from the picturesque village and coves of Lee Bay (good for rock pooling, snorkelling and kayaking). The cottage is available for holiday rental throughout the year and is an ideal base for families, family dogs, sports enthusiasts, walkers and golfers. The property has gated off-road parking, large sized garden with play area with 3 swings, slides, garden toys for the young, garden furniture, outside lighting, BBQ, and fantastic countryside views and some sea views. On the ground floor the cottage has a fully fitted kitchen, sitting/dining room with wood burning stove + character staircase, bathroom with bath/shower over and a double bedroom also on ground floor. Upstairs are an additional 2 bedrooms - one large with a 4-poster double bed + cot and a smaller L shaped childrens bedroom with staggered bunk beds. Secluded coves: We are fortunate to live in a beautiful, protected and unspoilt, varied landscape here in North Devon. There are unspoilt beaches and coves dotted along the coast from Saunton Beach to Lee Bay (within a 1-5 mile radius of the cottage), which can be reached via the coastal footpath and winding country lanes. Without the need to drive if desired . So, if you fancy the idea of possibly having one of the beaches/coves to yourself, such as Rockham Bay, Bennetts Mouth, Hillymouth or Sandy Cove, then this is quite possible.

About Alan or Gemma

I moved to North Devon over 40 years ago. And now have a family of four. I have been self-employed since moving to North Devon, first as a surfboard manufacturer and now of other watercraft, Including windsurfers, SUP's, wave skis and rescue boards for the Royal National lifeboat Institute. Why Alan or Gemma chose Woolacombe

I purchased Summer Haze Cottage in 1993. It is the largest and third property I have renovated, being almost derelict and certainly unliveable. In two years it became habitable and now many years later is complete including the holiday cottage which resides next door to the main cottage yet has its own private gardens. One of the main reasons for buying the property was its position within and area of outstanding natural beauty (AONB), close to ocean and the fact it had nearly 3 acres of land, gardens, and workshops. The size of the property was also a consideration as the potential to create holiday accommodation for others to enjoy this is area of the North Devon Coast and countryside were quite evident. I guess the cottages unique benefit is that it sits in a quiet hamlet within the AONB and coastal conservation area and yet is close to the ocean with one of Europes best beaches just a couple of miles away. Visitors can enjoy the authenticity of a 200 year old cottage that's been renovated, having the unique benefits of its own sizeable large garden (ideal for holidaying dogs), including a play area.   • The bathroom is situated on the ground floor and has a full-sized bath, with an electric shower over, sink and toilet.   • The cottage has 3 bedrooms, sleeping a total of 6 + a baby (cot available). A double bedroom is situated on the ground floor (next to the bathroom) of the property has a carpeted floor, matching art nouveau wardrobe/dressing table. Also situated on the ground floor is the bathroom, which makes this an ideal choice for those with elderly relatives or persons who are less mobile. The 2 double bedrooms each enjoy far reaching views across the surrounding countryside to the sea beyond and on a clear day you can see the South Wales coastline from the double bedroom upstairs. This large main bedroom has a lace covered four poster bed, dressing table, and comfy arm chair, mirrors, a set of pine draws and a wardrobe. The L shaped bunk room has a velux window; lockable, making it safer for young children. All bedrooms on the first floor have solid pine flooring There are also fully opening stair gates situated @ the top and bottom of the stairs.

The cottage has a large sized garden which is made secure by a 5-bar gate, stone walls and fencing. The garden has a number of areas - a sheltered courtyard situated outside the kitchen, with table/chairs,additional seating, BBQ and outside lighting, a raised lawn area (ideal for ball games), enjoys surrounding countryside views including some distant sea views across the bristol channel. The enclosed and fenced, gated area haveing trees, shrubs, rotary washing line. The play area contains swings, slide, garden toy sand play house. All safe and secure for young children. Clean, wonderfully quiet, peaceful and welcoming - everything you could look for.

A family run holiday cottage with a welcoming feel. The house has a restorative feeling such that it would be a challenge not to relax. If you relax too much there are multiple options for coffee making, including an advanced coffee espresso machine. The owner, Alan, is a fountain of knowledge for local coffees and excellent places to visit. There are no end of beautiful walks in every direction, so no need to take a car if you relax too much! Thank you Alan for creating such a great place.

Perfect place for staying with small children

Really cosy winter stay with three children with everything set up for fun and safety with very young ones. Alan was very helpful with working the woodburner and the cottage warmed up nicely during very cold, wet windy weather. Beautiful countryside and beaches nearby with stunning walks to the sea from the cottage. Alan was there to meet us on arrival and let us in and readily available to answer queries during our stay. Would be amazing in the summer too and would definitely come back again at any time of year.

Lovely Winter break

A lovely winter break. The cottage is just superb. Clean tidy and well maintained. Very very warm with the woodburner going in the evenings. Ideal for anyone wanting to get away from it all, but still close enough to not be remote. fantastic walks on the doorstep. Huge amount to do in the area from fishing, surfing ,walking, horse riding, just about anything you can think of. Alan was very attentive and helpful, the walks he recommended were stunning.

We shall certainly be returning soon.

Winter w/e in cosy cottage

We had a lovely time at the cottage and thanks to Alan for all his help as we had a great day on Saturday following all his suggestions and then an amazing walk on Sunday to the lighthouse. A walk that includes cliffs, woods, moor, streams and fields in one go must be a one off and we had a great time. The cottage was lovely and the wood burning stove was so fantastic that I think I might try and fit one in our play room. We were so much warmer there than we ever are here! We had dinner at the Rock which was great, especially as they let us bring the dog. Another place we would never have found without Alan’s help.

Beautiful but too cold in winter!

We stayed here in February with our 3 children one of whom was 9 months at the time. It is a lovely place and a nice cottage but it was so cold! We checked with the owner what heating was available in the cottage before we left as babies need warmth. We were told it was plenty warm enough but unfortunately this wasn't the case. The wood burner was pretty difficult to keep going and would obviously need relighting in the morning and that's not easy with a baby and two cold kids!

The kitchen was well equiped but again, the heating was from a fan heater that just covered everything in condensation.

The internet connection was extremely slow as well and this was a priority for us as my husband still had to work whilst we were away

Despite the cold, we were welcomed and looked after and in the summertime, it would be glorious but it wasn't ideal for us as a family with very young children.

Electricity is supplied via £1 coin meter with coins supplied.
