About Akiko H
We're an international couple sharing our time between Nice in France, Kyoto in Japan, and traveling around the world. HomeAway's Moments Makers features us in a video: https://blog.homeaway.asia/moment-makers-kyoto-japan/ We both fell in love with Kyoto and never have enough time to visit its numerous temples and shrines, gardens and secret sites. There is always something going on in this amazing city and after so much time spent here, we still enjoy discovering things. We hope to be able to share our enthusiasm and our love for this wonderful city with our guests.

We just loved our stay in Gojozaka Samurai Machiya, the house was fantastic in that it was a true Japanese house with beautiful decor, it was super clean and we had everything we could want for a pleasant stay in Kyoto. There were various eating places and convenience stores just a short walk away. The staff at the office were extremely polite and very helpful and accomodating to our needs, in short, we just loved the house, the location and the overall Japanese experience and would highly recommend this place!! Thank you very much Akiko, you are the best! We will be back.

Those is a beautiful traditional style house. It is easy walking distance to Kiyozuma Dera shrine and many nice restaurants. I think that 10 people is the absolute maximum and it would probably be more comfortable for 8, or some children rather than all adults. Other than that, it was just as billed and the host was very responsive. Overall, a great stay!

This is our first time renting VRBO oversea. I was a bit worried which turned out to be totally unnecessary. The host answered all my questions prior arrival blazingly fast. After arrival all instructions were clear and communication was good. The house itself just look like the picture. The living/dining room floor is heated, very comfortable in winter. The house gives us a some idea how actual Japanese lives and that is exactly what we were after. We are amazed by how little details make you feel so much better. The location of the house is convinient. Highly recommended. The stairway goes upstairs is steep, not suitable for old people but there is a bedroom downstairs so i think for most families it is just ok. We really loved it and highly recommend it.

Perfect place to stay in Kyoto for a family. The accommodations were great and the communication with host was fantastic. The place is walking distance to several sites and a short cab ride for others. Would stay here again.

Words simply cannot describe just how amazing this property and the hosts were. Not only are they super responsive, they are always willing to help out and go the extra mile. The property itself is tucked into a quiet corner of a residential area, which despite the serenity, was easily accessible to the bus, train and attractions. The machiya is well-maintained to give travellers a true taste of Japanese homes, with the added bonus of being equipped with all the facilities a traveller will need! Thank you Akiko and Patrick! We love you! ❤

Our family enjoyed our stay at Gojozaka Samurai Machiya. Comfortably enough from the Kyoto station to get a nice feel for a quiet residential area with a lot of history. Walking distance to many shrines.
We were able to walk to the Kyoto station for exercise (about 25 min) but we're also able to hail taxis near the house then we had luggage.
The house has had a lot of love, care, and attention put into its remodeling, and the feel of old machiyas has been well integrated in the work. We would love to stay again the next time we are in Kyoto!
