This is a very special place! Located about 2 hours from Phoenix in the midst of the world's largest stand of towering Ponderosa Pines. Temperatures are 30-50 degrees cooler than Phoenix.
This one of a kind chalet style cabin has been beautifully remodeled with T&G knotty pine walls, beautiful juniper logs, fully equipped kitchen including custom knotty hickory cabinets, chiseled edge granite countertops and stainless steel appliances. Large great room/kitchen combination with dramatic 25' window wall, beamed ceilings and several trophy big game mounts.
Great for getting together with a few friends or family members.
Two remodeled bedrooms with very comfortable queen beds downstairs. Both have large sliding glass doors overlooking the National Forest.
Large loft with a queen bed, 2 twin beds and a futon and a 8' slider to a balcony with views of the forest.
Lots of room to park your trailer or RV.
Ride your horse or ATV right from the property.
Bring your sweatshirt to enjoy your morning wake up on the patio or deck while listening to the sounds of nature. You'll see squirrels, blue jays, robbins and an occasional cardinal. Relax in the cool country and take in the fresh mountain air. It is so invigorating to your mind, body and soul! The stress wil melt away. You will be rejuvinated and ready to tackle your next challenge by the time you leave. Be sure to have a hanky ready because you just might get a little misty when its time to go! But have no worries because there can always be a 'next time' and there surely will. Thanks for visiting and come again soon.

Forest Lakes is one of the highest points on the rim at an elevation of 7600 ft. This lends itself to cool summer days with an average temperature of 75-80 degrees. The evenings cool down even more for great cool mountain air sleeping. It is such an easy drive from Phoenix, most of the highway has been expanded to be a divided 4 lane highway. Take AZ260 East out of Payson approx 35 miles. From most parts of the valley less than 2 hours door to door. All the mountain activities and benefits with a much shorter drive to get there. Forest Lakes is a small community of 1 acre cabin sites so you can enjoy your own guests, not be right on top of your neighbors!
Peace, serenity and Cool Weather!
My husband and I , our daughter and her husband, and their 5 and 6 year old children and our pet lab just had the best time while staying in this beautiful cabin in Forest Lakes. The house sits on a dead end street while backing up to the National Forest Service Land, so there is lots of privacy and peace and quiet. There is a huge patio out front for BBQing or just setting outside enjoying the pine trees with their cool breeze and fresh scent . Inside the accommodations are well thought out and welcoming . We used the fireplace as the nights had become chilly and there was plenty of firewood stacked nearby . The kitchen is well stocked and extremely user friendly . All of the beds were extra comfortable . Everything about our stay was more than expected . We would highly recommend renting this cabin and will do so ourselves in the future.
Would recommend this cabin and looking forward to coming back. Felt like home.
Picture's don't do it justice!
Firstly, the owners Rhonda and Charlie are extremely easy to work with, very friendly and accommodating and have an amazing cabin. We left Scottsdale after work on Friday and were at the cabin in about 2 hours flat - a great, quick getaway. We arrived, walked into the cabin and never looked back. The cabin is exactly that - a great cabin. It has great decor, from pictures from the old west days to recent family pictures. Two nice bedrooms with comfortable beds, a huge loft upstairs with multiple beds and a great, open floorplan. They have everything broken down for you in an easy welcome book, and we turned on the thermostat, started a fire and were great. We relaxed, fired up their very nice propane BBQ on the patio and had a great dinner the first night. All appliances and counters tops are new looking and in great condition - nicer than my home! Living room has a huge, comfortable sectional couch and we sat there and played games the entire night both nights. The next day was a relaxing day - we enjoyed a fire all morning and in the early afternoon took a walk through the 15 miles of national forest behind their cabin! They're at the end of the road, so no one behind them, only a couple cabins across the road and one cabin to the left... everything else is wilderness!
All in all, a great cabin. We spent our entire time there talking about the next time we're coming back - and there will be more times! Don't pass this up, you'll regret it!
We had a really good time in this amazing place ! The cabin is very beautiful , clean and has all the amenities you need ! We enjoyed listening to the birds and seeing the squirrels from the patio ! This cabin is located in such a great place, surrounded by tall trees ! The owners are nice to work with and very accommodating ! We will recommend this cabin to our friends and family !
We hope to be back soon , we fell in love with this cabin !
We loved staying at this cabin! It was close enough to Phoenix for family members to visit for just a day. Sitting out on the patio and enjoying the cool pines was a favorite activity. We enjoyed fishing at Woods Canyon as well as Willow Springs and Jeeping the many back roads on the rim. The Walters cabin is our first choice when vacationing on the rim.
We stayed at the cabin over a weekend, and enjoyed it very much. Cabin definitely doesn't feel like a rental - more like your own home. Location couldn't be more perfect. We will definitely be back again. If you are planning a trip to Forest Lakes, definitely stay here.
