A beautiful home in a stunning, secluded location. This recently refurbished detached property is nestled in the hills rising up from the coast in the exclusive region of Nadadouro in Foz Do Arelho on Portugal’s Silver Coast with magnificent views of Obidos Lagoon and the Atlantic Ocean. The gentle roar of the distant breaking waves provides a natural accompaniment to evening meals on the terrace. This lovely 5-bedroom villa provides the perfect base from which to relax, explore Portugal’s splendid silver coast, partake in a range of exhilarating water-sport activities or play a round of golf on some of the most exciting and new developments in Europe. The villa and surrounding area is perfect for families or groups of friends looking for a luxurious holiday at any time of year.
Surfing: The beaches along the Silver Coast provide some of the best surfing conditions in the world and the owner can arrange tailor made surfing trips with tuition and equipment, if required.
Watersports: The Villa lies 500 m from the local sailing club which can provide equipment and lessons for kite surfing, sailing, windsurfing, wake boarding and canoeing.
Families: The beaches are suitable for small children and families because not all face the Atlantic ocean. In Foz Do Arelho, there is a free children's club on the beach in July and August.
Myself and my wife live in Edinburgh with 2 small boys aged 9 and 7. We bought our home in Foz Do Arelho because it was close to some breathtaking beaches, there are range of activities for the kids to do, it is less commercialised than the Algarve and the house was in a fantastic location. We spend 3 or 4 weeks at the villa every year and enjoy it more and more. The boys are now accomplished surfers
David Edwin purchased this villa in 2008
The views are fantastic and it is in a private location
Spacious, private pool, outside dining, views
Well maintained property perfect for our 'all ages 'holiday - grandparents daughters and their families ages ranging 11- 75.good cooking facilities ,dishwasher and barbecue also dishwasher and washing machine which were in constant use.Lots of eating places at reasonable prices nearby.Pool was great after busy day at beach whist grandparents relaxed on the wonderful loungers before a game of table tennis in the basement .all in all had wonderful relaxing time in this still underdeveloped area.
This is a nice villa with plenty of space, reasonably well equipped although some of the furniture indoors is a little tired. Great barbecue area. The views across the lagoon are spectacular and we spent many relaxing hours by the pool or on the huge veranda. Lots to do in the area and lovely swimming in the lagoon at the beach down in Foz. The villa is in a residential area up the hill from the lagoon - the location shown on the map on the Homeaway website does not match where the villa actually is, and there are no restaurants or bars within walking distance. Very peaceful holiday though.
Overall we enjoyed our holiday. The house was good in most aspects, but there was a lack of attention to detail. The pool is small and quite shallow compared to the impression given by the photos. It is not really suitable for anything other than a dip and messing around in.
We were disappointed at the lack of information provided at the house. Most places have a folder with recommendations of restaurants and places to go. This place only had tourist information leaflets. We would have ended up missing some places if it hadn't been for the instructor from the surf school and checking out the web sites of other local holiday homes that had more information about place to go and things to do.
It was also unclear as to who managed the house and who to contact if something went wrong. The woman we were given the details of seemed to think she was only to be contacted during standard working hours otherwise there was a charge. The owner said this wasn't true. Thankfully there was no reason to contact anyone, so we never found out. However, there were some problems with the house when we arrived - outdoor BBQ was dirty, washing line was broken (had to use a rickety clothes horse and buy our own pegs), filter cover at bottom of pool was broken and safe was locked and unusable. We reported these to the owner and woman, but none were fixed whilst we were there. I was told I could buy pegs and I would be reimbursed, but there seemed little point in claiming for a couple of Euros.
We had no problems with broken sun loungers or the tennis table equipment (was this because we were there early in the season? - though that should make no difference as you pay the same regardless of whether it is July or August). However, there are only 8 dining chairs, so not enough for the 10 people the house sleeps. Plus the fridge was too small for us (5 adults). Not enough room for drinks and food unless you were always eating out and just wanted to keep a small supply.
The area around the house is pleasant and the view from the balcony is great for sitting out and having a drink in the evening. It is too far to walk to restaurants etc., so you need to drive. We hired bikes, but it is quite hilly so you need to be reasonably fit. Foz is a nice place with some decent restaurants along the beach and one or two in the town. We would highly recommend the Surfing School as they obviously love what they do and are very helpful.
The villa is nice and has enough space for one or two families. It was clean, has a nice athmosphere and also the pool was in a very good condition. We actually missed some chairs or sun lounger at the pool and the balkony. We actually found some, but it seemed, that they were in a very "used" condition. The fittings in the bathroom and showers could also be updated to match the high standard of the whole villa. The location is fine and there is a nice view to the laguna and the atlantic.
We would book the villa again and we can strongly recommend it for having a nice stay in Foz do Arelho. If the mentioned details would have been fixed, we'd rated the villa with five stars.
I recently stayed at this villa with a group of friends. The accommodation is spacious, well-appointed with comfortable furnishings, and has a superb outdoor area with stunning views over the lagoon, especially from the upstairs balcony. The property is nestled amongst the trees on a hillside and felt quite secluded. The pool is a decent size and was the perfect way to cool off after lounging in the sunshine. In the evenings, when the sun went down, we would often fire up the BBQ and enjoy some of the local food and wine al fresco on the terrace. It was the ideal environment to socialise.
The villa is a short drive away from Caldas da Rainha, which is a medium sized city - we visited most days to pick up supplies. There are several super markets there with some familiar ones like Lidl and Aldi. The wine in Portugal is very good and so cheap compared to UK prices. You can buy a nice bottle for less than 3 Euros. Needless to say, we were well stocked up for the holiday.
Part of the reason we chose this particular villa was because it is close to Peniche and Nazare - two of Europe’s top surf spots. They are about 30 mins away in opposite directions. We went to Baleal beach, near Peniche, several times to surf and had an awesome time there. It has a few beach bars on the Sand where you can buy food and drink, and also hire shops to rent surf equipment.
Foz do Arelho itself is a picturesque seaside village, which has a massive golden sandy beach with a good selection of restaurants and bars, some of which are along the waterfront. Eating out was a real pleasure for us. The food was of a high standard and the service was excellent. Most Portuguese people we met were very helpful and with few exceptions spoke very good English. We ate in several different restaurants over the holiday and the bill for a 3 course meal with wine was generally around 20 Euros each - our money seemed to go a long way.
Overall the villa exceeded our expectations; it had everything we needed and was the perfect base for our stay. We'll definitely come back to Portugal.
I should say at the outset that we loved the location which was off the beaten tourist track around 1 hour north of Lisbon. The local beaches around Foz do Arelho are very accessible with a good selection of beachside cafes for lunch or dinner offering great local seafood dishes. Added to that is the proximity to a local indoor go-karting track kept the kids happy - the staff there were fantastic.
Unfortunately, we were somewhat underwhelmed by the facilities on offer at the villa. The kitchen and dining space was OK although several light fittings / lamps throughout the villa were not working. Sadly this included the pool lights (as illustrated in the photos). For a villa that can sleep up to 10 guests, the fact that there was only 1 sun lounger in which you could sit and read a book meant that we probably did not spend as much time poolside as we had hoped.
The usual Portugese ant infestation was expected - but this was soon countered with the liberal application of some Dum-Dum insect spray from the local supermarket.
In summary, this is a good-sized villa in need of updating. With the addition of more better/newer facilities it would surely become a firm favourite.
This luxurious 5 bedroom villa is an ideal base to explore the stunning natural beauty of the Silver Coast with its wonderful beaches, rich heritage and golfing resorts. The climate is perfect with dry winters (17 degrees) and warm summers (27 degrees) with cooling Atlantic breezes making the evenings very pleasant. There are many wonderful places to visit such as the chic cafes and surf culture in Foz Do Arelho, the vibrant night life, bullring and water park in Nazare, the fishing port and wonderful seafood restaurants in Peniche, the medieval town of Obidos and many golfing resorts such as Praia D'El Rey.
Golf: The villa is located within 30 minutes drive of at least 5 world class golf courses and tailor made golfing holidays can be arranged through the owner.
