What a wonderful find!
Driving down through France, we spent a week in the Loire Valley and a week in the Perigord Vert before arriving at Matthew and Susie's wonderful property in the Perigord Noir. We decided this was our favourite of the areas we stayed in, not only is the scenery so beautiful but there are numerous places of interest and activities to enjoy in the area. There was a bottle of wine waiting for us - a thoughtful touch from Matthew and Susie who have done a fantastic job of converting their barn into a spacious, comfortable, tastefully furnished, extremely well equipped gite - a real home from home. We liked being close to the main tourist sites of the Dordogne but far enough removed to enjoy relaxing in the garden, enjoying the wonderful view and tranquility. We also appreciated having a shop and a restaurant within walking distance. For us this was the perfect choice of location to explore the Perigord Noir. Matthew and Susie couldn't have been more helpful and hospitable throughout our stay and always respected our privacy. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there and would have loved to have stayed longer.

So tranquil yet close to amenities and sights!
Our stay at Matthew and Susie's gite was pure delight. The accommodation is a beautifully converted "barn" with lovely, spacious living spaces, comfortable bedrooms and bathrooms, very well equipped kitchen and all the comforts of home. The peaceful location, the resounding quiet, the warm, clean, fragrant summer air and the dark night-sky, covered with stars one normally never sees, conspire to make one wish to stay forever. The incredible thing is that you can have this quality of peace and quiet and still be only 20 minutes away from the Dordogne River with its châteaux, its breath-taking gardens, the scenic boat rides etc. Restaurants are close-by as are speciality shops (for the truffle and fois-gras lovers) and other shops for day to day things. Sarlat, a medieval town nearby, is very well preserved and is "one of the towns most representative of 14th century France". The centre of the old town is a feast for the eyes and easy on the legs with many places to sit, have a coffee or cold drink, while absorbing the atmosphere. Belvès, also nearby, has been designated as one of the prettiest towns in France. In fact, there is so much to see that we felt cheated at not having had enough time to just enjoy staying at "home", at the gite. Matthew and Susie are very warm, friendly and ready to help with every request. The photo album showing their labours, in converting a derelict property into the lovely abode it is now, is fascinating and makes one appreciate the result even more. Sitting outside on our last evening, glass of wine in hand, seeing the potted red geranium against the rich green of the meadow touched by the late afternoon sun, had us logging onto the Internet in a desperate attempt to reschedule our flights home. Not possible, alas.... but no matter because we will try our hardest to return as soon as possible.

Beautiful barn in a perfect location
We stayed here with our 3 young children for 2 weeks last summer and had a fantastic holiday. The barn is so well equipped and sympathetically restored with great attention to detail. It is perfectly located in a rural and peaceful valley with wonderful views, yet it is only a short drive to all the major sights. We especially loved the overground pool and the spacious grounds for the children to run around in. Matthew and Susie were great hosts, providing us with a bit of local knowledge and advice and delicious peaches from the garden! The local restaurant serves the best moules frites for miles around and the night markets at close by Bouzic and St Pompont were hard to beat as well. We will be back!

Beautiful converted barn in idyllic spot
We can't thank Matthew & Susie enough for a fantastic week in their beautiful, tasteful & sympathetically restored barn. The bedrooms and bathrooms are all decorated to a high standard and we felt relaxed and home from home, Our two teenaged boys aged 19 & 15 loved chilling out with the wi-fi, relaxing on the sunloungers and cooling down in the dip pool. We enjoyed eating the local food at the various evening markets and also the festivities & fireworks at the nearby village of Daglan. There is plenty to do & see from visiting castles to canoeing on the river. It was a great holiday for everyone as Susie & Matthew have thought of everything so all we needed to do was relax and unwind.
