About Santo & Hayley Giorgio

"The Po'ipu Hideaway" was Santo & Hayley's first project together and reflects the fresh beginnings of their partnership. Today they raise their young family on the North Shore in Hayley's 'ohana hale that has been in her family for generations.

Santo C. Giorgio, owner of Design Concepts Hawaii (dchawaii.com), originally from California, has been involved in the field of architecture for the past 15 years. Hayley K. Giorgio [Ham Young], born in Ha’ena, Kaua’i, has worked in the field of interior design since 2007 and is a designer at Santo's Kilauea office.

"We thrive off the beauty and connectedness Kaua'i feeds us. When we’re not in the field we’re either in the water or outside enjoying life."

We love our house and Po'ipu. It's a great place for entertaining and we love it's modern design. Lots of space and such a treat for friends and family to share. Being part of a local-family neighborhood our property is unique in the sense that you have the opportunity to feel part of a new place. Some of our favorite restaurants and many of Po'ipu's beaches are minutes from our house. Truly a beautiful place to relax.

What makes this house unique

In our home we enjoy the modern design and comfortable climate Poipu has to offer. Everything is within walking or biking distance and typically when the rest of the island is raining we're still in that sunny bubble. Our home is perfect for family gatherings, a romantic couples getaway, and adult groups.

During the day, the electricity we consume is being generated by the sun ;) The hot water is made by that same solar energy too! Our intention is to be conscious and as involved as we can in using alternative forms of energy in order to preserve our environment and the Earth we are so grateful to be a part of... Doing what we can to make a difference.

Another unique benefit is that you're renting from a family that is from here and actually lives on Kaua'i. The relationship and consciousness we have for our island and community has significant depth. So when you stay at our property not only do you get to enjoy so much of the natural beauty our island offers, you're also genuinely helping our economy. We employ people on island to help manage our home and the income we make from our rental goes back into Kaua'i's economy which is crucial for Hawai'i's economy as well. We care about our neighbors and our island.

With that in mind, it is our goal to provide an authentic vacation model for the Kaua'i traveler. Aloha nui.

Sweet pad in great location

House was just as described. Lots of ventilation and natural Hawaiian style with operable shutter windows that allowed a constant lovely breeze throughout the house. We stayed with family and young children - this house was perfect for a larger group where people have different schedules and agendas. Felt like a more glamorous version of home - I would highly recommend this place.

Amazing house in a great location

We loved staying at the Hideaway. It was a comfortable, cool home that fit our needs perfectly. Our large family was comfortable and able to stretch out and relax. It's proximity to Poipu beach made beach visits very easy. We were delighted to see of the items we were able to use while staying at the house: bikes, boogie boards, sand toys, beach umbrellas, snorkel gear, coolers, etc. We had an amazing time on Kauai and hope to be back soon!

Great house

Loved our stay. This is a great house with plenty of space. We had 7 people in our party and while the rooms were private, the communal spaces were great. Loved the outdoor shower off the downstairs suite, the pool table and back yard lanai were all awesome. Very functional kitchen space, dining area and living room. Quick walk to Poipu beach park.

Worse experience ever had to go through. Won’t know till you get there!!! Vrbo can’t help you!

We were at this property in Feb, 2018. Worse vacation experience ever due to the issues we had to deal with this place. Not only we paid a high price but also felt like we were so naive (never thought rental homes could go wrong like this):

1) We were told one of the bath tub was out of order 3 days prior to arrival (3 full bath was one of reasons we were looking for when booked)

2). Only 2 of the cook top burners worked properly

3). Problems with washer told a day after arrival

4). Discovered bugs and ants on plates, utensils, & drawers. Owner said it was normal but we’ve not seen those the last 4 trips in Kauai. We have 4 young kids which made us very nervous

5). Misleading on rooms and beds (air beds were one of the beds provided but did not even hold air we’ll). Only 2 bedrooms had doors.

6). No warning on living room couch which was right above the stairwell with no safety railing. We constantly had to worry about kids on couch who might fall over on to stairs. We had to be on high alert day and night - nervous wreck!!!!!!!

7). This property manager lived next door & shared drive way. They had a big party with pounding bass music which shaked property & woke everyone up since 10pm. Some of them stopped next to this property & honked loudly a few times purposely. They did not stop till I txted the owner and he called the police about 1am. We were concerned about our safety for the next 4 days.

What made us cautious now is that you are at your own risk when rent a place through VRBO. It could be the same with other vacation rentals - they really can’t help you with the reality you may face.

Owner's Response: We will be truthful and concise: Take the review you just read with a grain of salt and consider reading the other 30+ 5 star reviews, the guestbooks in our home, or perhaps even talking to us. We live on island and put a lot of hard work into maintaining our property and accommodating our guests needs. We take our home and guests seriously so if something comes up we do EVERYTHING we can to keep our home up to par. Thankfully, because of that, poor reviews are a rare event. At the end of the day, this group cost us more money and trouble than it was worth. If you’re a property owner DO NOT RENT YOUR HOME TO THIS GROUP. To potential guests: We don’t have the energy to accommodate those who effort to write poor or false reviews on our property to try and blackmail us into refunding your trip. If you are high-strung or petty and like to have a bad time when you go on vacation then please do not rent our home. Mahalo. There isn’t enough room to address line by line to this review so we’ve posted as much as the space would allow. If you need more information feel free to call us... 1. The tub in our lower level had a leak and because we weren’t able to have a plumber fix the problem in time we refunded a portion of the reservation back to the guest. This room has an outdoor shower off the bedroom in its own private courtyard, in addition to the tub, so as unfortunate as this was, this area would have serviced the guests hygienic needs as a “full bathroom” had they allowed it. 2. We’ve regularly serviced our cooktop with the salt air sometimes corroding the elements. And if a problem arises we take care of it. This is the first we’re hearing of this current issue and the guest could have let us know beforehand. 3. Our washer must’ve been less than 2 yrs old and the control panel had glitched during our last clean. We needed to arrange someone to have a look and the guest through a fit about it. What seemed like a standard procedure became an overbearing week of drama. We ended up having to expedite delivery of a brand new washer despite the fact our current washer was working. We have it as a second set now. 4. Our house is treated 1-2x/year to keep pests away. The guest was sending us text messages at 11:00 at night about having ants when food was left exposed in the pantry. If food is left out or you’re sloppy in the kitchen you’ll likely see bugs. 5. Every bedroom has a door if you know how to use it. Perhaps the giant barn door at the lower level was to
