Situated above the Dordogne river and overlooking the French countryside stands Le Presbytère (a former 17th Century Presbytery).

Four bedrooms have been furnished in the utmost taste to create a feeling of well-being and peace. One of which is a suite with hints of past feuds and two others under timber beams possess charm and tranquility. The subtle combination of medieval furniture and soft furnishings inspired by the Orient make for a unique and warm atmosphere.

Leading from a charming terrace is a large dining room complete with a magnificent stone fireplace. The west wing of this floor houses a bedroom with an ensuite bathroom. There is also a modern and very well equipped kitchen.

The wooden staircase leads to a mezzanine floor from which you access two adorable attic bedrooms, complete with original and restored bathrooms and fitting attractively under the old oak beams.

A master bedroom with luxurious bathroom is to be found on the same level as the garden. Here there is also the summer kitchen which makes catering for outside dining under the covered area poolside a dream. Particular attention has been paid to its fittings, allowing professional chefs to give full expression to their culinary talents.

The three floors of Le Presbytère are equipped with cloakrooms.

The pretty paved court yard, incorporating a fountain leads to the pool area with garden furniture, parasols, barbecue and electric plancha, the magnificent garden and the private detached 17th Century chapel (70m2). The chapel is now used as a non-religious multifunctional space which is heated/air-conditioned and has a "HK Lucas Performer" music system (compatible with media devices). It is furnished as an elegant dining space with dining table and chairs. Ideal for a blessing, exquisite dining room, private concert and dancing etc. Capacity : Approximately x30 seated or x60 standing guests.

The gardens and terrace surrounding the pool offer sublime views of the valley and the neighbouring Château de Fénelon.

About Caroline ROUGIE

My name is Caroline Rougié and I am a graduate of the L'École Hôtelière of Lausanne in Switzerland. I earned my stripes whilst working for several years within a luxury Parisien hotel. Today I am thrilled, alongside my assistant Marianne to be able to welcome an international clientele wishing to stay in my very special family home.

Why Caroline ROUGIE chose Sainte-Mondane

On the 1st of June 1970, my grand-father Jean Rougié (founder of the Rougié factory renowned worldwide for its Foie Gras) acquired the Presbytery at auction and in 2004 it then became my father’s. My parents then embarked upon an extensive major renovation project that was to last two years.

The date of construction for the Presbytery remains uncertain, however archives do imply that the construction could be as early as the 17th century. Records show that in 1750 the Presbytery was inhabited by Jean Bourdet, the priest of Calviac.

Certain authorities have suggested that the detached Chapel could have been built in the Roman period.

Absolutely stunning property - amazing vacation!

We had an incredible vacation - we stayed at Le Presbytere with 2 families in July....the property is magical.

The surroundings are magnificent with amazing views, including a castle. The house is majestic and feels incredibly homey and comfortable. Each room is well appointed with sheets, blankets and plenty of towels in the bathrooms.

The pool is dreamy and lovely place to hang out at all day or come back to after a day of activities. The kitchens are excellent and you can request someone to cook for you (amazing!) or you have everything you need to cook yourself.

One of the best parts of the house is the service...every question you ask, anything you need, etc is all taken care of in an incredibly professional and helpful way. Marianne was unbelievable in helping us plan our activities and answering the many questions we had about the area.

We will return this lovely place...truly amazing!

Peaceful Paradise

If you are looking for relaxation, peace and contentment THIS is where you want to be. Away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, you find your own paradise just waiting for you! The beauty of Le Presbytere is only enhanced by the breathtaking view of the French countryside. And its history is fascinating and awe inspiring. THANK YOU to to our host and ALL who helped to make our stay, although much too short, a completely unforgettable and memorable experience. A week that will forever be etched in our minds and hearts!

It was our first time in France and we could not had imagined staying in a more beautiful place. The manicured landscape of property and surrounding areas were amazing. Enjoyed the visits to surrounding villages and castles. It was very educational. Caroline and staff were very accommodating and attentive. Would recommend this property to anyone wanting to relax and enjoy the beautiful countryside that Perigord has to offer.

Dordogne of Desire

This is my third visit and all I can think of while I'm here at La Presbytere is when can I come back? The house is beautifully decorated and luxurious feeling, from the comfort of the sofas to the beds, sheets and luxurious soaps and personal products. The staff couldn't be more pleasant or accommodating. They are generous with information, happy to make reservations, shop, or take care of your needs. Just about everything you need or might want to do is within an hour or so, but we have a hard time leaving the beautiful house. I do most of the cooking for our group, and there are two well appointed kitchens. The local markets are incredible and full of local produce in season. (Of course foie gras and duck are always in season.) We like to light a fire in the giant fireplace in the living room, pour a glass of local Cahor and enjoy the beautiful place.

Paradise in the Perigord!

This was our 2nd stay at the Presbytere and it was AMAZING! The house is perfectly appointed and the view is breathtaking. From the sheets to the soaps to the tools in the two kitchens no detail has been overlooked. Caroline (the owner) and her staff are incredibly helpful and so easy to work with. There is much to do around the area and we also enjoy just staying around the house and doing nothing as well. Cannot recommend this property enough. Don't hesitate to book! (NB: its funny that the other reviewer stayed here twice also - we are not the same group)

Perfection in the Perigord

This was our second stay at Le Presbytere and it was as good or better than the first. The owner (Ms. Caroline Rougie) has done a fabulous job of restoring and updating this 17th century home. While the interior spaces are beautiful and comfortable (two modern kitchens, spa-like baths, fireplaces, high quality bedding and linens), the outdoor areas are where you will most likely spend most of your time. After you spend a few days lounging by the pool, dining under the trellis and the viewing the French countryside from your hilltop perch, you will understand why the French themselves come here for holiday.

And when you do wish to venture out, Ms. Marianne Selley (Caroline's assistant) can arrange tours, make reservations at the best restaurants and give you all the insiders advice you need to make you feel like this is truly your home away from home.

I have stayed in a number of places in the French countryside and this is the best of the best.
